Silver dye?
TomSwede replied to Wyvern's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
I use gold, silver and copper from a Danish company ROC but i think there are other brand silver dye in US available. This stuff is just soooooo sweet to work with. It covers black like nothing else I tell you, except copper wich is a bit harder to get on but not as tideous as going with white acrylic on black. First three is gold antiqued with saddletan and the Motörhead is actually silver wich turns gold/champagne with the antiquing. If you can get silver dye I definetly recommend give it a try. Tom -

If you want to you can change the name somewhere in the settings panel, if memory serves me right but the one you have will work fine. I do think people will call you just Demeter. It is true that there is some incredible stuff here, I just don't know where people get all their ideas from but maybe this is just because leather is such a fantastic material to work with. I don't know the status with work on restoring the old site but we had a crash in Jan -08 and the backups was corrupt so all you see right now is from after that. Once we get the site restored there will be plenty more to read through. Tom

Very cool wallet!! The brown tone is rich and good looking and well done job with the stitching! A roundbraid is allways appreciated by me. Tom -
Thank you Darkdreams!!! Second time I'm asked on this one better spill out to all of you. I'm a man without leatherworking secrets. The red/black dye effect is easy I call it black lava or red asphalt, can't decide wich is more suiting. Anyways I just do the backgrounding with the tool that I can't rember the number for (I'm at work) and once dry and wetformed I apply diluted (alcohol) Fiebings red pro oil dye with a brush, nevermind if it gets streaky. Then 2 coats of Fiebings acrylic leather sheen and let it dry overnight and then I used to apply Tandys saddletan wich is discontinued now so I used this time the Tandy mahogany stain wich I have two cans left of. Let it sit until completely dry and then wipe it off with a damp cloth on a flat sponge. Remember to not use the cloth when it gets to dirty, swap it with a fresh one. Lastly I put the cloth around my finger and wipe detail where I feel it is necessary (in this case important to make them as identical possible, think I got pretty close to) and then buff the hell out of it, once dry. Seal it with acrylic sealer and buff it again. Sidenote: when I have layed down the backrounding I tilt the stamp and wack it really hard here and there to create some really deep and crisper irregular "holes" wich adds more to the texture. Remember to spin the tool to use different sides of it. Gives the look of old asphalt when it is frayed and cracked up here and there. Tom

Thanks guys!! Bracer business has been good and I think more orders is on the inbound and also requests to come party with my customers, lol. That's fun and I'm not the one to spit in the glass so I'm gonna grab my Ambassador and go down and show them the Northlander way of drinking;-) rdb: those flames is actually not flames but more like a development of some wavepatterns I used on the bootstrap and possibly on something else. Tom

That is a very neat ringbinder. Beautiful lacing and nice tooling! Good job!! Tom

Paul decided it was time to have some new bracers based upon the chaos symbol. I'm not sure I like this symbol because there are unexpected difficulties everytime I do this one, lol. Anyways after two steps forward, one stap back production here they are, just above 2 ½" in height. Comments and criticism are welcome!

Hi and welcome to the board tgidry!! Sorry to hear about your loss due to the fire! Like the guys allready told you, just fire away any questions you may have. The atmosphere is very friendly and helpful and everyday there seem to be something new to pick up from in the show off section. There's a nifty little button up at the top right of all pages wich is called "view new posts" that many people like to use to keep track on active topics. We love pics here and crude comments is basically an unknown term here unlike other forums I've seen. Good luck with building up your new shop!! Tom

screwed up...need help
TomSwede replied to Hedge's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I thought about wrapping the leather between the holes with lace. Maybe it could be done in a decorative way?? Just gotta check if theres is enough clearance for the connecting strap otherwise one could file up the holes a bit. Tom -
That's a good looking piece of portfolio!!! Tom
