Cool idea. I'm glad to see your work area looks like mine.

I have mostly shyed away from stamping because of being worried about messing up my piece. After a lot of searching I came across this little press in the .5 ton variety. It's not a great press. It's made in China these days and has some slop to it. I can deal with that for a hobby and a sticker price of just under 60 bucks. One of the cool things about it is it already has a dye hole drilled into the ram and it comes with three dyes I will probably never use. Kudos to Amazon for some super fast shipping. Now when I opened it up I checked all of my border type stamps against the hole in the ram. Nothing fit. That's ok. Recently Tandy came out with this handy little dye set for their letter and pictorial dyes. It retails for about 30 bucks, I think. So, I picked one up figuring I would have to do something to make it fit into the press. Turns out they fit perfectly into the ram. It's such a spot on fit the the little ball catch on the dyes hold them in place. I thought about drilling a hole in the ram for the ball catch but the largest dye will need to rotate to accommodate the foot to stamp fitting. Now I just need to make a proper base plate and referencing fence of some sort. Since this press fits this dye set, I can only assume it will fit Tandy's other dyes. But man are they expensive. I hope this helps someone in the same boat as me.

Sometimes at work I have to make a pattern bigger or smaller for sink cutouts. Just take a ruler or tape measure and keep it square (perpendicular) to the line you want to replicate. Make a mark. Move the ruler along the line making a mark every few centimeters. Then just connect the dots. It's tedious, but it works.

I think it's fine, really. I just have an eye for catching those things. I wish I had the talent to correct them. I'm sure you will improve. Be proud. You made it and that's definitely more than I did.

Well, keep up the good work. I shy away from tooling as much as possible. After 20 years in construction I'm sure I'm in the onset of some major arthritis. 15 minutes of tooling doodles just sends my fingers and hands into fits. It's not really my bag anyway, though.

That amp turned out awesome. And I haven't seen the tankards before. How are they at staying water tight? And how are you keeping them that way, beeswax?

It looks good. I'm not much of an artist and less of a carver. But my wife is an art teacher so I observe a lot of pieces. I apologize for not being able to tell you exactly how to fix it, but here is what I see needs to be addressed. The foreground all the way to the Boatman looks great. But, something in the background is causing the image to become flat. Maybe making the water gradually get darker could be the fix, or tapering the trees in the back more. I'm not sure. It's something in the perspective. But it is a great effort. I hope this helps a little. Good luck.

Looks like you got a heck of a deal. I'm not too keen on garment/furniture leather but I'd lay money that it's all chrome tanned. Time to start cranking out some bags.
