On my trip to South Africa last year I visited the SA Guild and Tommy McLintic was there to demonstrate the lace cutter he had developed himself. Being so far away from the USA with terrible import costs, these guys are forced to come up with a plan - and they do! I will put the video that I have of this cutter somewhere on the web and place a link later on in this topic ...

My computer is powered by a bicycle we attached to a generator we attached with an old piece of rawhide. If you want Windows or other Microsoft products to crash, you just ring the bicycle bell. Cell phones? I have a whip. If I want to contact someone, I write a message on a scrap of paper, put it in a cleft stick and have one of my kids run with it - the whip is for express mail. Laptop? I have one - that is where the dog sits when I scratch his ears - the Dane has to stand on the floor - he does not fit on my laptop ...

I usually take all the pics and have very few of myself. I am happiest in my kayak! Around the table - during our visit to my mom in South Africa last year. The other pic is of myself with my uncle and my two sons during the same visit. The formal group photo is our little family ...

TANDY carries the Masters and Masters Solvent

I am comfortable with everything I do on the web - reading or publishing. What these guys say in their license agreement is what I would expect them to say in any case. I also like the way Google do their advertising - it is never intrusive and could just as well not have been there. And it keeps their superior products free, as opposed to the money grabbing Gates and his severely inferior products (that you have to pay for through the nose).

Hi everyone! I loaded CHROME from Google last night and I am using that as a browser. It is like jumping from the 19th century - steam driven - into the 21st century - whispering by on hydrogen. I used Firefox before, but I doubt I will go back to that. All the cool features I enjoyed in Firefox are simply even better in Chrome. It is small. super fast, ultra intuitive, extremely user friendly and a definite MUST-TRY! You can get it at http://tools.google.com/chrome/?hl=en-US WOW!!!!!

Azmal, What do you mold your leather over? How do you get that shape? I have made masks and know how important in that case the mold is underneath ....

Help making a leather case for a handheld game
Leerwerker replied to Fritzy's topic in Patterns and Templates
Hi Fritzy, There is a brand new book on the Tandy shelves - just been out a week or so: I'm not even sure of the name, but it is under a KidsCrafts label (I think). It is an excellent book for kids and adults alike who is starting out. One of the projects in there is a leather case for a gameboy or something and it shows you how to design it. Everything is kept very simple, but it would make it easy to make it a bit smarter than a nine year old would be able to achieve. Hope this helps! -
I have another Gum Trag question: I always just assumed the gum would be water soluble after it was dry, so I always sealed it with supersheen when using it on the back of a belt to slick down the belt. Then I spoke to a friend and he said he had just assumed the oposite: that Gum Trag was a final finish for the edge or the back of a belt and he had never sealed it and never heard of it softening if it got wet again. Any thoughts?

Not this time, Denise! I did learn those muscles like that when my wife was studying and we made clay muscles on a plastic skeleton so that she could identify them ... I could almost be a masage therapist myself ..!?!! Although the design was based on a drawing, it was a good drawing that I ran by my wife first to see if everything was drawn in the right places.

Hi there! Just a pic for those who asked - here you can get an idea of the anatomy study!

Here it is, after 33 hours of work. I glued it onto wood today after putting leather hangers on the back of the wood. Everybody thinks it came out well. I will add a pic tomorrow of me holding it so that you can see its size ....

Casing leather
Leerwerker replied to UKRay's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Bill, this is the best summary yet - I fully agree all the way! -
Hi everybody, Someone recently asked me to help asses the value of tools left in her mom's estate. They were really good. We had a buyer for the whole lot, but that fell through and now Tracy is putting them on e-bay at http://stores.ebay.com/Tracys-Nook So, if you want to add to your collection, this is a golden opportunity. The only new stamps, are the ones that Tandy / Leather Factory recently introduced. Almost all the other standard tools are the old hand finished tools. There are also handmade ones and many discontinued ones that she will put on sale as time allows.

Casing leather
Leerwerker replied to UKRay's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I asked about the new Eco-Flo version of Pro - Carve: it wets difficult leather better and has the big advantage that it increases the amount of burnishing you get when tooling. Me and a friend had two beautiful double shoulders we selected to tool on. (part of mine turned into the anatomy study). When he cased his by wiping with a sponge, one part of the leather did not immedialtely soak up the water! On the spur of the moment, he added a shaving of saddle soap to the water and wiped again. Instant success! The leather soaked the water up evenly as the other parts did and all went well...
