  1. Refurb, by a mfgr. usually means whatever was wrong has most likely been fixed. Refurb from a private entity could mean anything. Everything in a computer can be replaced usually plug and play nowadays. Fairly simple, but the companies don't want the public to know how easy it really is. I ain't all that smart, but have built 2 desktops from scratch that have worked great for a long time. If it is a name brand that has a good rep., and the price is good, you should not have a problem. It may be my luck, but as far as warranties go, everything I have owned always breaks the day after the warranty expires!
  2. might look a mess but it has been a lot worse, but I seem to know where everything is most of the time.
  3. I remade my workbench area the other day and needed to get the juices flowing in the leather direction so I put this together yesterday and finished it with Olive oil this morning. It was a fun exercise and my workbench performed it's duty without any bounce or flex.

    steampunk mask

Really great work as usual, forgive my ignorance but " What in the heck is a steampunk and why is there a movement?" Looks like something from the mad maxx or waterworld movie set to me.
  5. Very nice wallet, I am sure he will get a thrill out of it. You are right about dementia, I feel for you and your family it can be real tough to deal with.
  6. Goth Backpacking paraphernalia? verrrry interesting but creepy.
  7. Just for Tom Madden and the thanksgiving football games I think. Maybe the Superbowl too.
  8. Ed, check out craigs list provo/orem utah, there is a delta mini lathe and custom cabinet listed today for about 275. It looks like a great deal, I would imagine a drill press attachment would suffice, but I am sure that deals like the lathe would also come up for sale occasionally in your area.
  9. There was a post, pre-crash I think, from a member that did inlays of flat bottomed stones in bracelets, and a explanation of how to do it. Perhaps someone could resurrect it or if they know who it was, could convince them to repost? If memory serves it was a two layer process with reverse bevel cutouts in the top piece, that held the stones in place, very beautiful items. It would probably work with coins also, and in rough times they could still be spent on more leather stuff.
  10. Made this today, my son asked if I would make it for him as the plastic one that came with the knife was, crap, for the lack of a better word. Turned out alright for only the second one I have made.
  11. I may not look a day over 54 but I feel 202 sometimes. The geezer factor came into play about 10 years ago when the ladies started bestowing the title of sir on me. I could only afford one gift so I gave myself the day off.
  12. WOW bet he could buy a honda as a backup for what that setup is worth. very nice work and the owner will be stylin wherever the road takes him.
  13. Seems Oct 16th the hospitals were busy Happy Birthday to Us!
  14. I do not have a photo but the way I have done them is as the lower one but I skive the facing surfaces of the double layer from just behind the chicago screws to the end making the leather the thickness of a single layer as it bends around the buckle and heads back past the screws. You can carry the stitch all the way to the end of the leather but in that folded over area it would be decorative and add strength to the edges but would not be structural as far as sewing the folded layers together as that is what the screws do. You could sew it all together and do away with the screws also but you would be giving up the ability to change out the buckle and keeper. Make sense? sometimes I ramble and get to wordy LOL.
  15. No fish in the great salt lake, it is about 8-9 times saltier than the ocean. There is a huge market for brine shrimp they harvest for fish food and such. Also buffalo population is pretty large on antelope island. Apparently in the old days the mormons used the island to house the livestock that was tithed to the church. Interesting that there are fresh water springs on the island also.
  16. If Southern California counts as the south (which I think is considered blasphemy by true southerners ). Living in Utah now, no real food traditions, (besides jello something called mormon potatoes and some abomination called fry sauce), that I can tell other than everyone eats at restaurants. Largemouth bass has always been my favorite fish to catch and eat.
  17. Ben, very informative write up. I think everyone could benefit from this info. Judging from the writing style I would guess you are a physical therapist or a ergonomic engineer? Jordan
  18. Filet um, dip um in beer batter, and fry um up.LOL I think yankee in norms' case would be a reference to his new england area upbringing. Damn Yankee's is a great movie especially the part where what lola wants lola gets! Of course you would need to enjoy old musicals.
  19. I have not made or sold to many but 1.50 and 1.75 inch seems to be the most popular. Thicker ones like a double layer are the way to go for holsters as they give support but do not have the obvious look of a holster belt like a wider one would.
  20. you can place the keeper between the chicago screws or sew it between the layers either way will work. Sewing it will be very solid where as sewing it to itself and having it loose between the screws will make it removable.Depends on the buckle also. a full one like a clipcorner sometimes does not need a keeper where as a half one does, if that makes sense.
  21. Mmmmm Bucketmouth Filets tonight!
  22. A taller bench to move your work a little closer to your eyes may help with the neck pain as you would not have to lean your head towards the work so much. I was reading about ergonomics the other day and that was one of the suggestions. Also Surgical rubber tubing on the stamp shaft may help. I have found very frequent coffee breaks cuts down my aches and pains(the hot tub doesn't hurt either)
  23. excellent work and worth every penny he can charge, functional art.
  24. just messin with gimp some what blurry. came out real sharpe when exported to a pdf but would not load. Programs are irritating sometimes either they have to much flexability or not enough.LOL
  25. Copy paste wouldn't work. I was able to take a screenshot and save it. Edited out phone and email.
