Singer And Adler Interchangeable Parts
shoepatcher replied to HollowMan's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Adler large bobbin shoe patchers like the 30-7 and 30-70 can use the same bobbin and hooks as those used on a large bobbin Singer shoe patchers like the 29K55, 29k60, 29K72, 29K172. Hope that helps. shoepatcher -
Trox, I just found out this past Thursday some interesting news from Michael Simards in Canada. They are the Adler rep for all of Canada. I talked to Michael personally. Seems he has genuine parts for Adler machines going back over 40 years. He has some parts for the 5 class Adlers as well as other old Adlers although we did not get into specifics. . Thought the members would like to know this fact. I do not have the phone number in front of me but you can find it on line. They have a website. If you know the part number, ask for Nora or Michael. They may or may not have it but is worht a try and Michael told some of these parts are no longer manufactured. glenn miller quote name='Trox' timestamp='1331667896' post='239191'] Hi Buffalobill, I have an Adler class 5-27; it is the same machine as the 5-8. The 5-8 has bottom feed and a jump foot, forward and reverse. The class 5 is the forerunner of the class 105. I also have a 105-25 but I prefer to use my old class 5. My 5-27 sews 14 mm tick heavy leather; the jump foot works great on leather. The machine was made for sewing medium and heavy leather, having a bottom feed it will sometimes set marks on the leather. However, not as much as a bottom feed only machine will. The jump-foot takes away some of the pressure from the feed dog, when the foot jumps with the feed. Adjusted the right way, markings on the leathers backside is not a big issue. The stitch pattern is even and fine. This is the yesterday's saddler machine, and cannot compare to the modern triple feed 441 or Adler 205-370 saddlers machine. Nevertheless, the build quality and materials is superb, I will not part with my machine. I will sell my newer Adler 105 and 204, but my class 5 stays. Made before the WW2 and still in new condition. The class 5 uses the same shuttle/bobbin as the class 105 first came with, some of the later 105 machines have changed their to the new big 204/205 shuttle. Using the new industry standard bobbin, same as the classes 204, 205, 441 and clones. The Adler class 5 cylinder bed, class 4 flat bed and Singer class 45 flat/cylinder bed (Similar machine from Singer) served Leather workers faithfully for over a half century. The Adler 205, Juki 441 and clones is now the new standard in the saddler business. Made in China, only time will tell if they last as long as the old class 5 did. Trox

Antique Boot Patchers, Non-Singer
shoepatcher replied to Chipster's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Chipster, That sound like and early Claes or Durkopp. Can you get some pics of the machine and put them on the forum? I or other memebers may be able to identify it. If it is indeed one of these machines, there are no parts for it available. I may manuals on the machine. -
Can we get more pictures of this machine? This is the first Claes machine I have seen that is not a shoepatcher. Shoepatcher

This is an early version of the 105-8 cylinder machine. I think it was a forward only machine with no reverse. shoepatcher .

Bob Kovar should have the three parts you need. If not, i think I have them but I am leaving on holiday for 10 days tomorrow. glenn miller shoepatcher

Rob, Sorry for getting back to you so late. Pictures were good. As far as parts go, you seem to only be missing the slide plate, part #15508 in the old parts number system. Glad you were able to find the slide plate for $55.00 which is not to bad a price. I have the parts list and operations manual. Email me at shoepatcher@yahoo.com and I will get your phone number and call you. Pfaff made the best post machine of any manufacturer until recently. shoepatcher
-
Please post some pictures of the machine so we can see what if anything is missing on the machine. Pictures from the back, front, sides and top would be helpful as well as a picture of the brass plate with the model and serial number on it. I have manuals on the machine. shoepatcher

Elliot , Can you send me some other pictures of the machine? I may be able to better indenfity the machine. It looks like a early Claes but the stenciling on the balance wheel is different. I have a few of the antique Claeses in storage glenn miller email: shoepatcher@yahoo.com

3Rd Party Parts For Pfaff 335?
shoepatcher replied to Laplanderbags's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Laplanderbags, If you can get me the part numbers, I may have a source for parts for you. I have a parts book for the old style casting of the machine. Is your machine the old style casting? shoepatcher -
Anyone out there got a copy of a Pfaff 335 cylinder parts list? I am looking for one for the old casting style, not the new 335-G. Thanks in advance. glenn miller

Steve, Juki bought Nakajima some years ago and keep a lot of the machines, sometimes keeping the same model number, sometimes changing it. Bob Kovar should know if they kept this machine and that should help you with the part. shoepatcher ] Howdy, I am in desperate need of a part for my sewing machine, I am in the middle of 11 pair of chaps and I have broke the take up spring somehow, so I am kinda screwed right now. My machine is a Nakajima DDN-738, I need a new take up spring part # 2014. here is a scan of the part. If anyone can help me please PM me, email me, flynsaddle at shaw.ca or phone me, 403-615-4616. Thanks much Steve

UKRay, Like all sewing machinses, it depends on the machine and what you are wanting to sew with it. Adler machines are great but it also depends on how and who set them up. I would like to know the model of the used Adler you are currently considering. I have a 69-373 Adler I am just gettting ready to set up. It is a used machine and I will know maor eabout ti as I ger it set up and sewn off. Give us more on what you want to sew and the size thread you want to use. Servo motors are great if set up properly. shoepatcher

I agree with Trox. This was an early 30 class Adler that was originally black. To me, it does not look that good. I would want to see sewn samples. Plus, this has the old style balance wheel on it. Withowu sewn samples, I would not buy it. shoepatcher
-
Custom Doug, I would want to see pics of the machine as well as being able to sew some samples which is not always possible. What color is the machine? Black, green or grey. The color is one sign of the age of the machine. Contrary to some of the postings on this board, some parts are no longer available for these early models of the 30 class machine Adler. To answer yoru question, $350.00 may be a good price fo rthe machine once I have seen pics of it. Also, what do you intend to sew with this machine? shoepatcher

As a member of this Forum and a long time sewer and sewing machine person, I was wondering if anyone out there has a list or book on the old Singer screws. I have later edtitions of the Singer screw books as well as the spec book on all the SS singer screws, nuts and rollers. I even have book containing the early Singer screws starting with Screw #1. What I am looking for is the book or books that have the specs on the screws, i.e. the pitch and diameter of a particular screw. Singer's numbers from #1-1500 were for screws, #1501-1800 was for nuts and #1801-2000 was for the rollers. Some selected screws which are still made are available in different sewing machine parts catalogues. Singer in Tennessee cannot even help me with this problem even though i knew they had these reference books available some 15 years ago when I needed the specs on a few screws. I got to believe someone has a copy of the early Singer screw specs book somewhere and i am very interested in getting a copy if at all possible. shoepatcher

Trox, The Adler 5-27 you have is an early version of the Adler 105. Both the 105 and 104 class shuttles used the following screws: Tension screw part #992 00 560 0. Locking screw for locking the tension screw once set is part # 992 00 812 0. If neither of these work, Singer manufactured a number of screws with 3/32 dia. They made ones with a 56 pitch and onces with 64 pitch. Which do you need? Once you know, we can find a screw for you. shoepatcher

Old Adler 4-4 Heavy Leather Sewing Machine Manual Wanted!
shoepatcher replied to Vaquero1's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Vaquero1, The Adler class 4 machine was the forrunner to the 104 class. The 4-4 was for sewing leather covers, traveling bags, coach works, etc. It has a moveable presser foot. It might be similar to the 104-2, 104-25, 104-6 0r 104-8. I am not certain which one. That would help in trying to find a operations and parts manual. We need pictures of the feet and feeding system to better know what machine is was the early version of. Hope that helps. -
