  1. I've not seen braiding for a stitch before. I love it. I watch a lot of a leatherworker on youtube. leodis leather. He uses sno-seal on the exterior of his knife cases. PS. Since you are waterproofing may I suggest for your braiding cord, use catfish cord. I'm not sure if that's the proper name. You can buy it at Walmart in the fishing department. It's thick cord that's waxed, very strong.
  2. Honestly for hand stitching I can say that using a laser is Awsome! and illogical. Reminds me of Austin Powers with the, shark with a frickin laser beam. Overkill. Although when I bought my granite slab from the local counter top business. They had just bought a new laser. The guy cutting was laser etching his own business cards onto leather.

thanks for that! had not heard of that one.
  4. Honestly, this is how I want to end up. A dead corpse at an October Craft fair. Just kiddin', I want to travel the craft fairs when I retire. Maybe fund my travels? Is this plausible? I've always wondered. and the only thing holding me back is being the guy with the belt booth.
  5. you tell me! I'm about to sew my first knife case and i'm thinking I'll have to redesign the whole thing! to answer your question, it holds, clamps, clams two or more pieces of leather together for stitching.
  6. you have to taste the popcorn before the movie!
  7. Red oak,. and pine. next gen is hinged because I don't have three hands. I'm stress testing, but it's not a bow. I've researched the resin infusion. going for what I know. Ps there is no stress on the screws. 200 then. Haha Done!
  8. 2.0 is scary. I'm an artist. sculpture is my talent. not woodwork. no one has seen the likes of the one I have steaming now.
  9. this was a proof of concept. Just started steaming Clam 2.0. It is functional art. I'm trembling in my boots! I'll have pics of each step and a break down of time spent and materials bought. PS. LOL! I said, ' relative", not irrelevant.... I worked on it every day for a week after work, during commercials, over the weekend, lost track of time because it was fun:). I also lowballed the materials because they will extend the more I make.(didn't even add brass screws dowels and fromers tongue oil, sand paper...etc. Art my friend.

Ashley's Book of Knots is the encyclopedia of knots. It's been mentioned in the past I am sure, but since this topic seems to be dead I thought I might reinvigorate it. I first became interested in knots in the Navy. Here is a 17 strand French sennet, leather cord. The rose knot is my favorite.
  11. NIce set! ...I hate you...I bought an Ivan Damascus round knife last year and thought my x-acto craft knives would be good enough for other tasks. Now I have to spend more money!! ...I don't hate you... Just green:)
  12. Thanks for the website. I now know where all my extra money is going. Beautiful tools. I think half of the appeal of this hobby for me is the collecting.
  13. nearly blew beer out of my nose. Best belly laugh in a while!
  14. My prayers go out to you and your family. Remember to cut away from your fingers. Maybe wear gloves when typing on your computer? Sounds dangerous.
  15. Much appreciated. I'm excited to make version 2. Any advice on a fair price? Materials were about 20 bucks. time was... relative, a few minutes a day for a week.
  16. This prototype is done. I'll still tinker with it, heh heh, but this works just fine. It's so fat it rests very comfortably between my legs on the couch or at my bench.
  17. necessity is the mother of invention. Not form or money. I like your raw intensity. This week I wanted to bend an oak plank, I didn't have a table vise so I looked in my car trunk to find something that would hold wood in place, I was looking for rope and found a ratchet strap. I didn't have a steambox. So I spent $8 at Walmart for a stock pot (I wasn't bending 6 feet of timber!). I used another ratchet strap to pull and bend my board. leverage. That was the key. Not a bench vise and a mold. a little more shaping to finish. then tongue oil. a wooden ball for a 360 pivot attatched to my bench:)
  18. the balance happened by intuition. the shape is a katana. I dig the the 40 and 50's!
  19. I'm a maker, I love to create something from nothing. I also like to improve and make cooler the tools that I need. Although this isn't specific to leather, my x-acto is one of a kind. It's a tool we all use. ( This was a piece of cedar from my back yard. All done with a Mouse sander and dremel tool.) What are your hand made tools?
  20. nice 10/6 hat. The cuffs are brilliant. Your materials blend flawlessly on the mask, Nice work. I'm inspired:)
  21. OKay 'Doc', and that is whom you are, for those are surgical tools. That being said, you need an old style doctors house call bag to do those beautiful tools justice. Thank you for the inspiration!
  22. I'm just a muggle but, how do you make your stamps?
