  1. Very good looking work!! The white stitching makes a good frame considering the subject of that book. Tom
  2. Thanks alot sis, yeah I finally got to do the tattoo swallow that I've been envying David Theobald and Keving King about;-) Thank you Roo!!! Awww seriously Luke!!! I wish you were here with, sharing a beer and discuss leather and off course practice too..but..before beer;-) Thank you very much!!! Now, something came up. As usual I take my pics before final coat of sealer so now I have put a coat of that on AND it brings out lots of yellows from the saddletan...bawl. Hm, I've put it aside and gonna judge in better light and clearer head tomorrow if it is too yellow or ok. Tom
  3. This one's a special for a friend and I did mainly because I felt it was a good practice with the golden dye. It was a while since I played with that. Also I got the chance to play with the new eco-flo saddletan antique :wtf: is that compared to the old. Brown cream VS rich oily black brown goo that is beautiful to use as a filler in textures and crevages. I had to use a sharpie to get a good black fill in the text on this one. THAT TAKES ALOT OF TIME AND A STEADY HAND...hm..gotta work out new techniques to get me back on track. It was a pain to paint the gold into the carved swirling things (no good with words today) and I used the sharpie to make the edges around those more defined. Some of the process and pics is available at my blog from the link below. Criticism is welcome as allways!!! Tom

Nice looking feather Tom!!! It is very easy to ruin the hairblade pattern I think when you skive it down but yours are very intact. Tom

  7. Aha, do I sense a challenge;-) I'm sure yours would come out better looking!! It sure would look good on bracers and I've been wanting to test and learn how to makes scales so maybe I can squeeze a pair in with some scrap leather some day but don't count on it. I've got my hands full with stuff at the moment. Very good looking belt, just gotta tell you again!!!! Tom

  11. Excellent!!! Love the trees and their eyes looks really great. Extremely cool sign, don't you just love to carve and tool all those letters Love it!! Tom
  12. Apply some resolen to a scrap piece and try remov it with denaured alcohol if you have that. I have removed their acrylic leather sheen successfully with den. alcohol but NOT from whole pieces, just details of tooling. Tom
  13. Good thing Drac pointed out what I forgot!!! Great looking holsters. Love the running pattern on the right one, veery nice indeed!! Tom
  14. I have tried some pre-dyed black veg. tan leather and it was fine but harder to carve because the tracing lines is harder to see IMHO. I may point out that this was when I was learning carving so maybe I would reconsider this opinion if I tried it again. One problem I have encountered when dyeing black is that I have gotten "lift" when I have finished it with acrylic sealer wich made what was bright white (the tooling pattern) a little more greyish tone. (black dye lifts off when you apply the acrylic sealer and mix into it). EVEN though I buffed it alot before sealing. Tom
  15. Good looking purse!!! That brown looks very rich and lustrous and the brass looks very good with it. Nice job!!! Tom

  21. Hi and Welcome to the board Ravenquille!! Nice name, so happens that ravens are my favourite bird/animal!!! Using own artwork is something many of us dream about, I think. This board is very friendly and has all types of leatherworkers from novelty to expertise. Don't be afraid to ask questions, most people are very generous and take their time to answer them. There is lot of stuff to be read about carving and most aspects is covered but it might be a little digging for you to find the goodies. Hm there are some stuff on youtube aswell but off course some digging to find it there aswell. I have made a few bracers and for first ones I would recommend to string them together on the arms inside OR use a velcro type attacment if you need an overlapping design. That is if a very snug fit is required. Snaps is a bit tricky because you need to take into account how much extra you need to add because you loose some length when you wrap it around the arm. The thicker the leather the more you will loose. Tom
  22. Thanks alot Bruce!! You're very generous!!! Tom
  23. WOW Art!!!! That looks just excellent, what a lucky wife you have!! Love the colour combo!! Tom
