  1. Very nice, but the facial features could use a little work. Do you have Stohlman's book on figure carving? It covers this in detail and will be a great help. I've never done human faces in leather before, but I've tried my hand at horses and dogs, and kept Stohlman's book at my elbow as I worked! The facial features are the trickiest part of carving, that's for sure! I certainly didn't get it right the first time around...
  2. Farrier found an abscess developing on my horse's sole when shoeing her. He cleaned it out, packed it and put a piece of leather over the sole of her hoof, held in place by the shoe. Unless you get one of those fancy hoof coverings, like Easy Boots (TM) there's no way other way of keeping dirt out of the wound while it heals. They aren't cheap, and tend to fall off and get lost much more easily than a horseshoe. So, suggest you get her shod for now.
  3. I did that, Chuck. It didn't work. It just gave me the web page for the Revival kit. Thanks, Lonesome Dove. The link works for me!
  4. Doesn't Tandy's Leathercraft Library have some sort of index?? I'm trying to find a particular item, but I'll be darned if I'm going to scroll through 29 pages to find it!! Yet, I can't seem to find an index. What I'm look for is an alternate pattern for their Revival purse, but putting that into the 'search' window just turns up the purse kit!
  5. Funny guy, jcuk! Reminds me of the joke about a woman who asked if her daughter had a newspaper. The daughter gave her a lecture about how no one reads newspapers anymore, and handed her her cell phone instead. Then the daughter got her nose all out of joint when her mom wrecked the cell phone, using it to swat a fly...
  6. What's that for, Frodo? To hang on a Christmas tree? If so, ugh.
  7. Corrected your grammar there. I don't have an appropriate handle. And I'm not going out to buy some bamboo stakes just so I can make a flyswatter.
  8. LOL! I knew sooner or later someone was going to decorate their swatter!
  9. tsunkasapa, what the heck is a 'wetsider'?
  10. LOL, good for you! One of my bikes is a nice CCM ten-speed that someone abandoned when I was working as a gardener for the City of Toronto. One day, some maintenance people came along with a pair of bolt cutters to cut it free from the fence it was chained to. The were going to put it in the dumpster. I asked to take it home, and invested about $120 bucks in a new front wheel (someone ripped it off) and a new, more comfy seat, plus general lubrication, which it badly needed after being out in the open for so many months. Newer CCM bikes are made overseas in China or Taiwan, and are pieces of crap compared to this one! I have also just finished reconditioning a 50 year old Dual record turntable that I got at an estate sale. All it needed was some lubrication - everything is in good working order! Geez, how many things are still working after 50 years? No doubt, we've become a throw away society!
  11. I hear you, Chuck! Locally, some of the people who work at the dump will occasionally rescue things that are too good to toss. I once complained about a perfectly good set of dishes that was tossed, when there was a local family that had just been burned out of their home and needed household items like that. The employee (a woman) immediately rescued them, and didn't mind when I took a small teapot from the set and a sterling silver teaspoon! Still use the teapot now and then. I have been know to shop at the 'curbside boutique'. My two best finds were a lawnmower that was missing its deck, and a dishwasher. The dishwasher had a hole rusted through a panel, but otherwise was in perfect working order. A local appliance shop fixed it for $85. As we were picking it up, the shop owner said, "You DO realize this is a real Cadillac of a machine?" Yup, I knew that because my parents had the EXACT same machine, and it ran for many years without needing any repairs. We used it for many years until we moved to a house that had a built in machine. The lawnmower was equiped with a new deck, and just kept going and going and going. Finally the carbeurator started to leak gas, and I gave it to a local guy who fixes small engines, and bought a mower he'd reconditioned. When I next visited his shop, he'd fixed it up and had it for sale! The one thing I loved about that mower was it was SO easy to start! Even if it had been sitting all winter, all you had to do was prime it, and pull the cord 2 or 3 times, and away you'd go!
  12. They are good for practicing your swivel knife work and tooling. Also for small items like change purses, key fobs, etc. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the last one I bought from Tandy.
  13. I can almost smell the leather and oil! I took guitar lessons for a number of years. The man who owned the building was a cobbler, and his shop shared the basement with the teaching staff of the music shop.
  14. My one comment on this is; "ONLY $100 bucks??"
  15. Just blew a couple of happy hours browsing through these and downloading the ones that interested me!
  16. USCM black is infamous for not staying put. I would NEVER buy it - have heard too many complaints similar to yours! If you DO use it, you have to buff it until your arms fall off before applying any sort of finish. Use the regular black next time.
  17. Kudos to you for doing this! Great job!

  19. What a great video! Thanks for posting it. The part that made me laugh: "It's not too expensive..."
  20. Mtl. Biker, yup, that's for sure! Never noticed that! I bet they confused centimeters with millimeters. If you check the U.S. site, you'll likely get the accurate measurements in inches. Staples prices are pretty outrageous, though they do state what sort of floor or carpet the protectors are for.
  21. Wal Mart sells them too: https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/Transparent-Nonslip-Mat-Chair-Cushion-for-Living-Room-Study-Office-Floor-Protect-Color-Transparent-Size-400-400-1-5mm/2D0ZSUOPLKIS?utm_medium=paid_search&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=always_on&cmpid=SEM_CA_110_YV9M8SR8J2_71700000072956261_58700006365555367&utm_id=SEM_CA_110_YV9M8SR8J2_71700000072956261_58700006365555367&gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=Cj0KCQjw4v2EBhCtARIsACan3nyqoQu7C75K7oKlNGztdC2bt2f9IShOUwX8dcD__xtf8QfQOzMb-4waAiWMEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds I imagine most office supply places will also have them.
  22. Frodo, there's a joke about that, but it's not for this thread. Going to post it in Off Topic...
  23. Can you show us what these bevelers look like, please?
