Thank you all for your very nice comments:-) I love trying to come up with new ideas (if possible) or redraw old patterns to make something newer and hopefully more interesting, sometimes you win, and sometimes you loose *S* I have a few new things on the workbench I hope to get done by this week, I just hope it will work the way it's intended...

2 Elisabethan swordfrogs. One with an authentic patterns from a viking church (all wood) in Norway. The other frog is just basket weave stamped and dyed i 3 different colors, greenish at the middle, then brown and finallly black around the edges. All dye is applied with airbrush. The last piece I just finished is a scroll holder. I tooled an old Scandinavian/north western European map from around 1630-ish I found online. All colors is spirit dyes except for the small details in black and white wich is acryllic paint. I did not manage to get a good picture (yet) of the top lid but that one also has a compass in black and white carved & tooled. I hope you enjoy :-)

I have 2 bearMan Mauls I simply love to use, one 9 oz and the bigger 18 oz if I remember right...The Maul I'm using to make heave impressions such as a makers mark but also other "hard to impress" tools, holes etc. is the wooden one in the picture. My guess that one weighs around 2 kilo (+4 pounds) I found it on Swedish Ebay some time ago.

Hi, I use spirit dyes and I always use them before paint, now you can "slab around" with the dyes as much as you want with that wool thingie. Paint is usually going on the leather with a brush so these steps makes sence to me. Also, the dyes take away the oils in the leather and make the paint bond better. When all is dry I use Neatfoot oil to replace what disapeard in the dye process. Best of Luck//Tina

Me like Now you only need to handpaint some details on the piece in red to match the tartan. -
You can use a mulefoot tool and make all the scales individual, it will improve the look :-)

Beautiful work as usual Bob, You're a true master of this craft and I enjoy looking at your creations -
When I use bevellers I have 5 that always comes out of the tool stand. The two smallest ones in a serie. A big broad one for all those pesky long straight lines. I then have two pointed bevellers, one original and one that I have modified to a smaller size (around half of the original size). With this bunt I can bevell any pattern. I hope this gives you some inspiration//Tina

Pink Dye
Tina replied to Dorafo's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
Angelus has a pink spirit dye that works great. The different amount of reducer you use will give you as manny shades of pink you like, all from very hot pink to suttle baby pink. The call the color "Light Rose" and the swatch at the web page does not give the true color, it's much more vivid in real life. I can go down later on today and make a swatch for you and shade it from one end to the next :-) http://turtlefeathers.net/text/angelus/dye.html
