Just finished this scabbard for Alan Folts new sword. The sword is 24" of 440C with a carbon fiber handle.I did the scabbard in an open front design with the inlay being the same carbon fiber used on the handle.Dave

If your were going to do alot of them,I would suggest getting ahold of your local steel supplier or Fabrication shop. For a small amount just about any Lowes,Home depot, Hardware should have some thin sheet metal.Look for about 24 guage. You may also want to check the legality of using steel in a holster with the organization doing the shoot. Some of the more PC organizations don't like such modern adaptations.Dave

Just finished this one up for my exotic dealer, The "Ostrich Market", to show off some of the Alligator products. This sheath was done for my friend and fellow knifemaker Alan Folts, for his beautiful dagger with carved Mother of Pearl handle. The sheath is inlayed with lizard and a Black Tiger's eye stone.Dave

Frontier Indian Sheath
DCKNIVES replied to DCKNIVES's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Sorry for the late response Jim.No real secret to cutting fringe like that, I just took a big piece of braintan and cut approx. 1/8"-3/16" strips with my shears, trim down into 8" long pieces and attach while each pice while sewing it up.There are about 150 pieces on that sheath.Dave -

The Stohlman book"How to make holsters" has one in that style. If you go to CAScity (The Leather Shop) and do a search on "Wild Bunch" holsters, you'll find a gold mine. The "Wild Bunch" is a new shooting group in the CAS , and is based on the movie of the same name.Shooters must dress like characters in the movie and one of the guns is a 1911.Just for thought, the typical trigger guard cutout you see on Western style holsters is still used sometimes on the 1911's, and while that could present a safety issue on everyday carry, in CAS the guns MUST be unloaded until you are at the line so no walking around cocked and locked with an exposed trigger.Dave
