  2. Good job,
  3. Thanks for the comments guys.
  4. Good point Daggrim, thanks
  5. Thanks for the input guys, We have looked around alot and done alot of searching and it seems to be hard to find stuff that is decent but not exuberant in price. Doesnt seem to be any middle of the road its either really cheap or really expensive. I talked with the weaver guys I think it is and got turned onto the ohiobag if I remember right so I think Ill stick with them for now. Ill check out the DOT fasteners also. Thanks
  6. Great job for your first try. Looks really good. I would love to give it a shot but not until I get a sewing machine that can handle leather someday. Until then I think Ill hold off a bit.
  7. Well the girlfriend found some upholstery leather odd lot at tandys for like $30 so we added it to the collection that day. I was having a little artist/craftsman block the other day so she suggested making her a tool roll. Well I went ahead and did it and pretty much just made a copy of a canvas one she allready had. Its all hand stitched and I tell you what my fingers are definatly broken in now. I wasnt trying to be pretty just utilitarian so the stitching aint perfect, the leather isnt the highest quality and so on .... I cut the back square, cut a angled piece and folded the top just a bit and stitched, made the little spaces for the wrenches and stitched each one at a time to get the spacing right, then thru some neats foot oil on. THe strap is the same leather 1" strip. Cut and stitched on. I think if you have a sewing machine these would be very quick easy projects for people that are intereseted, if your hand stitching its kind of a nightmare and just good to practice.
  8. I have used that drilling method myself. It gave me the best looking hand stitch job I have done to date. Very nice and easy to maintain a good straight even sewing pattern.
  9. I like, very good job. What color is that (tan with antique maybe). LOL and the cow, is that where you got the leather from.
  10. Rawhide I think Ill give that a go and see how I like it. Thanks Tomswede thanks for the input. Dont know about the sanding, I do know at a couple of leather dealers they sand it smooth, pretty sure they use some pretty rough sandpaper though.
  11. OK so when I first started casing and carving/stamping my leather I used the blue painters tape and it works great to keep the leather from spreading out when you work it. However when I pull it off it pulls all the flesh side out really furry like. I tried just packing tape but the leather with that seemed to spread out pretty far and distort the shape. So what do you guys use. I have heard/read about using the rubber cement to hold it to cardboard but seems to me it would spread out pretty good with that but I could be wrong. Is there another tape that works better? Or should I jsut live with the flesh side getting really furry and just gum it or rub it back down or sand it or something. Thanks for the input.
  12. hey guys got some of this stuff to use to keep the back of my leather nice and smooth like on belts and stuff. Now how do I use it. Do I use it on dry leather or should it be moistened? How much to use? Do you just rub it in tot he flesh side? Thanks for the help.
  13. Sorry havnt tried them out so cant answer your question. However I am thinking about trying some other leathers besides tandy in the future but would like to say I have been pleased with picking out the higher end tandy stuff. When getting the premium or live oak from tandy I have gotten some nice looking leather. The biggest problem I see with tandy is the fact that most of the leather is stored in a store front atmosphere and if you dont get it while it is new it ends up getting beatup or sun burned. However I have the opportunity to pick thru what I want. I am debating on ordering online since I cant see what Im getting. By chance what type of leather were you getting from tandy. The craftsman stuff allthough good to learn on isnt that great.
  14. Great looking work, I need to make one for what I take the compound bow out shooting. I caught my arm once and looked like I had a baseball underneath my skin lol.
  15. Hey David outstanding looking seat. I really like the accent lacing. Question, do you ever have any problems with the leather balm pulling some of the dye up on the first coat. I allways have a issue with that and sometimes itll blend the dies if I have mutliple colors.
  16. Wondering what all you guys that sell your stuff for a pretty penny use as far as hardware (clasp, buckles, hinges, .... ). I understand that when you start making a quality product that is sold you dont want the finish rubbing off of a concho or clasp in a week or two of use. Just some input on who you guys turn too for quality stuff.
  17. Amen to that, my first wallet I made when I first started out about a year ago is still rocking strong. I want to make a new one but wanted to wait till my other kicked the bucket but besides loooking a little aged it is still in great shape. Im sure he will be very happy with it for a long time to come.

  21. That looks like a good start. You gonna be adding any leather to it. Be sure to show some photos when your all done.
  22. CitizenKate that makes alot more sence to me. Thanks Also Bree no worries its good to share info and such, dont worry if it is too bad in some way will be locked or removed, the staff here is really good about keeping this place running smoothly.
  23. Very nice looking stuff, thanks for continueing to show off your work. I took a stroll thru your website and must say very nice job. Its not annoying, easy to navigate, shows off your work well. On your wrist bands does the 6.5" to 0 inch pretty much cover most of the orders with rare exceptions?
