  1. Interesting subject, I would agree about making your own patters and assembling the way you normally would. I wouldn't worry too much about patent infringement if you save all your patterns and trial and errors. Let's face it, you are going to make....what...maybe 30 or so holsters? I doubt that a company would buy one of your hand made holsters just to tear it apart to see if it is exactly like theirs....Now if you were making 30,000 holsters....you better worry....A LOT! And find a patent attorney!! (the penalty for willful patent infringement is triple the damages)! Let's say you swiped some big company's holster design and made an exact copy of their product. The company proves in court that they make $20 per holster. You would owe them $20 X 3 (triple damages) X 30,000 holsters (if you made that many)....that is a fine of 1.8 million dollars. So you might want to think twice about doing that. David Theobald 40 years in the patent illustration business.
  2. Not being too much of a movie theater guy; just because they are so darned expensive, I must admit to a few addictions on the "small screen" Stargate fan here....both of them and..... On the weekend, nothing beats a cup of joe, lacing a seat and a couple hours of HorsePower TV. That's pretty much it, except for when my Cincinnati Reds are on. David Theobald
  3. Very nice looking seat. The tooling on the lettering is terrific. Thanks for showing us. Dave Theoebald
  4. Neat Lac is about the only product that I have found that will hold Fiebings antiquing paste where it belongs. David Theobald
  5. Johanna, I isn't easy, when I quit, I had a strange craving for milk....go figure....but I drank a bunch of it. But, take heart, the addiction is broken in 10 days. After that, it is all in your head. What helped me was to do something when the craving hit. Something that required me to move around worked best....going for a walk or a run. TV was out of the question. If is sat down to veg. I wanted a smoke. Good luck with it. You will feel better when the cigs are gone! It is an accomplishment that you can be proud of. For an extra incentive, think of the extra $ you will have. When I quit my room mate and I would drive to Wright Patterson Air Force Base to go to the px. We bought them for $1.90 a carton. It was a cheap habit back then. Dave
  6. Paul That is beautiful leather work. Is the wood amboina? I like it a lot, I never thought of making presentation desk sheath. David Theobald
  7. Hilly, I'd love to do a Sheridan seat, but flowers on a seat just isn't something you can sell to a biker. So if I did one, it would end up being a shop sample (aka a seat that a customer never paid for).....I already have one of those. But I love your Sheridan work...you're doing a great job on it. Dave
  8. Nice Freak some funny stuff Dave Theobald
  9. Dave ...Thanks for your quick reply...I haven't been a member very long, and I'm impressed with the work I see and the friendly help...I haven't been doing much with carving, but I've been doing upholstery work for several years...I decided to re-build and re-upholster my personal motorcycle seat as a first try in leather...since then I've re-padded, re-build and re-upholstered several (mostly for touring bikes)...now that I've seen your work, it's got me thinking about a new seat for my bike again (this time carved)...I'm attaching a picture of the seat I have on my bike now...all leather except for the passenger backrest which is factory stock...Thanks again for the info. Phil P.S. also attaching a pic of a maul I made Nice looking work Phil, That is going to be a serious challenge to make a seat for that bike. Post some pics as you work your way through the job. Thanks again, Dave Theobald
  10. Hey Phil, Thanks for looking at this oldie, I use a 1/8" straight punch available from Tandy....takes about 45min to lay out and punch all 200 holes in the front and back. a bit longer when there are the additional holes for decorative lace. Dave Theobald
  11. Really nice work Kate, I love your gameboards. Sure wish you would do a how to on them. David Theobald
  12. Nice work, I like the "Kilroy was here" pic. Great tooling choices, I like the spine applique. It's a great idea....makes me thing.... mmm there IS something I could do with all those practice pieces. David Theobald
  13. Just, I coat the top of the foam with tape....something that wont stretch when you pull it off. I cut it to shape while it is on the seat. Pull the tape off carefully so that it stays together and comes off in one piece. Some times I put on two layers of tape to make sure it doesn't stretch; then add 3/8" all the way around for my lacing area.....same thing for the back. David Theobald David Theobald
  14. When you are taking out aggressions on a piece of cow hide nothing beats watching/listening to re runs of American Chopper with Jr and Sr. duking it out. But if it has to be music.....all those guys that Jordan said.....yeah that's good stuff. David Theobald
  15. How can I do this? Do I have to tool the leather and then dye or color the stampings? I mean stamping the brown leather first and mix dye or paint in a lighter brown and then color the stamped impressions? I know many of you guys here are very fine and experienced workers so please help me. It would be so great if someone could help me with that problem. Hello, You will want to tool first, then color with stain or dye David Theobald

  22. Thanks Clay,The tooling on these Victorian scrolls is rather time consuming. Thanks for viewing the post.Take care,Dave Tom,You won't find that the seat is two lines and Sucker Punch lettering. It is rather complex. Fun to do but time consuming. The design came from SPS...it is not mine. Thanks for looking at my workDave Theobaldhttp://theobaldleather.com
  23. This is the latest Victorian scroll seat from Sucker Punch Sallys. David Theobald http://theobaldleather.com

On second thought, just go to the search button at the top of this page and type in Stock Seat. That is the name of a post I made a while back. It contains the info you want. Dave Theobald
