  1. Hi Ed57, I didn't realize there was a Tandy store in Shreveport and you are right, that would be alot closer. But since I live in Metairie (only about 5 miles away from the NOLA store) I never checked any other stores out. I am sure you will enjoy the adventure no matter where you go. Enjoy and show us your results when you get something to show.Arthur
  2. Hello Ed57. Welcome to a awesome site. If you get a chance you may wish to take a trip down to NOLA to visit the Tandy store down there. It will certainly feed your imagination of new ideas for things to make or do. The people there are very helpful and willing to help. Arthur Andersen
  3. Hello; I have a Henry .22 cal Mares' Leg. I can give you measurements if you tell me what you want and realize I will be using my wifes' seamstress measuring tape. Just let me know what you want. Arthur
  4. I think Tippmann also sells one. Looks pretty good to me..
  5. Hi. This is a pattern I found somewhere years ago. Not sure if it is what you wanted. Arthur Captain_Jack_Sparrow_Hat.pdf
  6. Hi Butch, I too would love to have a copy of your doctors' bag pattern. arthurandersen84@yahoo.com. Thank you. Arthur.
  7. JoAnne, From one programmer, 'Ya done good!' Keep up the good work. Arthur
  8. Hi Richard, You may want to contact the New Orleans Tandy Leather Store on Airline Drive over by Zyphers Field. The manager there usually keeps a listing of local leatherworkers and their speciality. Their number is 504-737-3434. I would recomend my wife Cookie except she has cut way back on leatherworking due to her health. But I am sure there are other leatherworkers that would be happy to help you out. Arthur
  9. Wandering Star, Just make sure that the "key" ( the little square piece of metal that fits between the roller and the roll to keep it from slipping on the roller) will fit both the slot on the roller and the slot in the embossing roll. If I remember they are different sizes and you need the smaller size key so it the roll will work with the Tipmann Embosser roller. Arthur
  10. Hello all; Yes i saw the notice on the Tandy website that the book is now offered in a pdf format. I wish that had been the case 3 years ago when I was looking for it. But ho problem. I did obtain a hard copy. I may still go and get a copy of the pdf just to have in case of another Katrina. i would strongly recomend getting the pdf as it contains patterns that are hard to find elsewhere and they are of a different style of powder bag.. Arthur
  11. Hi.. They fit but the "slot" for the "key" is smaller so you must also use the Tandy key or improvise. The Tippmann key will not fit into the Tandy smaller slot. Other than that they work like a charm. As for other supplier there may be some out there but I haven't found any. It doesn't matter to me tho as I have all the patterns I need. I got alot from Tippmann when they had alot bigger selection and was able to buy alot from the local Tandy store when the manager was told to get rid of them and he made me a deal I could not refuse. Arthur
  12. Welcome Trey. I live in Metairie. Some Saturday you might want to cruise down here to visit the Tandy Leather Factory. Russ the manager is a pretty good dude and Christine, his senior staff member, is pretty awesome too. They are both very knowledgeable and very helpful. Arthur
  13. Hi, When I needed a ampersand I ended up taking a Tandy Treble Clef ( music) and grinding off the hangy down part. It was not perfect but it was ok and good enough for what I needed. Just my two cents and another suggestion. Arthur
  14. Verrrrry nice!!!.. I also love the knife. Where did you get that or did you make it yourself? I love the scrimshaw. Excellent work.. Arthur
  15. You may wish to find out from whoever you rent from " Did the house flood during Katrina and if so how badly". It will be a good thing to know as certain parts of the city always flood, or at least get deep water in their area. Can lead to alot of replaced clothes, tools, firniture, cars, etc. Not much has been done to raise these areas but the levees have been built up some, but certain areas always seem to "flood" even in moderate rains. Can become troublesome. You may have to compromise on a house WITH a garage AND WITH a workroom. Can become pricey. Not saying they can not be found but alot of places to rent will/may have a garage maybe . Or a carport. You may have to consider making one of the bedrooms into a workroom. When you do get down here stop by the local Tandy store. I am sure the people there will be wanting to meet you. I have seen some of your work and it is all first rate. Arthur
  16. Hi Ed, I live in New Orleans and have done so for the last 18 years. If you are coming to this area and want to rent you may want to look in the Metrairie area. That is between New Orleans proper and the New Orleans airport so it is west of the downtown area. There is also Kenner which is the actual community that the airport is located in. These two areas are both nice but Metairie is the nicer/bigger of the two, however you would be hard pressed to determine when you leave Metairie and enter Kenner. Also the Tandy store is located on the boundry between Metairie and Kenner. All this applys only to the East Bank. The other part of New Orleans located on the other side of the Mississippi River is known as the West Bank by the locals ( who claim that the west bank is the best bank.) Downtown does have it's problem areas, as does any large city and you will quickly learn which areas to avoid. It is an interesting city with a unusual outlook on life. The Mardi Gras can not be compared to anything else in the USA. The resturants are exceptional but local traffic and the drivers can cause you to grow quite a few gray hairs. Good luck and enjoy the city. It is truly unique. Arthur
  17. I would not beat myself up too badly if I were you. It still was a very good job and I am sure your Mom will love it. If she is like mine she will take pride and point out the "oops" spot to anyone who who will listen and say that it proves you did it by hand and it was not something you just bought and gave to her. Good work. your tooling appears to be of excellent quality. Arthur
  18. Hello; Your ad does not mention if this is a oilless unit or not. You will save yourself alot of grief if you get a oilless compressor and a water separator to attach at the brush. Just know that I speak from experience. Good luck Arthur
  19. Hello!! Last time I checked his site was down and all his videos were being sold through his daughter. Her contact info, last I heard, was zegirlsdolls@cox.net, but be prepared for a long wait. The last videos I ordered through her took a month to arrive. They are worth the wait tho. All this information is from July of 2010. Good luck. Arthur
  20. I have heard that they are the same material that is placed on the base of clickers. I checked prices of clicker base mats from a well known maker and it ran $55.00 for a piece 12 X 24 X .8 inches. Alot cheeper than Tandy. Just my 2 cents.
  21. Hello; I live in Metairie and have been doing leather stuff for about 27 years, my wife 5 years. check out the Tandy store in Metairie near Zephers field on Airline. They are good people and offer classes you might be interested in checking out. Welcome to the site. There are alot of good people and information on this site alone. Arthur

  22. I was told by the manager of my local Tandy (New Orleans) that the BOGO offer had been stopped back in early spring but there was a coupon in the last Skiver for a free craft tool.
  23. Thank you very much for the info. I now have a project for this weekend. I hope mine turns out as nice as yours did. I may add a little bit of carving before I sew it all up tho. Thank you again. Arthur Andersen
  24. I like it alot. I am trying to make the same thing and had run out of ideas. I would love it if you would post a pattern. It would be a great project for lots of folks. What did you use for a closure thingy? Velcro ? Magnetic clasp? Arthur Andersen
