Small bifold
JMcC replied to Bolanca's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Good job, I like the size. It's about the same size as the wallet I carry. -
Looks great Popo, would have liked to have seen some inside pics as well, but judging from what I see on the outside, you did a good job sir! Keep up the good work. James

Yin, great job on the figure carving sir. I have one small suggestion...the beveling on the horns where they meet the skull looks a little heavy to me. It gives the appearance that the horns are almost to the point of falling off. Just my opinion for what it's worth. Keep up the good work Yin! James

Firewalker, if I may...what stitching groover do you use and what do you use for punching the holes? Thanks for your time. James- 23 replies

LOL! -
I use a drafting table that I got for free. It is a 5 foot metal table with a wood adjustable top although I keep it flat. I can't find a manufacturer name but it looks like a Hamilton. I'm sure you could make your own table using the legs and a top as Earl Ash suggested if you don't want to purchase one already made. Good luck with your decision.

Hi Olfart, and welcome to the wonderful world of leather! There is a plethora of info here that is sure to help you in your new found interest.

I went to a flooring and countertop business here in town and bought a scrap piece of granite for around 8 bucks. They didn't have to cut it, so no extra charge for cutting. I was lucky as it was already a useable size (1 1/2" x 15' x 22') Check to see if anyone in your area that does that kind of work has any scraps that they would sell.

A Christmas/Birthday Belt
JMcC replied to JMcC's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Hmm, just a thought Alpha2...I believe that LW makes blades that will fit in a Tandy swivel knife. So, that would be less money spent for a better performing tool. The cost is $55 for a blade that will fit a Tandy barrel according to their website. That would be a considerable savings if budget is a constraint. And I too am a confessed tool junkie lol...probably shouldn't spend the money on a head knife either after hearing Yin's argument for cost effectiveness. -
I have to hand it to you, you are very inventive. Good job! I would never have dreamed of doing either of those things

Quick barrettes

Just a suggestion but those flowers would pop if they had some shading from a pear shader. I like the jewels in them...haven't seen that before. Good job! -
Those are sweet! Good job on all of them. Now send me one for free and I will advertise your product for you! (joke)

Looking good, now where did I put that 3 Musketeers? -
Good job and that looks like a "day of the dead" skull...I saw a coloring book in the store last week and all it had in it was different types of skulls for Day of the Dead. If I liked skulls, I would have bought it for using for leather work.

Thanks battlemunky Garypl, The steel that Paul uses in his swivel knives is far superior to anything Tandy has or ever will have and I only wish I had discovered LW's swivel knives when I started doing leather carving. Jbrandon, you are correct, I only beveled around the leaves and acorns. I debated about using a background tool but decided it would take up a lot of time and since I was going to dye the background anyway, I decided against it -

Yin, Here is a pic of the swivel knife. It has a 3/16" wide blade and make all the difference in the world for doing detail carving. Makes me wonder how I ever got along without it lol.
