  1. Sent you a pm..read it ..keep the email addy in it to yourself .. :) ..J has it..so do the mods.. Glad that you are around.. :) Mike :)
  2. If there was any kind of sealer used..or any possibility of any kind of sealer having been used..you'll have to "prep" or the new dye will not take evenly ( colour and finish and adherence will not be consistent )..and it will wear unevenly..which will become "your fault"..no matter what they say as to "I won't blame you if it doesn't work"..So..Prep..What colour dye are they asking for ? some things will be possible..others will not..and was it truly dyed black..If It was " dyed through" it should not expose the veg tan colour in wear areas, they'd just be black with a different texture or more or less "shine"..sounds more like it was only surface dyed or painted..The worn areas will have to be made black again, or when it all gets done ( dyed ) again they will show up as different colour or finish.. Of course you could talk them into a black and grey, or black and another dark dye colour "tie dye" effect or black and grey or another dark colour marble effect.. Kind of like some of the Heavy Metal Tee Shirts are .. I used to do loads of this kind of stuff on leather and textile..still do occasionally. But not as "re-dye"*, I have a lot of different "finishes". *I don't work on other people's work..( although I sometimes tear it apart to use some of it in up-cycling ) that way there are no nasty surprises for me :)
  3. You must have made an exception ( albeit that you may not have realised that was what you were doing..not all browsers use the word "exception" ) ..that message about the cert cert is neither cache dependent, nor cookie dependent..I have restarted this browser ( in which I only ever make temporary exceptions ) at least 10 times since the cert expired..and have restarted this machine 3 times since..the latest time was about three hours ago..( RAM use went to 97% so I "hard killed" the user session by hitting the power button without logging out..On machine and browser restart I got ( as expected ) "Firefox has blocked access to this site due to a problem with it's security certificate"..clicking "advanced" tells me that the "cert expired and the date upon which it expired ..and asks me if I want to make an exception..unfortunately even Firefox has "make this exception permanent" pre ticked, so it has to be un-ticked to proceed and get into the site. I believe that both Chrome ( on Linux, and Win(x) and MS Edge ( on Win (x) just ask "do you want to continue" or something similar ( maybe "do you trust this site" ) ..and if you click yes..then they add an exception..( without saying that is what they are doing ) and they make it permanent..Which means that it persists across browser sessions and shut downs..So you see what you are seeing. :) I'm running FF on linux on three computers which get the same result on connecting to here ( different versions of linux on each, and different versions of Firefox..two of them also use un googly "chromium" as a browser )..I have 12 computers in all..But the 3 win 7 machines in my "park" are not connected to the internet ...because life is too short :) In the red banner that Johanna put up at the top of each page a few days ago it says.. " We are working on the problem and expect to have it resolved soon. The site is not insecure. You can safely click past any security warnings. To get past the warnings in the 3 major browsers, proceed as follows... If you browse with Microsoft Edge, click on "Details" then on "Go on to the webpage." If you browse with Google Chrome, click on ADVANCED, then on "Click to proceed to (the webpage listed)." In Firefox, click on the Advanced button, then scroll down and click on "Accept the risk and continue." What you see in Firefox depends on the version that you are using..( mine do not say "accept the risk and continue" ) But..You must have done one of those actions in one of those browsers at some point, possibly before Johanna put that message up..each of those actions in effect creates an "exception"..but it does not say that is what it is doing.. Browsers hide a lot of the things that they are doing "under the hood" behind non techy messages.."click" is one of them. :)
  4. Fred ..If you have "made an exception"..you will get straight in and find the site marked as "not secure"....it is not a question of browser cache..If you marked that "make an exception" as "permanent"..Some browsers just "blow straight past" the "make a permanent exception" or "make a temporary exception" screen ( they do not give you a choice about temporary of permanent, they just default to permanent..very bad for overall security )..others do not. "Temporary" means for "current browser session"..you'll see "not secure" but be able to browse the site without getting additional warnings..until you shut the browser, and restart it..or shut the machine and restart it..then you'll get the cert warnings again .."permanent" means even if you switch the computer off and back on again, you'll get straight in, but you'll still see "not secure" in the address bar..
  5. Ah..Nope the 5550 that wiz just posted ( thanks wiz..saved me from "fuzzy brain" there :) is not the machine that I was thinking of..that has no "upper feed"..To add to wiz's point about running speed..the DLU490-4 has an oil bath in the base and an oil pump system that means it should be run fast..I occasionally run mine flat out ( about 3200 rpm I think it is )to get the oil pumping..and oil everywhere by hand too..But the DNU 1541 would definitely be better. Oh..and when you do get a machine..don't do like the guy at atlas levy does and when he he puts the tread through the tensions discs he puts it around the little pin that stops the two discs from spinning on themselves..he does it wrong ( and in doing so has steered so many people wrong ) the thread does not go around that little pin..I don't know if he does it on the video that Wiz embedded..( I didn't run the video, just saw the pre run "still"..But he ( the guy at atlas ) does it on at least one video "out there"..and it is wrong..puts waay too much tension on the top thread by using an incorrect thread path.
  6. My Juki DLU 490-4 has that same ( but much smaller and more compact ) "lever thing" near the needle..if is actually a sort of small "paddle" which if you press it puts the machine into reverse for as long as you are pressing it..My Juki also has top and bottom feed but not needle feed , so is not a triple action..the top feed is variable, controlled by a set of dials over to right of the machine, one of which is connected to a separate foot pedal ..The dials allow you to set the amount of variable top feed ..and the secondary pedal allows you to vary the amount of that variation as you sew..But the machine is for middle to heavy work ..foot lift by lever ( at the rear of the needle like usual ) is to 9mm..by the knee lifter is 14mm..takes needles upto #25..I have run 207 through it with no problem at all..goes easily through 3/8 ( 9mm ) of veg tan.. Normally it would be too fast for leather..but it has an Efka control box ( NPS etc ) clutch motor, which allows for automated "back tack" at start and end of seam to lock the stitches down..and other fancy stuff..and can be dialled down very slow for a clutch motor..came with a 70mm pulley..I switched it for a 50mm..with no additional speed reducer it can be "feathered" to about one stitch every 3 seconds..Apparently a lot of people use them for sewing heavy tarps..the upper variable drive feed feet come with teeth that grip and pull fabric well..you can adjust it to pull leather with no "slip" between two layers..A triple compound feed is still better for leather..But if you are sewing tarps and covers it would probably suit you . Heel back on main pedal to "needle up". Mine was originally 3 phase..but runs on mono phase by using a capacitor to deliver a "false phase" to the Efka motor and by being wired differently. If you are lucky you can get them for a few hundred.. As always many thanks to Eric ( gottaknow ) who pointed me to the user manual and the service manual..It was actually looking for information on the Efka control box and the variable feed dials on the machine head that bought me to Leatherworker.net. It now has company with other machines.. a 29k pedal patcher...a 20u zig zag ..a 211U166 triple compound feed ( with servo and reducer ) and some others..including a pedal singer from the 50s and some "artisanal" machines that do a very nice triple step zig zag .. One can never have too many machines :) edited to add..The Juki also came with automatic thread cutters built into the bed..but as I didn't like the threads being cut off so short I removed the knives..and I never use the "auto back tacking" at beginning and end of seams so I switched that off..The shaft on the Efkas is tapered ( and has a "keyway" )..as is the shafts on the Singer 1750 rpm clutch motors ( although I don't think the have a "keyway" ..and my Singer 1750clutch motor is dismounted and in a cold room ATM..so I'm not going to go look for at least another 3 months. :)..My reverse touch paddle system is much smaller than the one in your photo..but I'm pretty sure that is what yours is too..I'll try and get a photo of mine to add to this thread later..the Machine is on the unheated veranda ATM and the light is fading here ( 17.36 hrs )..Electric light is at the other end of the veranda..maybe tomorrow..it has been a long day .. as the typos in this post that I keep spotting bear witness to.. There is indeed a more recent Juki ( might be the 5550, but honestly tiredness makes certainty elusive ) which is more or less the same machine, uses the same feet and some other parts..I do have the more modern version reference noted somewhere other than my tired ( today ) brain..If I find the note I'll post the machine model if no one else does so first.. HTH :)
  7. textile machine..no use at all for leather..
  8. Price probably jumped due to increase in tariffs by USA against Chinese manufactured goods..which of course only "hurts" the Chinese manufacturers..or so it is said. ;) I think that the Durkopp 541 would max out at 138 on top and not even sure if it would get up that far..might max at 92 top and bottom .. I know someone who has one..but he is on holiday for at least the next 15 days ..so I can't confirm..
  9. Some the Juki industrial line up many with all the lCDs and automation that you could want.far more than on domestic machines.. Apparel Juki Industrial Apparel Machines Leather flat beds Juki Industrial Leather Machines..flat bed models You'll find more such as cylinder models etc in the side navigation there..Adler and other manufacturers have similar..and machines can be made for specific applications
  10. I hope not.. I have auto thread cutting , auto back stitching to lock threads at the beginning and end of runs on my old Juki DLU 490-4.. I have removed the auto thread cutting and disabled the auto backstitching etc.. re the LCD panels, automation etc..those are available on high speed garment industrials..and on some of the "non clone" heavy duty machines.. When they ( the LCD panels, or the circuit boars and chip, or the automation )go wrong..replacing them can cost half the cost of a new version of the same machine..and parts such as these are rarely "in stock" and have to come from.. China..and that means..that just like almost everything at the moment..it is gonna be a long long wait..as the factories are shut..due to Covid 19..and that could happen again..and again..and again etc If you bring manufacturing "home"..allow for 3 to 5 years minimum to set up the factories..tooling up and training skilled workers to make what is used to make the machines.. Where were they made ?..Where are the spare parts for them held ? ..China.. Cross your fingers that nothing more than a needle breaks on them..otherwise you'll be in for a very very long wait.
  11. As I posted in your other thread concerning this .. Just make sure that you have the right ( legal right ) to use the photo ( to make a stamp or a whatever ) that you made your stamp from..because the photo will be copyright...the "right to use" will have been signed over to you ( with probably limitations ) by the copyright owner of the photo.."Found it" on the internet does not count as legal right to use to make a stamp, to emboss leather or to use in "whatever" way..If you took the photo ( you are the photographer, and have the copyright, unless it was a "work for hire"..for an agency etc ) it is cool..if not..it is abuse ( kind of like theft, for profit ) of someone else's copyright* ( intellectual property ) photo..and is illegal. *Which a lot of people in the USA , and elsewhere, complain , even make laws, tweet, and impose tariffs about, when they say other individuals or businesses, in other countries do it..
  12. I just ran tracepath ( to get the ping times ) ..the "bottleneck" from to connection from France is when it hits the first connection in the USA.. I removed my local "hops"( numbers 1 to 10 ) "hops" inside France with "ping times" 10: be4204.ccr32.par04.atlas.cogentco.com 20.393ms asymm 7 11: be2067.ccr31.par04.atlas.cogentco.com 21.657ms asymm 8 12: ae-29.r04.parsfr01.fr.bb.gin.ntt.net 18.479ms asymm 9 "hops" in Europe with "ping times" 13: ae-23.r24.amstnl02.nl.bb.gin.ntt.net 40.841ms asymm 12 14: ae-3.r25.amstnl02.nl.bb.gin.ntt.net "hops in USA with "ping times"..note it takes a long time for the first US node to reply to my ping..then the other nodes in the US are also long to reply. 15: ae-5.r23.asbnva02.us.bb.gin.ntt.net 104.280ms asymm 12 16: ae-10.r22.snjsca04.us.bb.gin.ntt.net 175.551ms asymm 20 17: ae-19.r01.snjsca04.us.bb.gin.ntt.net 160.096ms asymm 21 18: ae-1.a01.snjsca04.us.bb.gin.ntt.net 165.471ms asymm 21 19: ae-0.endurance.snjsca04.us.bb.gin.ntt.net 172.999ms asymm 20 20: eth4-33-4.prvspn002.net.unifiedlayer.com 182.969ms 21: po99.prv-leaf3b.net.unifiedlayer.com 176.566ms The problem is not the site here itself..( the webmaster ( J ) is as innocent as Richard Kimble :) the problem is with the US "legs" of ntt.net.
  13. Does your drill press "head" not pivot out to one side to allow drilling of items that are too big ( tall ) to fit onto the "table" ? Agreed..very nice looking press there Constabulary :)
  14. Hah :)) ..another with memories of a 3 button keyboard..( 0.1.enter..space key being a luxury ) :) Shoe boxen of punch cards ..which, after the 1st "drop" had a diagonal stripe along the card backs and sequentially numbered cards..and having to wait over a week ( while the machine that we were allocated some time on ran what we had programmed ) to see if we had made any mistakes.. Guy who taught me remembered doing it all with diodes, light bulbs and wires etc.. Speaking of some of those who taught us and those who led the way etc ..we post upon the shoulders of the greats and the giants.. Katherine Johnson and Larry Tesler
  15. All of the "rare earth" magnets are susceptible to fracturing from stress or shock or pressure..such as when applying pressure during stamping. Better ( in most cases* ) than a "sleeve" would be to drill and tap the ram "upwards" centered from the bottom face, so that you can then use a threaded "insert" with the various items ( stamps etc ) that you want to apply the pressure onto attached via threaded shafts.. *In the case of a large area stamp.. a sleeve with re-enforced flanging would help to spread the force.. Likewise drilling and tapping "the round thingy" to accept threaded "female" parts ( such as for riveting / stud placing ) is also worth doing..If you do make a flat replacement..make it with an adjustable rear "fence" ( calibrated ) so as to be able to place holes or whatever at the same distance each time..I think that Brian ( or maybe someone else ) has posted about such an arrangement in the past..Might have been in relation to stamping letters to make a name or names on a belt.
  16. You'll note that in my post above , I specifically said that I was not "the only one".. If you seriously think that letsencrypt ( you have seen who is behind it ? ) is remotely like any "free SSL cert for Chinese data mining"..you might want to drop your biases and do some research outside of FOX et .. Running a website ( singular ) and repairing computers in a computer shop ( self owned or salaried ) and as "bench technician" does not an IT expert one make.. But , I'll grant you ..you have probably seen more Win(x) infections that I have ( since MS released Win10..at which point after being on the "inside track" and seeing where the spyware was going I removed it from all webfacing boxen, and no longer support / fix win 10 machines ) ..knowing how / why they ( malware ) work and being able to write them ( for various OS systems ) is another matter. :) You only ever help anyone for money..never out of just plain helpfulness ..? Most of the world's major websites and IT systems run ( and have run for the past 3 to 4 decades ) on FOSS..Windows and or Mac ( Apple ) systems are only dominant on the desktop machines /systems that come preloaded with retail purchased computers..or due to "Office" and "Adobe" products et al.. Android / Apple / IOS are merely the latest versions of ( using variants of what was originally FOSS ) and slathering layers of code obfuscation onto it in order to make a more "locked down environment"..which of course comes with "stores" which take a large percentage of any monies that the actual coders would like for their apps. If users knew what they had on their systems..and sanitised them..the ad clicking ( knowingly or via their infected ad clicking OSs ) internet would come to a halt overnight as all the bot nets would wither and die..Not to mention all those ads that the advertisers pay for that are displayed ( paid for display ads run by G and other ad networks ) coded to be so far out of the view screen area that they may aswel be in another universe ) Google would lose 90% of it's valuation and ad agency customers ( who buy the ad slots on Google for their befuddled customers ) overnight would lose 99% of their customers.. Users do not "think"..ads and the internet driven by ads ( and the ad industry ) does not want them to think..it wants them to use their "lizard brain"..the part that does things for reasons that they have no idea about ..it wants them to react..it knows that they are driven by basic "lizard brain" drives.. I was also involved in the "ad industry" for many years..you'd be amazed / horrified how easy it is to manipulate the lizard brain in humans..the internet just extended / expanded "our/ their" reach and influence in all areas, commercial, political etc ..massively..
  17. J..as always ..you are more than welcome :)..
  18. letsencrypt is truly FREE..no strings..no catches.. I've been doing this ( "internetish" stuff , coding ( since fortran, COBOL, et al ) for over 5 decades..and I'm not the only one here.. Nope..in this case ..""you" are not the product""..it is like FOSS..just like the linux and / BSD that all my web-facing machines run. You never heard of the "facebook /twitter / android/ iphone generation" ? ..In which case ...Bless :) You really think "they" know what the shiney does..and why.. or care..they jus wannit now..ferfree..nfast..ortheylbitch on twitter or facebook aboutit.. If this site had to depend on only "the regulars"..J would have had to "fold it" a long time ago* ( ..before you, or I had found it, or had the chance to find it, the site hosting is not cheap, nor is the forum software..so we would not have found it**.. :) capiche ? The blue under the "nicks" helps..as do the entirely unpaid mod team and friends. *I know how much the site hosting costs..and the hassle of running a non pre moderated UGC site.. Or continue to do like many of us do.. Run sites** "just because".. I run some purely informative sites ( no ads , no aff stuff at all " just because"..the same reason as why I stop for people with a flat tire/ tyre, or because they have their thumb up at the side of the road.. And some others with ads..and some others pure commercial..and some others pure "portfolio".. The list of posters here that I can think of who post "just because"..abhandmade, Constabulary, Jimi, Eric, RockyAussie..the list would go on and on and on ( apologies to all those whom I have left off ) and on..posting to help, not for any ulterior motive .. Most posters here ..in addition to the above..seem to think the same way..
  19. Fortunately for yourself..China is experiencing "temporary difficulties"..or it would be on sale, chrome plated and possibly with LEDs on it somewhere , and maybe an animatronic talking parrot doing acrobatics* on it ( inc free shipping ) for under $10.00 within 7 days**.. *other models, including miniature animatronic monkeys, "pole dancers" or miniature Cirque du Soleil performers would be available for a small supplement..including music..and possibly bluetooth. Good luck..the "window of opportunity" is short...I ( and probably the Chinese ) would make the entire thing in plastic ( ABS ) to keep the weight down for shipping.. **We've seen that happen before here with "valet trays"..
  20. Yes that is easy..But..that means that the connection is unsecured..and many will "back out" and go elsewhere.. You have to hit "advanced" to know that is just an expired cert..Non tech people just get frightened that the site may have been hacked and back out. Plus..when you ( the website owner/ webmaster ) pay for an "extended cert"..( around $200.00 to $300.00 per year you expect to get renewals taken care of.. Hence my suggestion to use letsencrypt..keeps everyone encrypted..and doesn't get affected by weekends, or hosters who forget to set up the cron job.
  21. Been seeing the same..suggest using https://letsencrypt.org/ Free..and auto-renews at 90 day intervals..

  23. @Toon1954.. Beter is het om Engels te gebruiken...Het deel wordt door de Constabulary in zijn commentaar ( met foto ) verderop genoemd... Feb 16.. "Maybe not too important but just for the records. I finally have found OEM Singer Bell Crank Levers (both #82167) with different dials." "Misschien niet al te belangrijk, maar alleen voor de records. Ik heb eindelijk OEM Singer Bell Crank Levers (beide #82167) met verschillende wijzerplaten gevonden." Mijn Nederlands is niet goed ... excuseer mijn fouten... weer beter om Engels te gebruiken.
