Fun with Orange

I'm taking a guess here that any type of antiquing would work, saddletan is a very nice gooey gel to smear on and as soon as I get time I'll be trying it with sadletan. This project I need to keep as close to the tube colour/tone since customer wanted exactly that....with glitter on...duh!...glamourprincesses...lol. Oh crap...just realized I need to fix the liner to this piece if I'm going to be able to get it together over weekend.. bye then, lol. Tom -
Prep of a 30 year plus old Python Skin
TomSwede replied to badLoveLeather's topic in Exotics, Reptiles, Furs and others
Hey Badlove! This is so cool, I love snakes and snakeskin. I was thinking that the skin is really older than you if taking into count that it sat on the snake for xx number of years and then laying around about 30 years. This stuff's hard to get here so I just love to see exotic skins work. Keep it up! Tom -
Wow!! That is really something, I'll be very interested in seeing this coming together. Wonderful work Leerworker, thanks for sharing! Tom

Thank you Myriam! It's comments like theese that get me going (and sometimes yelling for being a bit of a slacker). Good news, I'm currently working on the tutorial on that red/blask tone of the rodtube. Have you tried any yet?? Keep your fingers crossed it goes well, antiquing coming on tomorow but I don't think I'll get it online until Sunday-Monday. Spending weekend in my other house in the Swedish outbacks, were the bears are plenty and the wolves too!! Tom -

I love cammo and this is a very nice wallet, don't know how I could have missed this! Solid as usual travis! I try harder to follow up in the future. Tom -
Thank you 276, just getting around without that airbrush, lol. Airbrush or not I definetly want to learn how to paint the dyes anyway. Tom

Dyes, especially black is known to rub off easily and the oil in antiques will dissolve and run in reain, I think and there's alot of ways to seal them. I think acrylic colours is the least of your problems on a dyed seat, since it is in fact acrylic I think it should stay put without sealer but you still have to seal for the dye so that sort it self out. Fiebings leather balm with aussie wax is often used on antqued bike seat, not a sealer but apperently works ok as that when rubbed in. I think, maybe (memory failing a bit on this), that single action is better for those really thin lines while the dual action is used for medium fine stuff and when it comes to apply sealer a really wide fine cloud is preferred to dust the sealer on seamless and without streaking. Something like that. Thanks for the shoptip, I'll bookmark it for later use but one should really have a go with the more expensive stuff right now. Tom

From now I'm gonna refer to casing my my leather as marinating my leather Tom

I have now looked at your homepage/blog and seen what an impressive airbrusher you are! Hey, nice skulls there I love anything you could find on a heavy metal album and of course tattooflash but I don't draw well and compared to you, really badly. Airbrushing is quite common with leather and they say that spirit dyes works really well but there seem to be a number of people here that applies final sealers too. I think they mostly use acrylic based sealers. I think they are shooting antiques too but not sure. I read that working with leathers you need both dual and single action guns, can't remember why. I can't afford one just yet but I checked a new laserprinter from the most wanted list yesterday so airbrush is now on top there but also very expensive. BTW, where do you buy your leather? My supplier is Swedish Tjäderläder (www.tjaderlader.se) but it's Norwegian owned and when buying online I can see that the shoppingcart connects with some server skinnlåvven or something like that. Hey neighbour, this one is looking good. Two tones (or more) are tough to work with. did you use brushes to apply the dye with?? A tip is to have a piece of scrapleather on the side and as soon you have refilled the brush into the dye and are going back to paint you put the brush to this leather to bleed out the excess dye, this will help you to control the bleeding over on edges. I like the choice of colours here and it suits this logotype that is very beautiful in itself. Tom

Azmal, even though you seldom have time to hang around and chit chat to much with us I'm very glad you're here. Your posts are truly pure eyecandy even for someone not historically inclined (I think). Stunning work as usual, keep 'em coming!! Tom

You're welcome Craftsman! Like I said, I was on a scavenge today for these type of motifs, now that I open the door to the fisihing world with rod tubes they might come handy. I just love to make tooling designs from tattoo art sincethose designs from start is thought of going on a hard media/canvas but fishing is way underrated there only lots of Jap koi fish. I'm really looking forward to see that wallet!! Tom

Beautiful stuff! Love the skull, nice toolin! Thought I'd make some punkskull coasters for the BIG punkreunion we are having this summer, good way to rid some scrap. Show us the wrap when it's done, can't wait to see it! Tom

Those looks really nice Lindatt! Are you a painter? I remember that those dragonmasks was quite painted or dyed so perhaps a go with thinned down dyes and brushes. I think those would look good in realistic style but also perhaps with some antiquing or just leave it in sun until it's tanned to your liking. Tom

This ones definetly coming out of water, lol http://mariewin.server304.com/marieblog/up...agle-782544.jpg This one needs a watersplash from perhaps a tattoflash http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview...eaping_bass.jpg Still no water http://www.tna-tackle.com/images/TOUR_STRIPED_BASS.jpg This one's tricky http://www.jkchristian.com/sitebuilder/ima...per-600x396.jpg That's all I could find on "striped bass" google image search. I've been scavenging for fishinmotifs a bit today so hunting for this was no probs for me since I was in the game anyway. Next time tell your customer to bring with the image he'd like portrayed and that it would mean a lower price too!!, lol Can't resist posting this seal who like to eat the fishermens striped bass http://pictopia.com/perl/get_image?provide...hoto_id=2035075 Happy fishin..eh hunting I mean!
