Need some holster cleaning help

it's called Verdigris. It usually happens with brass and those snaps would be plated brass. I think vinegar will remove Verdigris, can't be sure of that, though. Tony. -
Now, that seems a great idea. Lateral thinking at it's best!!! Tony.

What are steel eyelet washers used for?
tonyc1 replied to Freddo's topic in Hardware and Accessories
Apart from Stainless steel, I've never used Steel eyelets and Washers, all I've ever used are Brass or painted Brass. Tony. -
But 9/16" is larger than 3/8" so how can you tap it smaller? Tony.

Thanks, Luke. Tony.

Financial Rape and Plunder of the World
tonyc1 replied to Jordan's topic in All About Us and Off Topic
It's a bit of a Furphy the toilet tax suggestion, i've never heard it mentioned. The compulsory Third Party insurance is good as it covers any injury or damage you do to anyone else or their property but not your own vehicle. It boils down to the fact if you're not registered you don't have insurance! Some councils here have made it illegal to cut down trees in certain areas, even when they are a danger ( there may be a rare beetle or microbe living on in or on it ) and these ridiculous laws were instigated by the Tree Huggers and Bambi Brigade but I think a lot of this will change after these disastrous fires we have just had here in Victoria! These types of restrictions have caused loss of life!!! Tony. -

Help needed - Choosing/finding a new/replacement round knife
tonyc1 replied to UKRay's topic in Leather Tools
I prefer the type of handle that is on the Osborne knives than Dixon use, I'm partial to the oval shape. I have 3 Dixon knives, one is pretty much original size, very little sharpening even though I've had it for 40 years, holds a great edge and it rings like a bell if you flick it with your finger. One other knife just says Dixon, not Dixon & Sons, which is real good and another knife I use a lot is made by Barnesly. I do have another Dixon knife which is only about 25 years old, it's a half headknife, with a pine coloured, round handle but it is not as good as steel as the older ones. Tony. -
Is that one piece of felt or two pieces sewn together? Tony.
-
Ah, it's the Cheek Pieces, not the Noseband..
-
Which part of the Noseband is this? Tony.

Help needed - Choosing/finding a new/replacement round knife

If the quality of their knives is like the quality of their other tools these days, I don't reckon they'd be much good. Tony. -

tonyc1 replied to UKRay's topic in Leather Tools
I can't believe that after doing leatherwork for so many years, you have only one roundknife! They seem to be an item whose number grows over the years, like splitters. There must be lots of good old knives in UK that someone wants to get rid of, surely. Tony. -
High cost of cantle/horn pliers got you down???

My old stitching horse is about the same shade of green so that may have been the usual colour in those days. I put a wider seat over the original to make it more comfy. Tony.
-
No, it's more like a terch.

You don't want too much sticking out, just a Millipoof will do!!! Tony.
-
You could crease the keeper. Very nice though. Tony.

You know, a few miilion years ago we probably had the same immune system that animals have where we could have eaten anything and not get sick but as we evolved and got fussier and cleaner we lost that ability to cope with bacteria! Tony.

With a drill you're actually removing a small amount of material whereas with an awl you wont.
