  1. Looking good, stitching wallets is always hard as you need to get both sides looking the same which is not easy at the best of times, but on a wallet it is even harder.Great work, looking forward to seeing the inside pics.Have you considered trying turned edges, here is a picture of one i did with turned edges, not trying to hijack the thread just putting ideas to you. Take care.http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?app=galleryℑ=28437
  2. Hi windrider, have you thought about airbrushing on to the leather, maybe a nice sunburst effect or even stenciling.
  3. It does make you worry for someone who might place an order with this guy, totally out of line. If he really is a christian he will not be going to heaven behaving like this.
  4. Hello rusticbob, there is nothing wrong with that , i bet your dad will love it, you seem to be on the right track. I too have only been leatherworking for a short time, it is indeed a very rewarding thing to do.Keeps us on the sraight and narrow.
  5. Welcome to the forum, you have some very nice pieces of work on there, this is a very good forum.
  6. I think you can pay for expidited shipping on goods japan. If that helps
  7. Could not agree more on the book recommendation.
  8. I have to say, i was suprised how much money i have had to spend on tools for leathercraft, when you set out you think all you need is a knife, ruler, and needle and thread. Boy was i ever wrong.
  9. Hey Huns, this is looking fantastic, kids would love it, in fact anyone would love it,i am definitely not a kid anymore and i love it.
  10. Hey Martin, i really enjoyed your website , you are a real craftsman. Sorry for getting the wrong end of the stick, nothing new for me. I am starting to thinkk maybe along the lines of a clicker press type of idea. You might not need to buy an expensive version, i have heard of people having a die made and then using a cheap hydraulic type of press with it. This way the leather will stay where it is.This way you would just stamp out the piece rather than cutting it.In fact thinking about it, if you were only using it for that thickness of leather you might get away with quite a light duty type of press.I am off now to enjoy some more of that beautiful music on your website.
  11. I assume this is for lining something, can you not glue it to the piece first and then trim it to size after, sorry if it is not for lining something.
  12. Hey everyone, just thought i would mention something i just tried. I was having trouble finding suppliers of wallet window material over here in the UK, and was trying to find something i could use to make a bus pass holder with a window, my wife suggested using laminating pouches, so i ran one through the machine without anything inside it, and guess what?it is perfect and does the job with no problems whatsoever. Just thought i would pass on the tip in case anyone else has the same problem. Take care.
  13. I do wish people would stop posting work of this standard, it makes me feel so inadequate , but seriousley this is stunning work, thanks for sharing.
  14. Thanks benlilly, that is very interesting to know, i really hope he can give us mere mortals some insight into how he creates these amazing poeces, take care.
  15. I need to have a go at this, i once saw Nigel Armitage do something sinilar on his facebook page, but i cannot find it again, anyway thanks for the inspiration.Take care.
  16. Samar , this work blows my mind, please could you give a little insight into how you do this, in particular the dyeing, i feel depressed now, just when you think you are getting somewhere with your leathercraft someone always posts something incredidible like this an d shoots me right back down to earth, boy do i have a long way to go, hope i live long enough to get this good. Is one lifetime enough?lol.
  17. Hey verus this is truly beautiful work, it turns an ordinary belt into something truly special, how did you mark it out and draw the design please? Is the belt lined, can we have a pic of the back please?
  18. Hi jiri, check out hidepounders tutorial on edge finishing, his edges are incredible. Hope it helps. As mentioned above, when i mentioned lining the piece i was not really meaning with cloth, more something like pigskin. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=18101
  19. I always worry about responding to people who have asked for opinions about items they have made and hope that anything i say comes across as trying to be helpful rather than critcicism for the sake of being mean. So here goes, i think this is a perfectly nice item you have made first of. As you have asked if it is up to selling standard i would say that it could be improved upon in thre ways.(1) It would be nicer if it was lined inside, but that is only ny opinion of course.(2)From what i can see on the photo it appears that the edges have not been burnished, sorry if i am incorrect, you might even consider turned edges.(3)While your stitching is fine, it might benefit from a more trsditional slanting type saddle stitch, i am not sure how you have marked your stitching out, but i would say it would be more appealing if it had that slanted look. All this is subjective and merely my own opinion, but as you did ask i assumed you wanted honesty so that is what i have given you. Please do not take offence as i really am trying to help. I am no expert myself just a hobbiest so my opinions are just that.
  20. Sorry Chelsea, i know nothing about sewing machines as i hand stitch everything, i could not help but tell you how fantastic your shoes look though.
  21. Hello Walesy, and welcome to the forum, in my opinion you will need to buy a lot of other tools before a sewing machine unless that is what you really want, most of the items you say you want to make can be hand stitched, and remember a hand stitched saddle stitch is actually a stronger stitch than the hook stich of a sewing machine, do you already have all the other leatherworking tools? Here is a link to a video by master leather craftsman Nigel Armitage for some inspiration, he also has many other fantastic videos on you tube about hand stitching, now do not get me wrong i am not saying there is anything wrong with sewing machines for leatherworking, just that is is not the only way. In my own opinion if hand stitching is good enough for Nigel then it is good enough for me. I do not know a lot about sewing machines but i do know that you cannot use an ordinary domestic type, you need a much more heavy duty type and they do not come cheap.
  22. This is fantastic, is the nose wetmoulded over a wood last like when i do pouches and the like, please post pics of the finished bag, please, please ,pretty please.
  23. Sorry about that Rooster, this is what i meant to post.
