  1. The only downside is those 25mm keepers aren't an 'exact' match, their plating is something different... but it works ok for the appearance.
  2. Hmm, I see what you are saying. On the 25mm belts the holes do jump out at you. Hadn't really noticed it before. Haha The buckles and keepers I got from Adelaide saddlery and leather... took me a long time to find something I liked this much! Their sales and service were great too. http://www.adelaideleather.com.au/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=49
  3. Made these dress belts for some customers. 25mm and 38mm. The leather is vegetable tanned with a pigment coating. Looks really nice and consistent in finish, but won't be as durable as an aniline finish I know. Still, these belts were about price point.
  4. That should go the distance For the hole punch, I tried this with success: For the dog... try Cesar Milan
  5. Good work! My sister is learning taxidermy, it is an interesting craft. Always hate to see roadkill going to waste.
  6. I have a pro edge burnisher, they are great! Just used a $30 bench mounted grinder, swapped the grinding wheel for a drill chuck with a matching thread diameter, and inserted the burnisher. After a few adjustments to get it spinning perfectly level, it is working perfectly! As far as speed goes, yeah it's probably a little fast for my liking, and I can't change to other settings.... but I get around that with faster passes, and more of them. Also, what is too fast for one piece of leather is just about right for the next, even when cut from the same area of the same hide! Just treat every piece as it comes. Start easy, and you won't damage it. Good thinking on the motor though!
  7. Nicely done! Looks really great, especially the tooling.
  8. Hahahaha, well that's perfect! Leaves room for her to carry the stuff you don't want to
  9. Wow GREAT job on that one! Really nice design too... better not show my wife or I'll have to try make one for her...
  10. Hmm... How to start? Today I had a cool idea. But this idea has come from deeper roots. I like to spend some of my social time playing tabletop war games. Specifically warhammer 40,000 by games workshop. There is a massive community out there, attracting all types of people... Some of us are the kind of people that like to dress up as Space Marines for the comic conventions... though some people go above and beyond in engaging and serving that community. Commissar Warwick is one such contributor. His YouTube channel has been an excellent source of information and entertainment for me and many others. But what a lot of people don't realise is just how much work goes into creating all of the content, editing, responding to subscribers, and more in support of these channels that are entirely free to access. So with that in mind, when Commissar Warwick asked subscribers to submit a single model to him, so that he could engage with us and form a subscriber platoon that would be fielded in games, I answered and sent him a model. It will be very cool to see it on YouTube while being used in games. But, while I was at it I thought "surely I can do more than that", so I sent him this extra gift (see video), of a book cover to say thank you for all that he does for the community. I didn't expect him to make a video about it, but I'm sure glad he did. Not only did he plug my page, he gave me a little insight into how people feel when they unbox something that people like you and me have poured our time and attention into... and it was a good feeling to hear some of the words he used to describe it! And now to the idea I spoke about earlier: I throw down the gauntlet. I challenge all of you to think of someone who has made a positive impression on you in a unique way, and make them something for gratis. Post your story and the results below!
  11. So does this mean you officially classify as a copy cat, copy cat? Good job though, looks really great. I am sure your mate will appreciate it!
  12. It's a good feeling, right! Looking good, will be nice to see the finished products.
  13. That is some excellent work there mate! Just watched the video on the train ride home from work, very well done there too! i'll be sure to subscribe.
  14. Off to a good start! Welcome aboard mate.
  15. That is as I suspected but wasn't sure if you needed to secure it any further. Also, how do you find the suede holds up against moisture, or dirt and debris?
  16. Draftsight is a free download. Could be worth looking into.
  17. Welcome! Thats a great find, I'd like to see the holster too
  18. OK so I just got back from East Coast Leather. They are very helpful, have tonnes of great leather at good prices and I'll surely be going back next time I need more leather! I was literally running around like a kid in a candy store. As for the strap lengths, we measured up the ones they had cut already but only got to maximum of about 1400mm (55"). Which is probably a bit short for what you're looking for. Maybe call and talk to them, and they may be able to help you out. but there was nothing readily available there that I saw. they also didn't have much in the way of buckles and hardware that I could see. but I absolutely got what I was looking for, which is great quality leather for great prices. Actually picked up twice as much as I expected for my budget. And I could choose for myself, unlike mail ordering, which makes a BIG difference.
  19. Yeah for what you are doing you need veg tan, for sure. Chrome tan only even stamps half decently if you use a hot stamp. Reason I was surprised about the bridle leather tooling so well is because it is so water resistant that it is hard to case (wet) the leather. Easiest way to tell if something is chrome tan (though not always works) is to cut a bit off. If you can see a little grey coloured line near the surface it is probably chrome tanned. But if it isn't chrome tanned it could have been tanned with other properties (oils, fat liquors, or surface treatment) like bridle leather is, to help waterproof it... or it may just be lower grade veg tan and doesn't tool as well as some premium stuff. I bought some tooling leather before that was a bit like that, and some other stuff that tooled like a dream.
  20. Yeah that turned out really well! I didn't expect bridle leather would tool that well actually... goes to show how much impact chrome tanning has on that sort of thing.
