  1. Here is another example of excessive postal charges. There are a couple of Crew / Slot punches on Ebay and they are quoting $37 US for postage to Australia. This appears very excessive after being charged $8.65 for 2 edgers from Rons Tools as I'm sure there wouldn't be much diff in weight and it puts a person off showing any interest in bidding whatsoever.
  2. It'd cost much too much to post to Australia!!
  3. Here is an example of down to earth postal charges. I just bought another couple of edgers from Ron's Tools. These came in a small carton measuring 7 1/2" x 7"x 2 1/4" and were well packed and the cost of postage to Australia was only $8.65. This size package would easily hold the same types of tools and easily hold a headknife and yet some sellers on Ebay want $25.00 - $29.00 to post what should be the same size package app. Some sellers like to screw the last cent possible from buyers. I'd recommend Ron's Tools to anyone for quick, inexpensive service and a good product!
  4. The kids use Walthers while I have an old Steyr. I can't shoot the scores the rest of the family shoot, too damn hard for me. Pellets are getting dear. They are app $13.00 a tin now but we buy in quantity so that brings the price down a little. The worst thing is the five foot high bottle of c02 that we need to feed them.
  5. Air Pistol shooting is very demanding! My wife and children shoot air and love it, not like me, I find it too hard even though you're only a lousy 10 metres from the card. I prefer the other disciplines which are much easier to consistently shoot 10s. I put my wifes Feinwerkbau in a large vice and at 10 metres it is just one furry hole. They are extremely accurate!
  6. I'm lucky as I only live app 100 yards from our Pistol club and about 200 yards from the Claybird club. We have restrictions like not shooting before 7 am and after 8 pm. We are all shooters in this family so it suits us well. It is a National grade range so we cater for almost all disciplines and it's only 25 miles from the Capital. Shooting will always be in the sights of the Anti Gunners though.
  7. Just browsing on ebay and there is a cylinder arm machine, brand name Shangong (could be Chinese) and it appears it is left handed if you can go by the stitch adjuster's placement. I've never seen a left handed machine, has anyone else? ebay # is 110224032433.
  8. Thank you,Scouter. We never stop learning,do we?
  9. What part of the knife is the Choil? It's a word I'm not familiar with.
  10. If you don't screw them in tight the washer part will stick up a bit. I've never used "T" nuts where the prongs came right through the leather, the leather I've used has always been heavy enough for them not to protrude.
  11. I've used thousands of them and I just poke the female threaded part in the punched hole and wack it with a hammer to set the 4 prongs in the leather and then tightn the screw which pulls the 4 prongs in tighter!
  12. You are spot on! I agree 100% with what you have just said!
  13. Butts are usually a fair bit shorter than backs!
  14. There is one for sale down here, it was on Ebay last week and didn't sell, and they want $6000 for it and it looks to be in pretty good condition. Tony.
  15. And I totally agree with you as well as Art.

    Sharpening Stone

Where can you buy the attachment to fit to a bench grinder for sharpening round knives and what are they called or what name are they marketed under? Tony
  17. You need to be careful buying things on Ebay too. Some things I've bought and paid what I think is expensive postage but because the seller says it's correct I've paid it, only to find when it arrives the actual postage was half of what I paid. If I sell anything I take it to the post office and get a quote and that is what I charge the buyer! You can't take notice of what some pc generated costs to a destination tells you or use guess work. Postage ripoffs turn buyers away. I bought a splitter from Campbell Bosworth at Christmas time and the postage was $47.00 Prority, which I thought was ok and I think it weighed 15 pounds.
  18. I've got a 205 also and it will do anything I need it to do. I do have other machines set up for other jobs so I don't have to muck around changing thread etc but the 205 is good for just about any job. I have noticed that the old Singer 132 - k6 never gets mentioned here. The are a great old work horse, there must be thousands of them around, parts are available anywhere and they never seem to give me any problems, I have 3 of them and use them regularly.

    round knife

I've used a piece of 8 feet x 20 inches rubber conveyor belt for the last 10 years and it's been a good medium to cut on as I turned it over when one side was too bad but it has seen it's day and I just bought a new board, HDPE, 10 feet by app. 5 feet x by a quarter of an inch. It wasn't cheap, $234.00, but it is cheap compared to conveyor belt, which was $128.00 for the size I was already using. I haven't got around to putting it on the table yet but will this week.
  20. Yeah, all edged and creased by hand but my wife does the edge dying which I reckon is the very worst! You're right, they pay a lot of bills and it's the government's money so there are no worries about getting paid! Money is money and we all need it, don't we! I may even buy myself another machine with this lot. Well, I've had lunch so it's back to the workshop!
  21. I'm sick of the sight of belts this week. I just made 550 for our emergency services and I had to crease app. 5000 feet and edge about 10,000 feet. Just as well they are just plain and the only stamping on them is their size.
  22. No, Hilly, we don't farm them, don't need to! Even get them in outer suburban cities, evrywhere around here along with possums, they're a pest.
  23. Thanks, Johanna. No I don't have a Frappr acc.whatever that is! Sounds too hard for an oldtimer like me.
