  1. I'll take it. Pm already sent.
  2. I believe it was 2"s. It has a stamp on it from crain\crane (spelling?). That is a floor tool provider. They may make hand planes, but I haven't ever seen one. I picked it up off a shelf at work collecting dust.
  3. I know you normally work with derlin. Do you do any brass or steel stamps?
  4. I have mostly abandoned this tool. I have some better cutting utensils these days. I have never heard about the edge reflecting light theory before. I will put that to use. It reminds me of when I got my knipknife. I couldn't see the edge under a magnifying glass. It is very very sharp.
  5. It is coming along nicely. I'm glad to see someone having time for the bench.
  6. He is a member of a master's guild, so I listen to his opinion. When I first started I was making a groove. But I was also using a hole punch to make my holes. Now I just scribe a line. Then use chisels.
  7. Welcome aboard. Have fun.
  8. It's like him tragacanth, but works better. Although, I like the smell of gum trag better. And there isn't anything wrong with your bag. It looks really great.
  9. I would look at the crimson hide line of chisels. They are made like awl blades (tapered diamond). I plan to purchase some in the future. Check out Nigel's video.
  10. No, but with a glass slicker it comes out pretty good. It doesn't take too much elbow grease either. Stuff smells a little like Elmer's glue.
  11. What's to critique? It looks great. If anything at all, maybe smoothing the flesh side down. I use tokonole for that. You can get it from Rocky Mountain Leather Supply in the States.
  12. Hexnhit offers made to order stamps in any font that you can use legally. Leodis Leather and Nigel at Armitage Leather both have nice reviews for them. They are not cheap, but they are an affordable custom investment. I suggest watching Nigel's video first, then if interested Leodis's for more detail. I plan to purchase some someday.
  13. Hahahaha!!! I dumped a small bottle of purple one day. My vinyl plank floor passed the test though. A little denatured alcohol and a rag had it cleaned up in no time.
  14. Most folks just scribe a line. A groove tends to over power the zig zag of the saddle stitch. Paraffin wax tends to be a little more slick than beeswax. You shouldn't have to do any honing on the chisels. Just put something over the leather to hold it down as you pull the chisel out. Leodis Leather can be found using his bone folder for this in his videos.
  15. I'm throwing in my .02. If I had it to do over again, I would order the crimson hide chisels\irons. They are a hibred of chisels and pricking irons. Nigel has a great video about them. I may still do it over again.
  16. If you are going to sale anything, it will always turn into work. What gives with no pic???
  17. Neat. China will be making them soon enough.
  18. I won't say Tandy doesn't have a place. When I was grief stricken over the loss of our little boy, their brick and mortar location was there to help me get started in leather. That got my hands moving again. I will always be thankful to them for that. But nowadays I get my fiebings from the saddle repair shop. He has lots of colors in stock. And to be totally honest, I haven't tried any of the Eco flo products. I started with pro dyes and haven't needed a change yet. It's not like they are too expensive. Even at Tandy prices, dye is affordable.
  19. Hear Hear!!! Notice it's always near the back?
  20. Well, I'm happy y'all are here. Nstar, you have passed along some good advice and some great deals since I have been here. Thanks for sharing the wealth. I wouldn't worry about anyone's opinion about my business. You are employing people and continuing a profitable business. Being an artist, and being a business owner are two totally different things. And I know from experience, being an artist is much easier. And I'm not saying you aren't an artist, you're obviously both. I think you're doing a great (also big ) job. Anywho, there is much less drama and brand snobs here than any other type of forum I have frequented in the past. Please don't let a few bad apples spoil your barrel.
  21. You are awesome.
