  1. Howdy to all!! I'm pretty excited I got the Pfaff picked up and can't wait to use it. The seller couldn't find the manual so I'm trying to track one down on the net. Meanwhile I have a few questions( go figure) What I'm wanting to start out sewing is some hair on stuff. The question is what size of thread should a fella use for that and what size of thread should I use for headstalls (3/16th to 1/4"thick) not sure of ounces. I reckon that when I order the thread they can tell me what size needles I need. Next question is it came with some feet can someone tell me what they are used for and will they work for what I want to do. Next question on top of the machine there are holes with red around them I reckon those get oil but how much oil and how often. And do ya have to use Pfaff oil and grease or will singer or other brands work. More questions there is a thingymbob on the side of the machine that looks like ya hook a air source to what is it and do ya have to use it. The foot looks like it lift up about 3/4" so will it so that much. This thing hasn't been ran in a year or a little better is there some stuff I need to do before I run the heck out of it (couple hrs aweek). Sorry for all the questions but this thing runs scary fast. So I want to make sure I do what I need to do so I don't break it or hurt myself!! Thanks for all the help that can be offered in helping me learn this machine. I'll have to add more pics. Mike
  2. GypsyWind I think those look pretty cool. I would like to see the yarn gone and maybe roo or rawhide used in it's place. Ya could lace it the way ya have it or do some sort of edge braid. Just my .02cents And Welome to a great site. Mike

Rawhider those look nice. Thanks for taking the time on the tut. Mike
  4. Hilly I reckon that depends on long you've been married!!! Mike
  5. While my job as a fireman and my wifes as a nurse we really haven't felt the effects of the recession. Both our jobs are pretty dang secure. People always getting hurt and burning stuff down. But I've definitely started spending less on stuff myself. So I'm sure others have as well. While I don't do leather work for a living and don't really try to sell stuff yet. I know there's less money out there for people to spend on custom made goods so I wish everybody out there that does this for a living the best of luck! Mike
  6. Thanks Greg!! That takes a load off of my mind. I hate buying stuff I know nothing about. I guess thats how most women feel taking something to the garage. But I guess there's only one to learn and thats to jump in and learn. And I'm sure I'll have more ?s in the future. Thanks again Mike
  7. Sorry but another ? The pfaff 1245 I'm looking at is grey and all the new ones I see advertised are white. The seller told me he thought his dad bought this machine 10-15 years ago. Does the color of this machine tell anybody anything? What year did they change colors? I'm sorry for all the ?'s but I would like to know all I can about this machine. Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks Mike
  8. Johanna I agree with hidepounder time for a new one! Only problem is I cant carve or sew yet!!! But I can braid a little bit. So if ya get someone to build ya a new purse I would be more than happy to braid the shoulder strap or any handles to your specs as a small token of my appreciation for this site. Mike
  9. I live out in the country but the the small town I vote in had no lines at all. It was so slow I had my to daughters with me and was able to go over the candidates and explain some of the process to them. I sure do like small towns. I had my choice of pen and paper or electronic voting. I chose the electronic. Mike
  10. Bree That is very true and I've been helped a lot. I just meant if there was a problem that somebody on the board didn't know the answer to which I would seriously doubt or I needed further instruction. Mike
  11. greg and BreeThanks for your replies. I think I'll call him up and take it. I talked to him earlier and he said he would take 700.00 for it. I will have to drive 3to 4 hrs one way to get it. But the wife can visit family while were up there killing two birds with one rock. What should I check for other than it stiching. And can I get my money out of it later if I dont like it. He said there was a box of parts with it I assume different feet and thread. He said he doesn't know anything about it that his dad used it until he died earlier this year. I'm going to try and go up Friday. It's the pfaff I'm getting and I was wondering were a fella gets parts and help if he needs it. Once again a BIG THANKS!! Mike
  12. Howdy to all I first need to point out I no nothing about sewing machines! Art was nice enough to answer a ? for me on a singer but I have a ? on some other machines and I don't just want to pester Art so here goes. There is a Pfaff 1245-706/47-6101-CLPMN and a Juki LU-562 for sale they both come with tables and motors. Their wanting a $1,000 apiece for them. ? is are they worth it and which is the better machine for the money. They both look to be in great shape and were used to sew upholstery. As I told Art I intend to sew hair on cow and possibly in the future double and stitch stuff up to 9oz or so. Any and all input greatly appreciated. Mike
  13. Rob I've been thinking on this and I think it may be 32. Ya make your sprial going down(8)then ya make your bights and come up over/under(8)and then make your bights and come down building pairs(8)and then ya come from both ends splitting pairs(8)which equals 32 I think? I may be as wrong as the is long but thats my take on it. Let me know if I'm wrong. Mike
  14. I want to Thank everyone for their comments. I'm glad everybody liked it. It feels great to drive with and it really doesn't affect how the steering wheel free turns ya just have to open your hand a little more. roo4u I used eight strands that were nine feet by a 1/8inch wide. That knot has eight bights with a gaucho interweave. So I'm not real sure how many strands that would be. Maybe someone out there knows. Mike
  15. Rob I haven't used them yet but I'm fixing to get some. I have cut up a tin can and wrapped the end of my roo string with that and it does make a world of difference. But when I use rawhide it seems the ends are stiff enough but I may give them a whirl on rawhide when I get some. It can't hurt. Thanks for reminding me!! Mike
  16. I want to thank everyone for thier comments and JRedding ya take it off and ship it here and I'll get it done!!!! Mike
  17. MatthewD I think that would look cool and it wouldn't be that bad if ya take the steering wheel off. Shelly It took me about 8-10hrs over a couple of days. I know it wouldn't take near that long if I'd taken it off. But I didn't want to mess with the airbag. Mike
  18. kalliergo Make sure that you have a nice oval or circle with the edges cut in a nice straight edge opposed to being cut in a wavy or irregular edge. And just keep practicing. Hope this helps Mike
  19. Sorry about the extra picture and everything being all jumbled up. I have no idea why all that happened. Mike
  20. Howdy AllThe steering wheel cover on my wife's truck wore through. We looked and looked but couldn't find a cover that looked worth a dang. So I had this bright idea!! I would cover the effected area with a multi string knot. Yea I should of known better but what the heck. I got it done and I still have a crick in my neck. So I tells the wife next time I have a great idea just tell me to forget it. If I ever do another one the steering wheel is coming off.
  21. Bruce Very nice site. Easy to navigate the pictures were good not a whole lot of words (they hurt my head) Just a great site. The blue did kinda make my eyes dance but they got used to it. Congratulations (big word thank goodness for sp ck) on a job well done. Mike
  22. can ya show a picture. I don't have that book. Mike
  23. RunningRoan I've also been looking to buy scrap hair on pieces. I've found this place triggbrothers.com I haven't bought anything from them as yet so I don't know about service. They had a pound for six dollars or 50 pounds for a hunderd dollars. I don't know if ya can buy 10 or 20 pounds and where the price changes. The pieces are from hand size up to 8 square feet. I haven't looked enough yet to know what a fair price is for scrap. But just another possible source. Mike
  24. Well after discussing all this with the wife and not really having time yet to check all the above mentioned. Thinking back she had a horse kick her in the ribs and break some. So she thinks she might have started kinda of riding off to one side not really knowing it to kinda protect them ribs when they were healing up. And just got in the habit of doing that. But I don't think shes ever had a horse sored up from it. So I reckon we'll look at that also. Along with everything mentioned above. I guess I need to take a little time and watch her ride. Once again I want to thank everyone for there time and advice. Y'all just keep proving why this site is so great. Mike
  25. I want to thank everyone for taking the time and giving me things to check out and think about. I'll have to give everything on here a whirl and if it still doesn't work out I'll be back. Thanks again for your time!! Mike
