Since it comes with diamond chisels the awl is not all important in the beginning. These chisels are designed to punch thru multiple layers of leather.

I know my questions are getting a little tiresome. Sorry. Are there any major advantages of one machine over the other? I can't find much info on the Seiko, so there's that.....

Did you use the Dremel method. My wuta pricking irons finally came today, but I was about half lit when I got home. Oh yeah great job, they look really slick.

This looks like a good little kit to get you started. 1st thing. Learn how to sharpen. Probably none of those tools (or most tools for that matter) are sharp enough for leather out of the box. It's just part of the hobby. Al Stohlmans "Leather tools how to use them how to sharpen them" is a great resource. Good luck.

So, this is where our dealers step in and add smooth feed dogs?

The Dremel is a good idea. I've never used mine enough to work it into my tooling mindset.

I a set just like them from Co link in 4mm. So far, they are still my favorite cheap ones. Someone with your tools and skill should be able to spiff them up in short order.

So, I have been watching these auctions for sewing machines and it has produced a few questions...... Do all 206rb come with smooth presser feet and feed dogs from the factory? Or is this something that our leather machine vendors install on the dealer level? And after finding the little I could about a 733r I have to ask are smooth feet and feed dogs available for this machine. I have done my due googling diligence but found nothing. And finally do any machines 441s, 227s, 1206s, 206s, 1541s, and so on come from the factory with smooth presser feet and feed dogs? Thanks for your patience.

I was in a hurry when I posted that video. I thought the neatsfoot oil for coloring might be of interest to you. Everyone cautions against using a lot of it. I have been leary of it because of these comments, but this Andrews guy is a really well known holster maker. And he slathers it on pretty heavy before sun tanning them. Ymmv -
I understand your pain. I'm not there yet either. I had some one point out to me the best way to get there. Pick one item. Bracelets, card wallets, key fobs, anything small. And make that over and over until you perfect it. Boring, I know. But it will get you there faster with less material. I started out doing completely different one offs. I was always forgetting a step or doing something in the wrong order. It was wasteful.

Repition is the key. If you are just trying to hone stitching. Grab some scrap and burn thru some thread till you get it down. Making a lot of the same small item over and over will help you hone everything without burning up a lot of material.

He's pretty good about it. He lets you know it will take awhile. I have several of his templates. I like them quite a bit. The wait isn't that bad, if you know it's part of the deal up front.

Great job on the stitching. Looks like you got it. -
I just started using it myself so I don't know, but I like the idea of braided polyester with a continuous filament. Maybe set them both outside in the sun for a month. That may or may not make a difference.

What does the thickness run?

Hahahaha. I imagine they are difficult to legally harvest. And once they fall over maybe they can only get half the hide.
