  1. Those are great bags, but I have a question: by edge work, do you mean stitching? It looks like I see holes for sewing, but no thread... or do you not plan to stitch? Or am I just not seeing it? The three tone dye is a cool effect, and I like the image tooled in the center too! YinTx
  2. Yes, the thread size versus hole size makes a huge difference. In this case, the 332 thread is about 0.7mm, or 0.028". I still used a larger awl on this to get the look. Glad the photos are useful. There is a section that has different thread sizes in different pricking iron marks for reference. Do you have pics of your work anywhere? YinTx

A very close up image of a recent belt, using Campbell's Satin Laid Linen thread. Vinegaroon dye. I like the color combo on this one, I may make one for myself! YinTx

It really depends on what I am working on. The large messenger bag with the heavier linen thread I did with the Abbey England iron. The Kyoshin Elle is really nice for finer threads at 7spi and I have used it on belts. I have used the Euro style ebay irons on the phone sleeves I made, and I liked the way they came out. The punches make consistent stitches, but I don't use them very often because I enjoy using the awl. If I didn't use an awl, I am sure I would be making copious use of them. Not sure if that helps you at all, lol. The Kyoshin Elle irons have been my go to irons, but I lost one in the fire. I found the other in the ashes, but it was in rough shape. I've been trying to replace it, no luck. YinTx
  7. I really appreciate the videos you have been putting out. Things you may think are simple because you've used them for or done them for years are for some of us a revelation, because we've never been around it, have never seen it or heard of it. Occasionally, a "duh" kinda revelation, like I shoulda thought of that, but thats the beauty of it. Things others have figured out I can learn from, and move on to figuring something else out. And I like learning something in 5 minutes, because again, I can go practice it, then go on and learn something else. So, really, Thank You! YnTx

Just a work in progress, nearly done. Changed my stitching method, took a bit to get used to it, so some stitches not so perfect... YinTx

  9. This was an older belt I had made, and I am quite certain it was 332 thread, not 532 thread. At any rate, I have been using 7SPI pricking irons to mark the leather, and a very old German awl blade to make the holes for this particular thread size, since it is a larger blade than my Blanchard. I started about a year ago, with about a 6 month absence so I feel I have a long way to go with improving my stitching. Thank you for the compliment, keeps me motivated to keep learning, practicing! Seems to be the one thing people want, is belts. Hand stitching takes a while! YinTx

  12. I actually noticed the beveled edges right away, and thought it was a neat touch vs. the square and round options out there, so I'd say keep it that way if you like, or adopt the rounded look if you prefer it. The long stitch around the corner does stand out in a not so good way to me tho...otherwise, looks like it came out really nice! YinTx
  13. I'd say this is much better than an "attempt." I'd call it a complete success. Very nice. And a lot of work went into that, I really like the attention to even the finest details. Awesome. YinTx

Combining two great passions: hand crafted leather and hand crafted cappuccino. Its a wonderful Saturday Morning! YinTx

  15. "I just use the cut to fit method. Make it 6" too long, and then put it on the customer. I then use my english point punch and a maul to cut it to length right on the customers hip. One big whack. It took a few tries to get the depth and technique right, but I'm like a pro now...." I feel sorry for the hip on the first few customers before you got that technique right! musta been a bloody mess.... seriously though, most of the time I am making them for someone far away... so no on-sight measurements. And usually there are about another 2 weeks of stitching to be done after the belt has been cut to length... YinTx
  16. Responded to your other posting as well. I still have a little bit of the black 0.8mm Tiger, although it has been in demand lately. Links to get to it are here: http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=62632 YinTx

  18. So, really, I didn't mean to ignite a debate, I just basically meant to say your work is really nice, and was well worth the asking price, and that it was in my eyes worth more due to the quality of your craftsmanship. Bottom line, if the buyer and the seller are happy, then its a sale! And I enjoyed watching your 10 part video series, and thanks for the tip on using an antler to get to those hard to reach places, I've got to find me one that will do the trick for me as well now! Keep up the nice work, YinTx
  19. Turned out nice! And if you sold it that fast, maybe it was worth more than $65? I think you spent more time, money and skill on it than $65, but thats just my opinion. Congrats on the fast sale! YinTx

  21. Would you mind showing us the new path that the machine has been threaded with? Thanks in advance, YinTx
  22. Thank you. I did like the way this came out despite the low quality leather, which I will not use on a large difficult item ever again. A very few things I'd do differently next time around, but I think the design is pretty sound. I enjoyed making this one, even if it did take 5 or 6 solid weeks of work! YinTx

Showing the back of the hand stitched leather belt. This is a fairly narrow 3/4" belt, so any deviation from perfect seems amplified. Trying to get good enough where I can feel confident enough to do a watch strap. Fil Au Chinois lin cable thread. Wickett and Craig leather. YinTx

  24. Thank you tclaridge! I was a little hesitant when I chose the thread color, but I think the colors look pretty good together. I hope I get just a little better each time I make something... YinTx
