  1. Hi and welcome!! Tell me bout crazy economy and I won't laugh my socks off..aww just gotta deal with it and move on but soon I'm out of what is in stock and who knows what will happen then?? Anyways, I've made a few bracers and I never do rolled edges. To me it is mostly to keep it simple and shorten making time. It does look very nice and comfy. What I often do is to pinch the bottom edge outwards a bit to accomodate and allow for hands movement without getting in the way and irritate. I allways wetform my bracers and thats when I do the little curl on the bottom edge. Off course the edges is beveled and slicked so that they are nice and smooth aswell (alltough very hard). Good luck with your bracers either way you choose to go and good to have you back!!! Tom
  2. Hello and welcome to the board!!! Theres a welth of information here and lots of helpful people willing to share their knowledge so don't be afraid to ask any questions. Sorry I can't help you with the bling!! Tom
  3. Very good looking seats!! Tri-weave allways looks nice. I agree with Kate and Madmax about the others, the fingercarving looks soo nice and the top one is just very elegant. Tom
  4. It will be primarily black and sure has it's quirks. The thing that is annoying me a bit is that they had all winter to make the pan and comes up with it now!! This project was promise last summer and the bikes fiberglass shell has not changed since then. I'm gunna be mad if they need to change things for next summer when they rebuild the engine to use methanol (wich I belive will increase dimensions of everything fuel related, hoses, carbs, air intakes, fuelpumps etc). Tom
  5. The bag looks just excellent!!! Very nice and rich luster of the leather and gorgeous with that black and red combo wich to say the least is well used in my shop. Nice to see a neighbour from Denmark!!! Tom
  6. Finished purse is looking good Tim!! I like the handles, black with white stitches looks good against natural leather. Backgrounding is tricky. I keep my leather not too moist when I do it. Reason for this is that if it is too moist the mass of the leather will be pushed around and then it is hard to get the background smooth and even. I use light taps with my wooden club on the punch and overlap prevoius stamp. After I completed the whole area I look over it and try to (very carefully) try to smooth out any choppy looking areas. Sometimes I'm very happy with my backgrounding and sometimes it seems hard to achieve a totally smooth surface. I think possibly the leather itself and how it takes the tooling matters too. I allways bevel around conturs with a normal checkered beveler before doing backgrounding and when doing the backgrounding I tilt the backgrounder so that the background is not pushed up against the contours and distorts the impression of a good relief effect. Hope this is understandable, kinda hard to explain in the very few minutes I have available at the moment;-) Nice job on the purse, I really like it!! Tom
  7. Oh...oh..oh ..hm yeah not to many words come to mind now but it is incredibly beautiful!!! Tom
  8. Good looking sheath!! I'm sure he just hapened to "forget" his knife who just happened to need a sheath;-) Tom
  9. I used to play the drums in punkbands when younger. A common nickname for a drummer is "skinbasher" wich is kinda of funny nowadays. I've been trying to pick it up but never find time to visit my friend who has a small studio and a drumkit that I like at home. The quiet digital drums available today allow double bass drums and has like a skin that resembles the skins on the good 'ol acoustic drums so I am eagerly hoping those will become cheaper in the future. Tom
  10. WOW KATE !! That chessboard/table is very beautiful!! Love that meandering border and I can't spot the stop/start of it!! Well done (as allways)!! Tom
  11. I'm ok over here, got some stuff to deal with in my private life but right now that is put on hold due to leatherwork. What could be more important than that;-) Well finances are really low so that has to be dealt with as soon as possible! Glad to see your in business and looks like you're doing well too!!! Tom
  12. Very good looking badge!! Lining up letters is such a pain, at least when you don't do it much. Tom
  13. Hey Joe!! Welcome back!! Nice cuffs as usual, looks like you're getting more and more into carving and tooling!! Tom
  14. First try with leather or first try with posting?? It looks great so I assume it's your first try with posting pics. Tom
  15. HA ha yeah I know but I like to work some with padding to smooth the pan underneath anyway so there will be a thin piece that I will shape a little and I really want this job to look it's best. Theese bikes spend most their time being looked at by lots of people at the races and hopefully it'll attract interest rather than look like just a piece of bolted on leather. Tom
  16. Ehum, sometimes the obvious is hard to see;-) Tom
  17. Fantastic conclusions Madmax!! I think you nailed every step of the process I work with, right now I am tooling designs onto the backpiece wich is separate and I will use rivets to attach it to the top edge and also around the other edges. Main middle piece will be separate, oversized and sewn onto separate riveted side pieces so that it will be covering the rivets. The main piece can't be riveted down because there will be a padding beneath it. I think with the separate pieces it will be easier to shape it to the pan.... probably ha ha. Lots of guesswork on this one. Prolly gunna skip the orange scales because I think the bike is a bit messy in the paintscheme. The painter obviously wanted to show his best and got a little overambitious and so am I, so I try to apply the less is more theory, still I got some killer carvings to perform. The mainpiece carving is giving me nightmares but if I can only work it out onto the transfer it'll be good I think. The raven I did was some drawinglessons for me and so will this detailed, draped grim reaper skull be. Thanks for comment, your thoughts on construction are valuable!! Tom
  18. Coming close to a hundred sold wristbands and all are wetformed and custom fitted for each individual buyer I can say that out of those bracers there may be about 10-20 maximum that ordered above 7". I know this because I have 7". I allways measure over the joints bone (hm.. what is it called that bone?) This is mostly for male customers. I've done few for women and around 6" is most common with those. Tom
  19. Hey Bro, there it is!!! Looking really really cool with that fierce red colour and the birdie in flames came out very well. You deserve a cold one now and I don't because this day was more like my tooling plans crashed with stuff getting in between (as usual). Tom
  20. Aww ha ha I might consider a couple of beers and a cigar when it is done and hopefully I'm happy about it. Some tooling is to be done today. Tom
  21. Very nice carving!! I am curious about the backgrounding on the second pic. Looks like you gone over it with the swivelknife and I like the look of it but wonder what it looks like in closeup so I'd be happy to see that!! Tom
  22. A lovely bag and very well done!! Tom
  23. Hi and welcome Rick!! Tina is right, the best place on the net and we do love pics!! Like you say, you can probably contribute with your fifteen years of experience and I'm sure you will also stumble across yawdropping things that makes you wonder how it was done. Ask away when you feel like it. Most questions get answered. Tom
  24. Those are very beautiful Zhh!!! Very glad to see those because they are very rare on the board!! Tom
