  1. might try one of these also http://www.nea.gov/partner/state/SAA_RAO_list.html
  2. Yes Clay, nice enough. I just know how ornery you can be. I wish you could see this one in person. Compared to the classes we have taken together, I think you would be surprised at some of the depth in beveling I did on the mountains especially..... I surprised my self with it!
  3. Not sure about coloring it yet, I like the natural leather color so I may just lightly oil them and seal them with Skidmores.
  4. Well, I finally finished up the first of the panels for a box project I am working on. The box is 36"w x 22"H x 19"d. It's for me, a box I got years ago that I kept saying I was going to cover in leather, and am finally working on it. Some of the elements in the project are taken from Doodle pages (the trees, the general shape of the stream) and then the Scrolls I am sure you will all recognize as Robert Beards scrolls. The rest I made up. Even though some of it is from other places it is the first time I have tried to draw my own pattern. As it states in the topic this is the first of 6 panels for the box. All of them have a different scene on them. I am not good at floral carving at all so scenery carving is more forgiving. After I drew out all 6 panels and looked at what became the final drawing of them, I sat back and then thought.... OH Sh*t, now I have to carve them! From that time on my box project was affectionately named "What was I thinking" Clay & Kathy be nice, this is the one I was telling you about........
  5. Previously some one posted a link that gave the descriptions on comparing the different types of feeding systems on leather sewing machines. I was trying to refer some one to it and I can not find the link now... Help! Never mind, found it.
  6. Here are my instructions, Sorry no pictures yet as it is a bad essential tremor day and getting clear pictures is just not happening. Anne Newkold Braided Bracelet Tool and Material list: Strap Cutter used to make to cut a strip ½” wide 3/4 or 4/5 oz Leather Round end punch Edge Beveler Slicker Rotary punch 3/32 lace Lacing Needle Scalpel Barge Cement Carnauba Cream Soft Brush (like a shoe shine brush) Cut leather strip to ½” wide. Cut to length of the distance around your wrist. Using ½” round end punch to round both ends. Using smallest hole on your rotary Punch; punch you will make 2 holes in one end and 3 in the other approx. 5/16” apart. Use your Edger to bevel all the way around top and bottom side. Slick both end just past the inside holes. Put lace from the top side down through one of the inside holes and use Barge cement to glue down lace to backside of strap. Wrap lace tightly around strap. Keeping it pushed tightly together also. When you get to the end make sure to end with lace on the bottom. Bring it up through the closest hole. Now you will begin the braid. Go 3 rounds up and 3 back. Next go 3 rounds up and 2 back, bringing the needle to the center creating a V. Next and remaining go to the next free wrap up and two back with needle always coming out in the center. Always pull lace snug but do not buckle the wraps.Continue this until you get to the other end where you will make the last loop of 3 up tuck the end under 3 or 4 of the wrap and cut it off. Tuck any raw edge under. Coat with Carnauba cream and massage in until all of it is absorbed. As you are rubbing it in start shaping into the shape of a bracelet. For the fastener, I use a bead and a strip of the same lace. Cut a hole in the center of the lace near the end. Like making a Bleed knot. Feed the rest back through the hole to make a tab. Run the lace tail through the bead. Cut a slot close to the bead. Feed the lace through the very end hole where you have two holes at the end of the bracelet. Put the tail end through the slot below the bead. This forms your closure. At the end of the strip, cut to a point to ease going through the other side of the bracelet. Close to that end cut a slot in the middle of the lace to form an opening which will fit over the bead on the opposite side. Straps can be cut to any length or width you want as you have seen in other posts on this subject. I thought about making a belt that was 3 rows wide two out side row > and middle row< until I figured just how much lace that would be. You can use any width of lace making the width of the bracelet appropriate to look good. I have seen them done with 1 mm round lace that was 2 row\\ // to each.I will try to get pictures soon and add them to this when my hands are calmer. Anne
  7. When I did mine nothing but a leather strip in on the inside. Plan to have my tutorial posted by this evening on the one I did. Anne
  8. Yours turned out very cool! OMG! What a feeling! I have never inspired anyone to do anything before! What a THRILL! Sorry I had not got the tutorial posted yet. It needed some work and better pictures. After using what I had wrote up and had 3 people do it differently I knew my directions needed more work. Theirs was not wrong, just different. I will get mine up soon, that is as soon as I come down off the ceiling. I had planned to do one like your with the double row. I have also been working on one that is using the 1mm round lace where you do two \\// like this sort of. A single \/ did not look good. you can find some of the pictures from the guild meeting at http://www.myspace.com/theleathercraftguild in the pic section along with other memebers work.
  9. I am looking for this book if anyone can help me find one "Harue Yoshida's leather flower art book" only thing I can find doing a google search is her being mentioned in the Leder-Gild.
  10. I have several templates that Jeff made of Bob Beards patterns, they work great!
  11. Hope these are better pictures. One is the first braclet I made and then the barette. The other picture is the necklace I did in Rene's class and YES the stone is Leather too. the purple one is one that Clay made for me putting a concho in the middle.
  12. Thought I would respond to this during my break time real quick. When I worked at Hide Crafter I had the pleasure of seeing all of these original pieces that he did for the DVD's. And had the chance to take the Jewelry making class. Great teacher.
  13. Tom, they are not "through" the leather strap base, just wrapped around it and then back up the center. You will see in the tutorial I am working on. I thought it looked a bit like Shirleyz, when you posted your case. I thought about doing a belt this way until I figured out how much lace it will be! Going to do a Hat band instead soon. Clay, on the initial wrapping I do not do the "over, under" thing. so there is no center to go under. After it is wrapped it is just 3 up 2 back. You will see. Mine lays flatter against the wrapping than Rene's way of doing it. I made mine about a year before I took Rene's class. A friend named Jeff Leida in Tulsa OK showed me how to do it. He also made one with the smallest round lace you can get with done is double rows. As soon as I do one that way I will post it. I did take Rene's class on it to see how different he does his, plus how to make the leather stone. I will post a larger picture tonight when I get home. Thought I would answer this during my break time real quick.
  14. People use leather dust mixed with rubber cement to make a putty to fill in embossed areas such as animal heads, raised Scrolls. Ask Clay about using it I am sure he uses it quite a bit

  20. I do believe if you look through old doodle pages they have some that are all just decorative cuts. I will look through the ones I got when I get home if some one has not come up with anything by then for you.
  21. Tina, where do you get your patterns for these? Anne
  22. Tom, I would love the chance to come hang with you for a while! Would be quite entertaining with a group of us. I am sure your work is more impressive in person also! We could rock out listening to some metal and show off our leather craft, maybe even throw down a few brews. Anne
