  1. Bernie I'll try this agian!! Welcome to the site it's nice to have ya!! I want to thank thank ya for the formula. I was just wondering why do ya use the dia. opposed to the circumferance and what does the 4.5 repersent. I'm sure these are silly questions but my math skills are behind my computer skills! I visted your web site and those are dang nice looking whips. Thanks Mike
  2. Gary Welcome to the site. As far as your question I always talk up Bruce Grants books I think they are very good books although some find them hard to follow. And reasonably priced another good set of books would be by Gail Hought although they are alot more. These are the only two authors whos books i've read and used. There are several other books and videos out there by accomplished braiders. Although since I haven't used them I will let someone else discuss them. Hope this helps Mike
  3. Johanna Thanks for the repley and explanation. It is a real nice feature. Mike
  4. It seems that before the big crash ya could put the cursor on the topic and preview it. I can't do that now. I'm I doing something wrong or has that feature not been put back. Just wondering. Thanks Mike

    Braiding

khoipan92 I've never done this braid so i'm not to sure how the end is supposed to be done. But in Bruce Grants book it looks like after they go thru your snap they are tucked back into the braid in reverse order. I think I would build a long pineapple knot on each end. I know thats not much help but it's all I got. Good Luck!! Mike

    rawhide question

Crow I forgot to add I was told by a fella that knew what he was talking about to cut my strips 3/4". Maybe that would help. Mike

    rawhide question

Crow I haven't had the chance to cut my own rawhide from a hide yet. But I would think you could case it and get it to lay flat. I also wander if ya had it to wet or it dried to fast. These are just some thoughts. Maybe some with some know how will chime in. I wish ya luck. Mike
  8. Cecil I think the buckle turned out great. I like the shading on the elk and although I don't do edge braiding I think that looks good as well. Thanks for sharing. Mike
  9. rgerbitz I don't know if I should of pm ya with this info. But others might be wondering the same. I paid Mr. Neubert $410.00 which included shipping. I posted a picture in another thread. Hope this helps Mike
  10. Azmal That is fantastic looking stuff!! Thanks for sharing Mike

    cutter/bevler

Hello I hope everybody is doing good and having a wonderful day!! I thought i'd post a picture of my string cutter/bevler I just got a week or two ago. I bought it from Bryan Neubert and i've been tickled pink with it. I've been able to cut strings down to 1/32nd with it and some down to 1/64th but I haven't been able to consitantly cut 1/64th without breaking them. I think it has more to do with the rawhide being cased just right. It has a dial on the end you use to adjust the string width ya wish to cut or bevel. So ya can really fine tune it. I bought a cheap vise to hold it with. It cost some money (no more than othr ones i've seen) but I think it's well worth it if a fella or gal plans on doing a lot of braiding. On a side note Mr. Neubert is a heck of a nice guy. He spent a great amount of time with me on the phone answering questions and just talking braiding. Mike

    Roo bracelet

I would like to thank everybody for their comments Beezachoppa i'am emberassed to say but probaly 8-10hrs it's the first time i've used strings that small. So hopefully i'll get faster. Mr. Bell I hate to let this out but I use my wifes stitch riper! I need to eather buy a small fid or make one. I would like to do some work with 1/64th" strings but I think I need to get one of those visor things that horsehairBraider uses. HorsehairBraider on this one it's just one size. rgerbitz I haven't made my own rawhide yet but hope to real soon. I have some precut 1/4" cow and some 1/8",1/16" calf from Bill Confer. So I split that down and cut it to what ever width I need. I just got my string cutter/bevler a week or two ago from Bryan Neubert so i'm ready to make some rawhide. The knots are a single strand two turn long pineapple. CharlieR The knots are built over a groundwork of tape and I think roo looks better the more age and wear it gets on it. Once again I want to thank everybody for their comments Mike

    Roo bracelet

Here's a bracelet I just finished. The body is a 8 strand braid with 1/16" roo strings. The knots are 1/32" rawhide with the two knots towards the center having a roo interweave. I thought the knots with the interweave looked pretty good to my naked eye. But then I used the macro feature on them and they don't look as good as I thought. Such is life. Any and all input welcomed Thanks Mike
  14. Charlie I use a Osborne model 84 and i've been real tickled with it. If the blade is sharp and your rawhide is cased right it does a dandy of a job. With that said I have cut some strings in two when i've hit a hard spot. I haven't really been able to split rawhide paper thin so I just use calf when I need real thin strings. I think it'a more my fault than the splitters though with not having the patience to recase my strings after running them through the spltter 3 or 4 times. But I can take a piece roo and split it so thin theres nothing left but the grain left. The Osbornes also seem to hold their value really well. I'm not sure I would buy a knock off I dont think the blades are made nearly as well. It would be nice if ya could do as Mr. Johnson suggested and try out a few different splitters to find out what ya like. I think there's a Osborne 84 model on ebay right now and I wouldn't be suprised if it brought around $400.00 dollars.Sorry for rambling so much just my .02 cents worth.Mike
  15. Randyc I must admit it is nice to get a five finger wave opposed to the one finger wave. My dad was a lawdog in Okla. when I was little and later a prison guard (corrections officer) here in Ks. so I know what ya mean. Take care Mike
  16. HorsehairBraider That is just pretty dang cool. I would lke to make a set for my girls. The only problem is they have about fifty little horses between them. And they would want one for each horse. Thanks for sharing Mike
  17. Rob Very nice looking hobbles!! My wife has been after me to braid a pair maybe one of these days after I catch up on the bracelets. Thanks for sharing it's always nice to see others work. Mike
  18. Jason Before the big crash there was a thread on here about covering a core. If I remember right they were saying you need to take your circumference and add half of the circumference to your final measurement. So if ya had a inch you would figure a inch and a half to cover. So instead of 8- 1/8" strings you would use 12 -1/8 inch strings. I think thats how it went but not for sure as I havent tried it myself. Maybe someone can repost that thread or give more insight. Mike
  19. TwoCrow Here is a bracelet i'm doing. The groundwork is all tape. Hopefully can post photos of finished product in a couple of days. Mike
  20. I would have to agree with all the advice given because it will all make a difference in the finished product. But I would put my money your core being to big for the size of strings your using. I just aint sure of the circumference of a core with 8mm dia. What is the circumference in inches. Mike
  21. Opagon Nice work thanks for sharing!!!! Mike
