  1. Very well put, NV.
  2. Well, I have found what may be the perfect home made burnisher motor. I found a 3300 rpm water pump for a whirlpool tub (I work for a company that does demo on these all the time). It's a 1/2" shaft 1 horsepower motor and it has three mounting feet on it.. Isn't that awesome? I didn't pay much attention to the switch during the demo and threw away the air switch button and hose. That wasn't much of a hurdle though. 5 bucks at the hardware store on a toggle switch had me up and running in no time. Now I just have to save up and get a pro edge burnisher to bolt on it and away we go.
  3. I'd take that free leather.
  4. So, yesterday I was in Tandy checking out. The guy was ringing me up and the girl was just sitting there twiddling her thumbs. I can't remember how the short conversation went this way but the kid said the girl was bored. "BORED" I said. "Pick up some leather". I was quickly informed by both kids that you can't craft leather on the premises. It's a fire able offense the first time your found doing it. I can understand corporate idea behind it about theft, but they can't do it even if they purchase the items. I find this a little disturbing. I would much rather walk in the store and see the employees putting down their job related hobby to help me then their cell phone. But that's just me. Or is it?
  5. I'm interested. I'll pm you tomorrow. Thanks.
  6. Now I'm confused..... Wouldn't a sealed letter be the perfect proof?
  7. Do you already have dies?
  8. That's a great idea.
  9. I would contact a patent attorney. Those invention places are liable to rip off your idea.
  10. Doing straps for a tote I just used a disposable food container. The kind from dollar general work fine. This way you can just put the lid on when you're done. Mix up a little more dye than you need. The leather will really soak it up. Pat down any pooling areas. Also, always do a test piece. Spend a little scrap before spending project time and money. Leodis leather does a video on different dyeing techniques. He's on YouTube. Good luck and have fun.
  11. Would it kill'em to throw out a little info? What gives with the mystery cloud already? Sheesh.
  12. I think they look really good and will only get better after seven more......so have at it.
  13. That's a big nice belt. Welcome aboard.
  14. Thanks. I'm gonna try it on something soon.
  15. The whole thing is just awesome. I haven't seen that style stitching that's holding the sheath together. Could you educate me a little on that technique?
  16. Ha! I'll be getting the burnisher for sure. This pump motor already has mounting brackets and runs 3300 rpm. Should be perfect. It's probably at least a 2 speed motor if not variable. I shouldn't have any problems getting it going. Back on topic: if I was in the market it looks like I would be buying the cowboy 32,35, or 4500. I think anyone of those machines would solve all the sewing needs. But I'm just a researching newbie. Take it with a grain of salt.
  17. that's great. i haven't sold anything as of yet. right now I'm just doing one project at a time. They are all firsts for me. I have made a fixed knife sheath, a folder knife sheath, a cell holster, and a tote. I'm currently working on a wallet. My next project will be maybe a belt. I once loved motorcycles till I had a motorcycle magazine. Now, it's just two wheel transportation without ac. I won't let that be the fate of this hobby. I'm really more concerned with a burnishing machine for now. Burnishing seems to suck big time by hand. Yesterday I secured a pump motor from a whirlpool tub. I'm hoping to find a burnisher that will bolt up straight away. I have a line on some but have to see what the shaft on the pump is. Hand stitching on the other hand I find pretty relaxing.
  18. Good luck with the rest of your items. Wish I could purchase more. You have offered some great deals.
  19. Cool. Thanks guys.
  20. It looks awesome. I'm curious about the length of it riding comfortably though. Keep us posted.
