  1. Excellent work Ian, Some very nice looking bags. Note to self: ....I've gotta find time to do some bags.... David Theobald
  2. Holly, If that fails, call Fiebings....they made most of that stuff for Tandy...and they still make it under their own name. David Theobald
  3. Sorry to get a bit off topic here but I just got my first order and WC ROCKS! Never had such beautiful leather. David Theobald Sheathmaker,That is an outstanding job, very very nice. Sheaths of that size are no walk in the park and you handled it to perfection. Thanks for showing us. Something we can all aspire to.....great craftsmanship! David Theobald
  4. I actually gave mine away because I can do a much better job with a draw knife. David Theobald
  5. Cast my vote with Hilly. Give me plain ole water. David Theobald
  6. That sounds like something off the top of his head to me..... neatsfoot is OIL...eco is WATER based.....did he ever hear that oil and water don't mix? Just another opinion David Theobald how about a friend in CA buying a supply for you and shipping via sea?
  7. My suggestion would be to deglaze and re-dye. What black dye did you use? If it was the eco stuff, that may be the problem. But even if it is eco you should be able to get spirit dye to take over top of the eco. My opinions are hanging out here, can you tell I'm not a fan of eco dye? It works if you want a bright red or green or sky blue pink, but for the natural colors, I'll take Fiebings spirit dye every time. jmho David Theobald
  8. That looks OK Roger....black isn't always bad....that one looks good Dave Theobald
  9. That is the method that I was talking about....the leather doesn't scrunch up if it is wet and worked carefully into position. I'm sure beeze can give you a lesson in the right pattern making technique. Although I can't figure for the life of me why you would want to tear up a perfectly good seat. Usually guys wait until the seat is worn out....then recover it. While your wife is wearing it out, go to a junk yard and buy a couple beat up old seats and practice, practice, practice. Dave
  10. This seat will be better done in Beezachoppa's style of seat building. Check his posts for pictures. Dave
  11. Caddata I use MicroStation for my design work. I am not designing leather patterns with it but rather my tooling artwork. If anyone is interested in that, I can post some of them. My actual seat patterns are done the old fashioned way; which is to trace a master pattern. But I am fortunate that all my seats are basically on one two seat pan shapes. David Theobald
  12. Linda and Tom, Thanks for checking it out. Here it is with the edge braiding finished. I completed it last evening. The stain will have to wait until the owner sends me the P-pad that he wants. Then both will receive their finish at the same time. I haven't done a real deluxe seat for a customer for a while so this was a good build for me. David Theobald
  13. This is a seat being done for a client. He has this mark on his back fender...now on his seat also. Feedback welcome as always. David Theobald
  14. Andy, Beautiful work and a great site. Your work shows amazing variety and versatility as an artist. David Theobald
  15. Congrats Wolfie, Kids are the greatest thing in the world. Exciting times ahead for you. My youngest is a State Highway Patrolman now but I remember lots and lots of soccer games, school plays, music lessons, piano recitals, wow the memories. My daughter is expecting her first later in June, it will be our 4 grandchild. I'm happy for you, buddy. Enjoy them while you and they young. They are grown and gone way too fast. David Theobald
  16. Hi tom, Thanks for looking at my seat. Yes I used a Craftool backgrounder A-888-2. Glad you liked it. And I agree this is a great site. Dave Theobald
  17. Beautiful piece of work Frog. I like that a lot...and I'm not even into skulls David Theobald

  19. Kate, Put me down for a SIGNED copy of that book PLEASE Dave
  20. Kate, Now that is simply beautiful. I really like that, the colors are perfect. David Theobald
  21. Here is one of the finished seats with the new scroll pattern....I got interrupted on this with another custom job...so better late than never here is the finished product. I've added a few new colors to my fade so let me know what you think of it. David Theobald
  22. A complaintaint would have to prove that your inferior holster caused some sort of damage to him. I think that would be difficult unless your holster can cause someone to take off the safety and also cause them to pull the trigger. Stranger things have happened but judges are getting wise to these kinds of liability scams now. Of course you could protect yourself a bit by forming a LLC (limited liability company) Not too expensive but will probably require an attorney. David Theobald
  23. Interesting subject, I would agree about making your own patters and assembling the way you normally would. I wouldn't worry too much about patent infringement if you save all your patterns and trial and errors. Let's face it, you are going to make....what...maybe 30 or so holsters? I doubt that a company would buy one of your hand made holsters just to tear it apart to see if it is exactly like theirs....Now if you were making 30,000 holsters....you better worry....A LOT! And find a patent attorney!! (the penalty for willful patent infringement is triple the damages)! Let's say you swiped some big company's holster design and made an exact copy of their product. The company proves in court that they make $20 per holster. You would owe them $20 X 3 (triple damages) X 30,000 holsters (if you made that many)....that is a fine of 1.8 million dollars. So you might want to think twice about doing that. David Theobald 40 years in the patent illustration business.
