  1. My sister wanted me to make her a hair on hide belt with both ends being tooled and the part of the belt that goes around the backside being the hair on hide and containing any bling/conchos. Has anyone ever made one of these that may give me suggestions? I think my main concern is: Is it a three part belt? Both tooled end which are sewn to the part of the belt that has the hair on hide? I've seen different pictures of the type of belt I'm trying to explain, but the pictures don't show the entire belt, so it's hard to see exactly how it's done. Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated. Butch
  2. Very nice work. A lot of detail.
  3. Thanks everyone for the comments. Unfortunately I'm not able to see my mom very often and to be able to personally give this Bible cover to her was a lot more special then mailing it to her. I pointed out areas where I had made mistakes and she told me that I was my own worse critic, she thought it was perfect. Thank you Holly for Yolanda's website. It's truly amazing the work she does.
  4. Happy Birthday CurlyBill. We were born on the same day you just have a few years on me :)

Take care and have a great day.

  6. I made this Bible Cover and Key Fob for my Mom. This has been my hardest, yet most enjoyable project yet. Thanks for looking. Butch
  7. Thanks guys. I now have the information that I need to get it done. I was definately poking in the dark before. Thanks again, Butch
  8. I'm in the process of hand sewing a zipper into a Bible Cover that I made for my mom. I sewed in the first side of the zipper and it came out ok; however, when I sewed in the second half and got to the end the lengths weren't even and half that I sewed in second was all bunched up. Does anybody have any suggestions on keeping the zipper straight and even while sewing it on? Thanks, Butch
  9. Ken, Thanks for the info on the Lace Maker Tutorial. I finally got around to trying it and made quite a long piece. It took a few attempts and I found that patience and concentration really helps. Thanks again.

    Lace Maker

Does/has anyone used this type of Lace Maker? I bought one and tried it on some leather, probably not made for lace, but I was able to cut about 6" of lace and then it would cutoff. Is there a certain kind of leather to use? Or should I just scrap it and look into a different type? Thanks
  15. Thanks for all of the comments. Tina, I'll try the paint and see how it goes on the next one I make. Thanks again to all.
  16. Snowed yesterday. Today is supposed to be 55 and partly sunny 80 degrees by Sunday Talk about inconsistency
  17. Thanks for the comments. I agree with the size of the holes; however, it all came in a kit and I did all of the stitching while we drove to Nevada. The stamps used for the background are Tandy E294-01 and E294-04.
  18. Here's a plaque that I made for work for the team that I work with. It's my first shot at carving Sheridan. I wanted to dye all of the background black, but I had a hard enough time just dying what I did.
  19. Here's a little clutch type purse from Tandy that I tooled for my wife.
  20. Ariel, I have four different books on braiding: Encyclopedia of Rawhide and Leather Braiding - Bruce Grant How to Make Cowboy Horse Gear - Bruce Grant Braiding Rawhide Horse Tack - Robert L. Wooley Braiding Fine Leather - David W. Morgan I'm just learning how to braid myself and when I attempt to braid something I usually pick up Encyclopedia of Rawhide and Leather Braiding. Although I fully agree with Myriam that some of the illustrations can be misleading. I've only seen some of Gail Hought's braiding instructions on the internet and did find them a lot easier to follow. From what I've seen her books are expensive, but I've read they are well worth it. I've also heard that some of her more advanced books refer back to some of her other books to tie certain knots, etc. How to Make Cowboy Horse Gear is a condensed version of Encyclopedia of Rawhide and Leather Braiding with a section about saddles. Braiding Rawhide Horse Tack is very hard to understand, so I don't even open it up. Braiding Fine Leather has sections for round braiding, flat braiding and then sections on how to make projects such as a Key Lanyard, Whistle Lanyard, Dog Leash, Hatband and Belt. Again not one of my favorite. My personal pick is the Encyclopedia of Rawhide and Leather Braiding and I still have plans on buying The Art of Braiding, Basics - Revised Edition by Gail Hought as Mariam mentioned. Good luck, Butch

  23. Thanks for all of the input guys. It just makes sense to me to have a sheath that you can pull the knife out naturally. I'll take a better look at all your sheaths and maybe I can come up with something that will work. I promise I won't copy yours though. I just needed a little bit of a jump start. Thanks again.
  24. Does anyone have or know where I might be able to get a hold of a knife sheath pattern that holds the knife in a horizontal position on a belt instead of the standard vertical position? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  25. I made a Guitar Strap for my son's 21st Birthday and put his name and the State of Idaho on it. The booze and gambling come next weekend. I used the Tandy Guitar kit, which I really don't like but I didn't have the more western pattern to use. I dyed the strap black, but left the name and the State of Idaho natural along with the lace.
