  1. A formed doughnut to fill the void or overlap the top down the sides and sew with some type of piping to cover the seam or both maybe? Dunno upolstrey to well heck can't even spell it.
  2. Painted concrete right now but I want to put down rubber or carpet of some kind, I got a cataloge the other day from a company called FLOR they make carpet squares that are stuck to adhesive dots at the corners, if they get messed up they are just washed in the machine or replaced, sounds good so far. They have indoor and outdoor or garage strength stuff also.
  3. Welcome to the wunerful world of scratchbuilt leatherwork! Happens all the time to me, I do get frustrated at times but a cup-o-joe and a short breather helps to clear things up and then I rethink the process with the fresh jolt of caffine.
  4. That would be cool, I guess what I was asking is if the zipper was attached to a leather gusset all the way around or if the zipper tape served as the gusset only far enough for the case to open flat.
  5. A question if I may, Is the design 1 piece of leather folded over with a zipper around the perimeter or is it 3 pieces with a zipper sewn into the 3rd piece around the perimeter? I am trying out some patterns. One is sort of a kidney bean shape with a top, bottom and a strip with a zipper around the butt end so it would not fold all the way open rather you would draw the pistol out of it, and the other would be kind of a rounded triangle shape folded over with a zipper closure most of the way around it that would open almost flat. Also I am thinking of a batting and flannel lining. Any suggestions?
  6. That is a cool case, looks like he won't need to buy another for many many years.
  7. Thank you all for the kind words and tips. It is great to have such an active board to post to. It really helps to get input good or bad for learning process. Well, it's on to the next project, my bible needs a cover and I need to learn to do zippers, so I can make some pistol cases too.
  8. Well I can try to describe what I think happened to me, A combination of the tight turn, foot pressure and the slope caused by the doubled layer of leather seemed to cause a sideways slip of the holster and extended the stitch, also noticed in a couple of instances the advance mechanism seemed to slip or not grab the leather underneath to move it forward and some of the stitches got way to close together. Most of it is operator error on my part and I am sure after much tweaking and practice I will get much better with my machine. Hope this made sense, it hard sometimes to explain without visual aids.
  9. A good mallet to hit stuff with when I screwup :deadhorse:
  10. In the spring I am going to do a farmers market thing again, and try a few other venues, by that time my work should show pretty good improvement. I figured to start at $89.95 and go up from there. The way I see it if a person wants one they will buy it if not, oh well, they can buy a keyfob or zippo case. I am going to take along some tools and stuff so the customers will see some of what it is all about. I read in other threads and elswhere that it is a pretty good sales tool, besides I'm just settin there anyway might as well play. Randy I can hear it now, just like the seinfeld episode " No Soup For You!"....."No Holster For You!"
  11. Looking better on each one, an edger will make a world of difference on the look, just don't edge the areas that are to be sewn together on the backside of the leather or you end up with a funky edge that won't come together and will have to be sanded down to start over. (bet you can guess why I know that) A little less length will definitely eliminate the pucker. Sewing is not easy for me, takes alot of practice and patience. Keep them coming...Jordan
  12. Very nice work. Can you post a closeup of the strap-n-snap area, I need some ideas LOL. Also I notice on mine there is a slight bulge along the front edge, I was thinking of adding something inside during boning to keep it straighter, a small dowel? or a strip of hardwood between the sights? anyway very nice holster..Jordan
  13. Great so far. It might be my browser but the lettering at the top fades into the background and is very difficult to see.
  14. Makes me think about breaking out that 40+ yr old Resistol I have and sprucing it up. Very clever work.
  15. Alot to learn, so little time LOL. I'll just keep on learning as I go. As soon as I can get some spare cash I am investing in the Bianchi DVD. And I need to get out more and visit some shops to look at the holsters out there.
  16. carpet plugs are pretty nifty but I was told that was why someone invented chairs and desks, floor lamps, and the list goes on...and on.....I feel you angst, our carpets have seen better days with 2 kids 4 dogs and lots of beverage challenged adults.
  17. I'm all set, mind is open and ready to soak up all the tidbits I can get.
  18. I finished the P89 holster this am. Except for a clear acrylic. 7/8 wt. leather, Hand sewn with waxed thread, finished with blockout on the basketweave, neetsfoot oil on the inside, ecoflo prarie (sp) tan diluted in half with water, black dye on edges and wet moulded by hand. Turned out ok and I learned alot of details like the need to sew the belt loop on straighter and that I need to make alot more patterns to work out the kinks. Ta-Da
  19. You're a crckup randyc, they make drill presses that will bore it out for ya. And yes numba one never ever forget to make sure that it ain't loaded.
  20. Count me in on the free motorcycle, an Indian Chief would be nice but I would settle for a Scout.... and I would even pay for the seat!
  21. Randy you forgot step 9&1/2......Clean and put away the weapon. Heheheheh. Jordan
  22. Welcome, the more the merrier, plus we get to see lots of photos
  23. Thanks, I don't have the cash to get a stamp made yet so I just did a quick fix with a tandy stamp and letters, better to have some identifier so when it shows up on antique roadshow in a hunderd years it will be traceable to the greatest holstermaker that ever was! Gufaw
  24. Wowzer's, fit for inspector gadget. LOL Very inventive.
