  5. hi this is david, drop me a line if you have questions Dave Theobald
  6. Thanks for the comments guys, The Victorian scroll was their idea not mine....I also have the lesson by Painting Cow...it is interesting. David Theobald http://theobaldleather.com
  7. Welcome to the board Pet. You will love all the stuff going on here. Dave Theobald http://theobaldleather.com
  8. Zman, You are correct the scroll work was beveled from the inside. David Theobald
  9. Tom Swede, That's a good tip....so if you're doing a frame mount instead of a springer seat, you can save a bit of time on the lacing. Good idea. Tom Sawyer, Thanks for taking a look-see. Glad you liked it. Johnny, I'll put them all up here for sure. Thanks for looking David Theobald http://theobaldleather.com
  10. Clean as always Roger, it is going to be a great looking seat. Regarding the blisters, have you thought of putting some thin surgical tubing around your tools? It makes them very finger friendly. David Theobald http://theobaldleather.com
  11. Roger, Shirley talked about it briefly in her USMC seat thread. It is basically a three forward, two backward lacing pattern.....Like the basket weave, but with no "under" lacing. Hope that is clear. Where ever the basket weave pattern requires you to thread your lace under previous lacing, you just keep it on top.....hence "fast" basket weave. It ends up looking like a herringbone pattern. David Theobald http://theobaldleather.com
  12. Hey Ken, They actually ordered three of these seats...one black (of course), one tan, and one tan fading to black at the edge. The scroll work is time consuming for sure. Thanks for looking, Dave Theobald http://theobaldleather.com
  13. Had this artwork requested from SPS West. It was an interesting challenge. I've never done Victorian Scroll type work before and had never connected it with motorcycles. I tried the "fast" basketweave that ShirleyZ used on her USMC seat. It certainly is faster, I like it. Dave Theobald http://theobaldleather.com
  14. Good job on the artwork Tom, especially the hand and muscles in the forearm. It is going to look good. Dave
  15. Wrecked Harleys have to go some where Johann....maybe to auto junkyards.....it would be worth asking around. Dave
  16. Most areas have a motorcycle junk yard....I'd look for a seat from a junked or wrecked bike. You should be able to pick one up much cheaper than new. David Theobald check out my oldschool springer seats at: http://theobaldleather.com
  17. I'm a fan of spraying on neat lac....I don't like the little fuzzies from sheepskin, I never use the stuff for anything, but that is just a personal thing....being alergic to wool might have something to do with it too. As far as the purpose of neat lac; it will stop crocking instantly. Crocking is the tendency of black to rub off, it will also protect antiquing paste. Neat Lac will also add a gloss to your finished product. I use it on all my black seats. But use this stuff outside or get a spray booth....it is a pretty nasty lacquer compound. 18. Definately improving. Great looking, very high quality. I really like them. David Theobald
  19. Ryan, I took a copy of The Horse and faked the rest. Sorry I can't be of more help. Dave
  20. Shirley, Yeah, that makes a lot of sense....a fast round braid....I like it. Did you see the Bandidos seat after I finished it? I could have used a fast round braid on that monster. Dave Theobald
  21. Shirley, It looks great, do you remember where you got that braid? And what size lace did you use on it? It does a great job of covering the joint. Looks great. This one's a winner for sure, David Theobald
  22. Hey Tom, That pan looks about the size of the Bandidos seat. How are you going to wrap the leather around the front of the seat?....It looks like there are pieces welded perpendicular right at the edge of the seat. I hope my question is clear....just not sure how you are going to do the leather part of that. Is this going to be a springer seat? Those air suspensions look pretty cool, wonder how well they work and how rigid they mount to the frame.....I have no experience with them. Cool bike. Dave Theobald
  23. Ken, Terrific tutorial, you've done a great job on it. Your work is making this site so much better. David Theobald
  24. Thanks Grumpy, I'll be glad to do seats for them if asked. The chap who ordered this one is an Iraq vet that I met at SPS East just after he returned home. Nice guy. Dave Theobald
  25. Thanks for the encouraging words guys, my hands are really sore today.....this big seat is really heavy and really stressed my hands and wrists. Dave Theobald
