Beeswax works fine for me. After dying edge, dampening and rubbing down with canvas, I rub a beeswax cake along the edge. Then, I run my Foredom (like dremel) with felt pad fast against the beeswax cake mmelting some into the fibre. Then I run the felt pad over the edge. Higher speed is better as it will melt the wax into the edge and polish. Even when I use edgekote, I still apply the bbeeswax as a final step. There are some great edges and guidance on this site and several different ways to get good edges. Regis

Would someone give me some examples of roller post machines to read-up on. A year or so ago I read that "might" be the best for detailed work. I'm interested in a smooth machine for assembly and decorative stitching on light-medium leather for bags and other small things (2-3 layers of 2-6oz or up to perhaps 3/8"). I'd appreciate any info or experience of the roller post machine vs flatbed for this use. I have a Consew portable with monster wheel which will easily sew the thickness but, I want smoother machine with servo motor for more control for decorative stitching. Thanks, Regis

Brad, If you get the Sailrite or similar clone for leather, you will definately need their Monster Wheel for leather. I have the Consew clone with the monster wheel and it is satisfactory starter machine (with correct needles and feet). Regis

It is a dilemma if you want both on the "Do Not Call" list and want customers to call. You need to get that business line up & running. Then retrace your registrations and change the number. You'll probably still get some calls. And yes, card services and others have many many sales folk that will be calling you. I get them on a business that I closed 3 years ago but, stll have the number. Regis

Gluing to Latigo
Regis replied to McJeep's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
Might I ask what part is latigo? Are you making the the tank panel using latigo? regis -
Congradulations ClayB You've taught me so much online I feel I may need to pay for past lessons. 1675 miles,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, but, I gotta TRY, somehow! Regis

Yes, you still must use a mallet BUT, the tool is straight (perpendicular to gromet). This is just a small hand tool and I would not think suitable to use in some form of press. Pull it out of drawer, set a few snaps perfectly straight, and put back in drawer. You can even look to see if you hit it hard enough and hit again, if necessary, without alignment problems. Works fine for me. Regis

Welcome. Nice design/layout and nice work. Regis

I received my Osborn Line 24 snap setter today. Here is link Snap Setter I've had mixed results setting snaps but, NO more crooked or tilted snaps on my items. This $25 bucks was well spent. And I'll probably never wear it out Regis

Yes, they were also in Uzbekistan. I must have not understood correctly where the work was being done. I remember them talking about Almaty in Kazakhstan as one of their stops for a couple days. Regis

Welcome. I have some friends that visited Kazakhstan including Almaty a couple years ago. One of them told me about the amazing carving on doors that were being made. Again, welcome and your tooling is very good. Regis

Here is a link to the OTB page. Snapper Rivets What kind of setting tool do you use? Thanks, Regis
-
OTB catalog page 33 has "Snapper Rivets" (3 kinds). How are these set? What kind of tool do you use to set them? Would someone enlighten me? Thanks, Regis

Kate, Johanna, Looks GREAT to me. Ads on top and right side do not interfere with focusing on content. Still, I've gone to 2 of the advertisers to recently order. Internet has improved and paper magazines have (for 10+ years) been adding more and more and more ads to pay the bills. It's gotten to the point that it is hard to find articles in between ads in magazines. my 2c & I appreciate site just like it is. Regis

Six Months in the Woods!
Regis replied to Ludite's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I like the style, "secure". Do you have a liner to protect the bolt from the back of the snap? I use a bolt holster at benchrest matches. When the gun is not on the bench ponted down range, bolt must be out of gun. Best place is in bolt holster. -
Tom, Looks good. I like the light beveling around the letters. Do you have pockets inside or just place for Bible cover to slide into? Regis

Looks like you did pretty good to me. Playing with number of colors & passes should get you both a cutting drawing and a tooling reference image. Inkscape is a good tool, especially because it is free. A lot of individual sign maker use it to cleanup graphics. Trace in CorelDraw X3 is also good and I think a little easier to use but expensive. Vector Magic has a new "background remover" that looks interesting but, also expensive.

Working with one's hands in contemporary society
Regis replied to esantoro's topic in All About Us and Off Topic
Very interesting. The loss/reduction of shop classes in schools will have very longterm affects on our nation. I very much enjoyed reading is and glad you posted it here. Spent a long time in the cubes myself. Thank you regis -
Fine idea. Next time you remove the set screw, pour thin superglue down the threads and let it dry. Your threads will last a good bit longer.

Looks great Kevin. Beaches on the gulf are jammed this weekend. Is it for display or are you going to start selling through the gallery? Is it in Panama City proper or over at the beach? Seaside is where much of the highend stuff goes well if it is there. Enjoy the weekend. Regis

Thanks Art. I did get hold of local freight company that would come to my house, crate & ship. One person was interested so I held off of ebay but, he PM'd me Saturday and said some things had come up and he could not buy at this time. Regis
-
Thanks for looking but, I guess I'll have to go the CraigsList and Ebay route with the complications of crating/shipping. Was willing to deal good for someone picking up but,,,,,I guess most here (within several hours drive) already have machine. The leather & thread sould nearly offset the shipping cost though. I'll get pictures ready and post later this week at the online places. Thanks, Regis

I should add. There is "at least" a few hundred $$'s in thread, needles (all from Artisan), and leather. Regis
-
Unfortunately, I have to give up my Artisan 3000 and all the associated needles, thread, and heavy leather that I have. It is like new and I have not even dulled the 1st needle yet. I purchased it 1 1/2 years ago but, only made about a dozen holsters. Machine works perfect and if you pick up, I'll show you how to run it (if you want). I'm not able to pack it but could help with the arrangements (head should be removed from stand for shipping-- all much too heavy for me now). It might be much easier if you could pick it all up in van or truck. I'm in Pensacola, Fl near the Alabama/Florida line. 5 hours from Atlanta, 6 hours from Nashville, and 3 hours from New Orleans. I'll answer questions or send pictures if you want (but, looks exactly like new in catalog). If interested, PM or email me and I'll give you my phone number (or give me yours & I'll call). $1700 FOB my house. Thank you, Regis
