  1. So much better than mine! I love it! I had the same thought for the saddle. Amazing! Now I have to make another
  2. Good luck guys. Please keep me posted about this.
  3. I put my leather on a board and used a drill to make holes then cut out the doughnuts with scissors. I may be a little outside of the box.
  4. I've seen the site, and all I can find. Yet pics keep showing up here that I haven't seen! I would move to france to work in this shop.
  5. you are killin' me. I'll design it for free then go find a blacksmith. I went to college for graphic design.
  6. I spent a week looking for this and you have one. I bought a cheap crappy version of that clamp! LOL! Been researching compound bows to learn resin impregnating wood. please tell me what the hardware in the 'tightening system' is. I'm pretty sure its a leverage lock. It slides up to lock? (If it doesn't then I have a patent.) my ideas for a working model are Neanderthal compared to that.
  7. I want to try Hex N Hit https://youtu.be/U3JDQzETO-g Stick with Mutt. It works!
  8. There has to be some story's here. I just picked a name. I'm still trying to decide on an actual 'mark'. Mjolnir is the name of Thor's hammer. A former boss used to call me hammer because I was a useful tool, I hated it, but I owned it. It was on my mind when I came to this site and it was an open name so...
  9. I'm personalizing my tools. Trying new ideas. I've found one photo of a stacked leather handle for an awl on here. Still learning to search I guess. I figured out what stacked leather was two days ago, so cut me some slack. I'm interested in all ideas, resin uses, products used, wood carving, molds made, you name it. I was bored yesterday and after seeing a pic of stacked leather, I had to try it. This is a cheepo tandy swivel knife, scrap leather that was tooled. I used barges cement and burnished with beeswax. I probably saw this shape somewhere because It's more comfy than my pricey knife.
  10. Am I the only one thinking a sharpie marker might be the easiest route? pick your color.
  11. I was asked about a few details on the wood and I realized I should share this technique. I might have posted it on another thread. But here is how to bend you a clam today for the price of the wood. Rule 1. Use a hardwood. I tried poplar 1st for the price and it folds. Pine is said to not hold a bend very well. My only other choice at my local lowes was red oak in their craftwood. I went with 4' x 6" x 1/2". fifteen bucks. I cut it in half, hence the half clam. the leg on of these just didn't seem necessary to me. ( my idea for a cheap extendable leg. is drill a hole in the bottom. cut off a hiking pole from Walmart and glue it in!) Using an $8 stockpot from Walmart I boiled the 2' pieces of oak, 1' or half at a time for two separate bends. Boil for a half hour. work quickly to bend it. Be firm. Once the wood is cooled to room temp it will keep the form. I left longer till it was almost dry. heres my setup for bending with stuff I had. Everything was eyeballed and guestimated. I have a strong art back ground so this is easy for me. I suggest visualizing a spot on the wall so all of your bends match and pay attention to putting your wood the same distance under your block or whatever you use. The rest was shaping with a sander. I had my first one bent the day I went to lowes for the wood. After seeing a guy on you tube in England boil some wood. ratchet straps in the photo. a dowel to keep even pressure. with out the dowel it warps the wood. PS I bent the bottom of the clam first before doing the big bend of the mouth.
  12. Try a flamethrower. I did my bit cleaning public restrooms
  13. I highly recommend hammockforums.net from it's style it's got to be a sister site to this one. It's how I got here. They have moved about a 1000 years into the future on this topic. I have a spool of cord ( thin enough I can sew with it, ill have to look up the name) that can support 1000 lbs with no stretch. pretty sure its the poly that stretches. http://zpacks.com/accessories/spectra_cord.shtml
  14. he's using a stirrup to clench the clam. Cool add-on!
  15. does that pinch together or hold apart. looks like hold apart. I'm half done making one to see.
  16. brilliant. but never ever, ever lay down your sandwich while working.
  17. Show that cool bench you've got. and details to go with it! My theory is you cut up a work out bench for this stuff.
  18. I needed something new to do today and I was inspired by a pic of stacked leather to be made into a handle. I have two swivel knives one is an ergonomic, not cheap, knife the other is a, throw away tandy starter. So I had a waste of space to improve ( never post that you have a tool to... nevermind). I shaped it with my trusty beltsander and mouse sander. the handle is from my better knife just because. I mottled a little dye and burnished with beeswax.
  19. What I've enjoyed about the posts here, more than anything else, are the moments that I spot something in the background of a photo. The, 'What is that!?' moment. The craftsmanship and ingenuity of the members here are unparalleled. Please share how you have modified a tool, created a tool, or made something that makes the craft unique, personalized, or easier.
  20. funny that I'm the only non redneck in town! I don't own a single camouflaged piece of clothing. this is a funny idea, but it may have actual merit for someone making small leather goods. this idea is copyright every half penny earned must go to the family of the inventor of the fork. here I was about to make a joke about a crab (Fork) clam. and these little beauties popped up. There are potential leather tools everywhere!
  21. I agree. I've sanded down the points on the Klingon. Tight isn't a problem when you glue and screw these things together. A Hinge is the scary part.
  22. I wasn't going to say anything. I also am not mentioning the shoes. I keep thinking of Michael J Fox in back to the future 3. seriously great work!
