  1. no idea at all, but a photo might change that... YinTx
  2. So, I had a request from someone to make something like this. I am curious about a couple of things: one, no fear that someone could just yank it off your belt? two, can you not see from the ends what is inside, ie see the hammer from one side, and the business end of the barrel from the other? Thanks for the curious questions! YinTx

Well, ashes. Don't know if the stitching horse will be restorable, after this. Everything else was a total loss after the fire, water and smoke damage. Pray for my neighbors that are in the hospital right now. All we have is love, after that everything else is noise. YinTx

  4. Ok, now I'm really sad. Because jealousy does not look good on me, and right now I can say I am not looking good. Really cool work, great use of colors, nice lines, very useable. In short, I love it, and I am wishing I I could say I had made something like that! YinTx
  5. DC, Thank you! Dirtclod: you could be right long term, but the intent of my design was to have the pen holder and the strap on the side away from the check book, so it is not under your hand or in the way when you are writing. Those are on the bank card and register side. The only piece I worried about was the small snap being under the checkbook, but I don't feel it at all through the leather, so it should be ok. I'll see how it works over time, and adjust future designs as needed. YinTx
  6. Pretty excited to finally get to make something after being away so long. My aunt had requested a new checkbook cover, she didn't want anything fancy, so I hope she enjoys this one. I am clearly out of practice on my hand stitching, but other than that and a few small errors here and there (forgot to burnish the pen holder edges before I stitched it up---Aaargh!) I think it still turned out ok. Open to suggestions for improvements, as I think I'll make a similar one for myself. Please let me know what ya'll think! Thank you! I will put more photos in the gallery: http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?app=gallery&album=2662 YinTx

Excited about this one, not because it was so great, but because I finally got to make something after so long! a checkbook cover requested by my Aunt. YinTx

  9. Fordpkup, I could not have said it better. My stitching satisfaction does not come from the speed, but from the quality of the product. If I want speed, I'll use a sewing machine, it'll at least maintain some degree of consistency that I would not be able to if I was working full tilt. That being said, it is nice to know whether I am working at a snails pace and should continue to try to pick up the rate, or if I'm moving along at a decent speed. Of course, I'd have to be stitching something for any of this to hold true, something I have not been able to do for some time now. Something about lack of time.... YinTx
  10. I had a request to make something like this, but I have been worried about the holster's ability to retain the pistol, in addition to being able to prevent unwanted access. Any thoughts/suggestions from anyone? I really like this approach, but I want it to be a bit more secure.... YinTx

  14. I have some hard plastic patterns... not sure what they fit tho. Have to finish up some orders then I can think about making a holster.... YinTx
  15. I have had to put my shop in vacation mode as I go through some transitions. If you need something, pm me and I'll open the shop for you! YinTx
  16. Fantastic, thanks for the link. It appears I've been doing everything backwards. Like applying dye, then edge finishing, then stitching - instead of stitching, edge finishing, then dying. Maybe the production version vs. the slow painful version I've been doing! A great video though, gives me some confidence to actually try a holster in the future. YinTx
  17. So at the risk of being the one who looks silly, I'll bite... is this video a mystery, top secret? or is there a link somewhere that I am just missing? YinTx
  18. Ok, so mine is not the Hunter brand, but Heiser, out of Denver. No idea how old it is. Has a pretty low serial number: 920. Perhaps someone in the know can inform me on this one! Is this a collectors item? Here are some pictures: YinTx

well, after 200 years it seems the legs just couldn't last any longer. So, had to have some new ones made. The gentleman that did it for me decided to sand the seat to match the legs, we shortened it up some as well. Curious to see how it will work! YinTx

  20. One other way to think about this: 1) Yes, the glue is stronger than the leather. 2) When you pull on a glued seam, what separates is the leather from the leather. That is to say, the leather will delaminate/peel and the glue bond will hold. As such the bond is only fractions of an inch thick into the leather, where the cement managed to fill into the voids of the leather. *It does not penetrate the entire thickness of the leather.* So you are testing the tensile strength of a very thin sheet of leather in this case. It will fail. 3) The stitch causes you to place the *entire* thickness of the leather into play. When you test the tensile strength now, you are testing the *entire* thickness of the leather and the thread as a single entity. This can be incredibly strong, particularly when you are using a thick, strong thread and a thick, high quality leather. You have to either break the thread, or tear the thread through the entire thickness of the leather. I don't know anyone that can pull apart a newly sewn 12 oz veg leather with 1mm Tiger thread. I do know folks that can pull apart a glued only leather seam. Just a different perspective, good or bad. I'll be stitchin. YinTx
  21. I think I might actually have one of these old holsters. If you give me a week or so, I'll be happy to snap a pic of all sides and post em here for you. That is if you still need it. Let me know! YinTx
