  1. I still have a little bit of the black 0.8mm Tiger, although it has been in demand lately. Links to get to it are here: http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=62632 YinTx
  2. So, really, I didn't mean to ignite a debate, I just basically meant to say your work is really nice, and was well worth the asking price, and that it was in my eyes worth more due to the quality of your craftsmanship. Bottom line, if the buyer and the seller are happy, then its a sale! And I enjoyed watching your 10 part video series, and thanks for the tip on using an antler to get to those hard to reach places, I've got to find me one that will do the trick for me as well now! Keep up the nice work, YinTx
  3. Turned out nice! And if you sold it that fast, maybe it was worth more than $65? I think you spent more time, money and skill on it than $65, but thats just my opinion. Congrats on the fast sale! YinTx
  4. Pm sent. YinTx
  5. Would you mind showing us the new path that the machine has been threaded with? Thanks in advance, YinTx
  6. Thank you. I did like the way this came out despite the low quality leather, which I will not use on a large difficult item ever again. A very few things I'd do differently next time around, but I think the design is pretty sound. I enjoyed making this one, even if it did take 5 or 6 solid weeks of work! YinTx
  7. From the album: Straps, Belts, Watches

Showing the back of the hand stitched leather belt. This is a fairly narrow 3/4" belt, so any deviation from perfect seems amplified. Trying to get good enough where I can feel confident enough to do a watch strap. Fil Au Chinois lin cable thread. Wickett and Craig leather. YinTx

  8. Thank you tclaridge! I was a little hesitant when I chose the thread color, but I think the colors look pretty good together. I hope I get just a little better each time I make something... YinTx

Just finished this 3/4" hand stitched belt with 0.6mm Tiger thread and Wickett and Craig leather. Its a gift, so I'll punch the holes after it has been given so they correctly placed. YinTx

  11. Conversely, I did a fun experiment to compare different size threads in 7spi stitching spacing, and with different stitching tools (chisels, irons, different brands, different styles). You can see the results here: http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=64153&hl= I hope it is somewhat enlightening. YinTx
  12. I'm doing a few belts this year as well. I am thinking to solve the problem by either not adding a hole until after they have received the gift, or only putting one hole so the rest can follow where needed.. not reasonable if you have to ship the belt, but if the gift is to a local or a family member... could be an option. YinTx
  13. Huh, a skiving machine? now you're just showin off. But seriously, cool colors on the belt, I like it. What did you use for the stitching? YinTx
  14. One of my machines appears to be doing a very similar thing, and I'd been beating my head against a brick wall trying to iron it out before I finally gave up many months back. So, I have been following this conversation diligently hoping that I could get a nugget to solve the issue. Please keep us up to date with the details and your solution, I really appreciate you putting the effort into sharing with us. YinTx
  15. Thanks for the offer, I had to have 0.6mm to match a project in progress. I have ordered some, so none needed... for now! Thanks again, YinTx
  16. steadybrook, Thanks for looking. If there are no takers, I may have to order a spool and add it to the stock! YinTx

  18. I believe it is a Navy blue, dark. The color code I think is JK14. YinTx
  19. I am looking for about 25-50 yards of the blue 0.6mm Tiger Thread. I have a lot of other threads, and I am willing to trade straight across for any of them that you would need. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=62632&hl= Thanks! YinTx
  20. Zuludog, Wow, that is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much. It might be easy, but if you are missing the parts and have never seen one in use, gets kinda difficult all of a sudden. Your video brought it back to the "easy" realm, so I really appreciate it! If someone already knows how to do something, they can move on to the next video, and you won't insult them. The rest of us can learn something, so please feel free to make and post all the videos you want! YinTx
  21. Don't know about dyeing after stitching, so can't help you there. As far as waxing, I generally will rewax after 12 or so stitches especially when I am using linen thread, I think it helps set the thread in the hole better, and certainly keeps the fraying down. Just my own made up way, based on my experience, since no one told me one way or another. Perhaps an expert somewhere can help out as well, I'd be interested in knowing too! YinTx
  22. I will check out all the links and videos. I've seen the clams being used without the strap and stirrup, but never one with it. and was wondering if the two screws in the body were original or added after. The photos in the gallery are more clear. I do hand stitching already, but with a regular stitching horse. It does not work well for really large items, so I was hoping this would fit the bill. I had been looking far and wide for one, and had this one shipped from Scotland, so I don't plan to sell, thanks for the offer. This one does have leather already on the ends, but may need to be replaced. If the screws in the body are added and not original, and thus have already ruined the antique value of the clams, I will probably just refinish it, since it looks like a nice birdseye patterned wood. YinTx
  23. Not so sure where to post this, but I thought I'd start here: So I just got my hands on this stitching clam that came from Scotland as far as I know. It is different from the Vergez Blanchard style in that it has no hinge, and it has a ring and an opening which I presume is for a strap. I don't believe the two screws in the side are original, but for all I know they could be something that should be there. At any rate, I don't really know how to use this style of clam, or how you would attach a strap and use it. I was hoping to use it without a strap, as it would allow me to use it on items that are really large. Any help I can get would be much appreciated, what I would really like to see is someone that has one like this demonstrate in a youtube video, but I'll take any info/photos etc. that I can get! Thanks in advance, YinTx other photos in my gallery here: http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?app=gallery&album=2597
