Sharpening Or Polishing Stitching Irons, Pricking Irons Or Chisels
JAZZMAN replied to YinTx's topic in Leather Tools
Hi yin, you might want to try emailing Nigel Armitage about this, i know on some of his review videos he mentions polishing his pricking irons, he has always helped me out in the past. -
WOW,WOW,and WOW again, josie your animal accessories are breathtaking , i have never seen such beautiful and imaginative dog and cat collars, animal owners must be knocking your door down to own them, i am so glad you have joined the forum you are an inspiration to someone like me who has only just started out on my journey into the world of leathercraft. Thank you for the inspiration, i hope you post a tutorial of how you create these amazing works of art, your familly must be very proud to have such a wonderful artistic spirit as a daughter, take care , hope to talk again real soon. Peace.

Hi Phillip, not entirely sure i understand your problem, but i do know that someone on here advised using craft felt instead of paper for mock ups, although not exactly like leather it behaves more like leather than paper and staples, you can glue the pieces together rather than stapling. Can you post a picture of the problem, i am not very experienced in leatherwork but have made bags with gussets and so might be able to help, here is a picture of a bag with a gusset i made my wife recently, both front and back pieces were cut from the same template, but i might be misunderstanding your problem. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?app=gallery&album=2647

Mark this really does look quite nice, very luxurious looking leather, some people would cahrge a lot of money for such an item, great work. -

My First Belt
JAZZMAN replied to Avion's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Thank you Avion for taking the time to reply to my post, i have looked them up on tandy, i think it might be a E294-03 Craftool Stamping Tool , is this correct?, it would be great if you could tell me as i fancy having a go at this design if you do not mind me pinching your idea, i am quite new to leathercraft and need all the ideas and inspiration i can get, thanks again for the help. Take care. -
Hello mrs Ogre, here are a couple of you tube links yo might find interesting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uP0BfZcZ4vU Sorry if you have seen them already, or they are not what you were after, i too am also in the market for an airbrush mainly just for creative dyeing rather than any intricate artwork, what kind of spraying were you hoping to do with it? Oh and it is nice to see someone else on here from the UK.

JAZZMAN replied to Avion's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Avion , this is incredible for your first belt, the way you have used those simple stamps to get such a nice looking design is an inspiration, i wish i could see the border work better to see what you did there, maybe a closer picture please? -
I can think of nothing better than cruising along those roads on that bike, take care my friend and ride safe.

Hey Shadow i miss my bikes man but due to a disability i can no longer ride, i remember a guy called sifty who was in the gypsy hawkes, belive he died sadly, i believe they were based in north wales if my memory is not playing me up, i live i huddersfield, it used to be a great place for bikers. Bikes stay in the blood , even when you can no longer ride.

Hey Shadow, you nailed it man. I imagine it can be quite hard to tune in to what a customer sees inside their head, but you definately captured the mood with this one, i love the braiding work, hope the customer likes it too.

Hi ,so i made a wristband for my wife, i did not add any treatment to the inside of the strap but it still makes her arm itch, has anyone else had this problem and did they solve it. I know the obvious solution is to line it but with what, i tought about some sort of cloth but worried about the edges looking bad where the join would be, any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hey mungo, i am newish to leatherwork, but i believe you would normally add oil to a piece after dyeing but before adding finish. I think it helps when leather has dried out due to the dyeing process.

The thread is ritza 25 tiger thread. Hey suprize have you thought about buying belt blanks for the belts and maybe a thinner shoulder for wallets and the like. Also you could do with a stitching pony if you do not have one already.

Hi Sean, i recently finished a ladies saddle bag for my wife, so similar to a satchel, i made the main body of the bag from 2 to 2.5 shoulder, and the gusset from 1.5 to 2mm shoulder so it was a bit easier for bending and turning for the stitching bend. Both shoulders were from Metropolitan leather and were fantastic. The finish on the back of their leathers is so good you do not have to line it if you can keep it clean while you make the bag. Also if you ring metropolitan they are happy to send you samples, i think they are a great company. As suggested above you might consider using pre dyed also which they do, if you need any more info about Metropolitan do not hesitate to ask, good luck.

Well, i am off for a bath now(sorry if that is a bit too much info), but it was nice to meet you Gill, hope we can chat again soon maybe in the chatroom on this forum later on of you can make it. I have been complaining that there are not enough English leaherworkers around here, so it will be fab if you can stay around here as a fellow Yorkshire leathercrafter. Take care and bye for now.

I too get a bit disillusioned when i see work of this calibre , absolutely stunning.

I have got into leatherwork because of a disability which affects my mobility, i played jazz and blues guitar for 40 plus years but can no longer play in bands and the like, i also had to give up work. So after feeling sorry for myself for a few years i realized i needed a new outlet for my creative energy. When i was very young i got into a bit of trouble with the law and was sent to a kind of attendance centre as punishment, it actually turned out to be great as we did leatherwork and glasswork so after doing a bit of research on you tube and buying a couple of books i decided to give it a go and i have to say i am truly hooked on it. Just before i scare you off that was the one and only time i ever got into trouble with the law , i have been a perfect angel for the last 39 or so years. How about you? Sorry when i say how about you i was asking how you got into leatherwork, not if you had ever been in any trouble, lol.

Also Gill, if you fancy a good chat about leatherwork, i have been going on chat near to midnight lately, leatherwytch and double c and squrelly have been on at that time and we have a good old chat and a laugh, you should join us if you want.
