  1. Hey, Steve! Your logo in the pattern is a nice touch! Johanna
  2. Excellent idea. Your new avatar reminds me strongly of my first husband, quite a resemblance. Johanna
  3. Yep, David, freak drooled all over the Jesus seat, but after the Honda flood, I knew the seat could take it. I got a little worried in the competition room when he pointed out the helmet and said, "I'd like to put that on and run around in here!" Hey, freak, was that an excellent steak dinner we had later, or what? Wade has been doing stuff in the shop since we got home. He's a lot better at it than he thinks he is, naturally. Johanna
  4. That's a kind and generous offer, thanks, Mike! And happy birthday! Johanna
  5. Being plainer, are they faster to produce? I imagine the lacing is what consumes the time, though. With your talent, seems a waste not to get you to get fancy on every seat. You and Beezachoppa can make anyone's dream-come-true seat with flat out anything on it...they could stamp out a logo and be done with it. Maybe it will leave you more time for your personal projects? Hey, nice FIRST PLACE IN ADVANCED DIVISION Blue Ribbon from the International Federation of Leather Guilds... Johanna

Pics of that famous workbench start here. Sounds great! Ask away, maybe we'll get lucky and they will say, "Yes!" Johanna

Yep, tell Barry King that if he wants to talk to leatherworkers, I'll arrange VIP status and a full house. Aaron, I used to work for Tandy, too, before TLF. I've often thought it was the sweetest job I ever had. How many places are willing to pay someone to spread the joys of leatherwork? Glad to have you here, tell your friends. Johanna
  9. Tanning animal hides is a skill common to every ancient culture, all around the world. Maybe research how natives tanned in each specific locale, because methods and chemicals will vary depending on the resources available in the area. Whipit, thanks for bringing this up, and please tell us more! Many of us treat the leather store like buying meat at the supermarket-everything comes finished and pretty, and we have forgotton how to do the work of the slaughter and processing of the animal. I want to know how to do things the old fashioned way. I want to know why we do things the way we do. Geat topic here! Johanna
  10. Two ways: Click your (or another member's) name to the left of a post. If you are logged in, the drop down menu will offer to show member topics and posts. Second way is to click your name to go to your profile (or click "my controls" on the top menu). In the center are the options for posts and topics. Let me know if you have any problems viewing profiles, because I'm trying to resolve a bug in the software. Johanna
  11. I'm working on it, Paul. I moved your thread into the bigger one to keep everything in one place. Johanna
  12. Today the United States Marine Corp honors its anniversary, 232 years of faithful service. Tomorrow is Veterans Day in the United States. God bless all the men and women who serve, and their families, as we pause this weekend to remember all who lived and died for our country. I've met many soldiers and veterans through leatherwork, and I suspect there are quite a few of you here I don't even know are vets. Hands up, guys so we can all pay our respects. Johanna
  13. Anybody a whiz at mySQL databases for PHP and IPB software? That's my repair query, and it doesn't work. What is weird is that I use IE 6 & 7 and have no problems, and you guys say it works in Opera and Firefox. I think it may be related to a modification, not the power surge Dec 19, but I'm not sure. I'll be working with the helpdesk until this problem is resolved, if I have to go backwards through all the mods. Johanna
  14. Shoe polish is what furniture repair people use for scuffs. Try it in an inconspicous place first. (standard disclaimer!) Johanna
  15. Tell Forrest that some lady in Ohio he's never heard of is praying for him, too. God bless all of our leatherworkers, and Veterans. Johanna
  16. Hey, Bill- what happens when you click "members" top right of main page of the forum? Do the lists display like they should? Can you click directly (w/o the back button) into a profile from that page? Johanna
  17. Yep, that was probably me. I'm trying to get this fixed. It's hard becauseI have to wait to ask if it's better or broken more every time I make a change, as it works just fine for me, no matter what. Please, folks, let me know if I do something to make it even worse! Johanna
  18. Hmmm...I think it's PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), but they are PITAS!! Johanna (ugh, what a job these guys have!)
  19. I was hoping it was fixed, guess it isn't. Weird thing is that it works just fine for me, on both computers. I cannot duplicate the problem here. I had hoped that clearing up the database error would be enough, guess it wasn't. I will submit another ticket. Sorry, folks, I will keep on it. Johanna (PS I merged the two threads.)
  20. SPOKANE, Washington (Reuters) - A cow plunged from a 200-foot (61-metre) cliff onto the hood of a minivan on a highway in central Washington state, according to police. The car's occupants, Charles and Linda Everson, were not hurt in Sunday's accident, but the cow was euthanized at the scene. "If the cow had fallen a split second later, the animal would have landed right in their laps," said Jeff Middleton, criminal deputy of the Chelan County Sheriff's Department. Middleton estimated the animal weighed 600 lbs (272 kilograms), or the average size of a mature cow. It had been missing for two days and wandered 5 miles (8 km) from home near the popular Lake Chelan tourist area.
  21. The Leather Crafters and Saddlers Journal announces it's first ever special contest to be held at the 15th Annual Rocky Mountain Leather Trade Show. The contest will be a Roper Saddle in honor of master saddle maker Don King, 1998 Al Stohlman Award Winner. (see article in Nov/Dec 2007 issue of Leather Crafters and Saddlers Journal, page 44) There will be 3 divisions in the contest. Beginner Division: Rough out or smooth-out, no carving necessary. 1st place $500 2nd place $250 3rd place $100 More here
  22. Hi,Bill! Click Tools>Options>Advanced and under browsing, tick "disable script debugging". Make sure "display a notification about every script error" is unticked. IE is not always happy about all the Java script the forum uses. Let me know if you still have problems. Johanna
  23. In email settings, untick "enable email notification by default". If it is ticked, the board will automatically send an email to you for any topic you have started or posted in. Johanna
  24. The "most" number is the previous 24 hours, and yes, it is correct. This site is averaging almost 900 unique visitors a day. 165 people joined in October, an average of a little more than 5 a day. Methinks November will be higher than that (13 yesterday). Johanna
  25. It's a convenience to be able to adjust the strap for standing or sitting. People generally wear the guitar lower when they stand, and cinch it up a little for playing while seated. I sometimes put my strap on more than one guitar, too. My electric guitar calls for the strap to be shorter (tighter) than my acoustic. YMMV Johanna
