Excited about this one, not because it was so great, but because I finally got to make something after so long! a checkbook cover requested by my Aunt. YinTx© YinTx

Fordpkup, I could not have said it better. My stitching satisfaction does not come from the speed, but from the quality of the product. If I want speed, I'll use a sewing machine, it'll at least maintain some degree of consistency that I would not be able to if I was working full tilt. That being said, it is nice to know whether I am working at a snails pace and should continue to try to pick up the rate, or if I'm moving along at a decent speed. Of course, I'd have to be stitching something for any of this to hold true, something I have not been able to do for some time now. Something about lack of time.... YinTx

My Version Of A Sneaky Pete Holster.
YinTx replied to jstar61's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I had a request to make something like this, but I have been worried about the holster's ability to retain the pistol, in addition to being able to prevent unwanted access. Any thoughts/suggestions from anyone? I really like this approach, but I want it to be a bit more secure.... YinTx -

Andrews You Tube Video
YinTx replied to Red Cent's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Fantastic, thanks for the link. It appears I've been doing everything backwards. Like applying dye, then edge finishing, then stitching - instead of stitching, edge finishing, then dying. Maybe the production version vs. the slow painful version I've been doing! A great video though, gives me some confidence to actually try a holster in the future. YinTx -

So at the risk of being the one who looks silly, I'll bite... is this video a mystery, top secret? or is there a link somewhere that I am just missing? YinTx -
1938 22 Holster Question
YinTx replied to cleanview's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Ok, so mine is not the Hunter brand, but Heiser, out of Denver. No idea how old it is. Has a pretty low serial number: 920. Perhaps someone in the know can inform me on this one! Is this a collectors item? Here are some pictures: YinTx -
From the album: Tools
well, after 200 years it seems the legs just couldn't last any longer. So, had to have some new ones made. The gentleman that did it for me decided to sand the seat to match the legs, we shortened it up some as well. Curious to see how it will work! YinTx© YinTx

Gluing Edges Instead Of Stitching
YinTx replied to seabee's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
One other way to think about this: 1) Yes, the glue is stronger than the leather. 2) When you pull on a glued seam, what separates is the leather from the leather. That is to say, the leather will delaminate/peel and the glue bond will hold. As such the bond is only fractions of an inch thick into the leather, where the cement managed to fill into the voids of the leather. *It does not penetrate the entire thickness of the leather.* So you are testing the tensile strength of a very thin sheet of leather in this case. It will fail. 3) The stitch causes you to place the *entire* thickness of the leather into play. When you test the tensile strength now, you are testing the *entire* thickness of the leather and the thread as a single entity. This can be incredibly strong, particularly when you are using a thick, strong thread and a thick, high quality leather. You have to either break the thread, or tear the thread through the entire thickness of the leather. I don't know anyone that can pull apart a newly sewn 12 oz veg leather with 1mm Tiger thread. I do know folks that can pull apart a glued only leather seam. Just a different perspective, good or bad. I'll be stitchin. YinTx -
1938 22 Holster Question
YinTx replied to cleanview's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I think I might actually have one of these old holsters. If you give me a week or so, I'll be happy to snap a pic of all sides and post em here for you. That is if you still need it. Let me know! YinTx -

That just has an incredible style to it. I looked at some of your other stuff as well, really clean and unique look to it that is just truly appealing. I can only hope to do as well someday. Thanks for sharing! YinTx -

A Couple Of New Wallets
YinTx replied to jayjay's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I am going to make a wild guess, glue only? Did you use a specific tool to cut the slots, or just use a hole punch followed with knife between holes? Thanks in advance for the info! YinTx -
A Couple Of New Wallets
YinTx replied to jayjay's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
JayJay, Can you share with us how you line the card pockets to retain the cards so they don't fall down into the wallet? I am trying to make an interior similar to this, without stitching across the wallet pockets. Thank you kindly! YinTx
