  1. Great job, love the layout and the tooling is so crisp. The color is great could you explain the process you used Bobby
  2. out standing...really love it
  3. I second the suggestion on Chucks video, great source. Another is to check the online auction houses for western antiques. They show some great examples from different time periods.
  4. It's a cheap tandy background tool set, comes in four sizes I think. It is a very simple and fast to use, gives a great texture and hides any dings or scratches that a customer may get on the piece.
  5. It is a hard question to answer. I can't say it is an artist thing it is just years looking at saddles and tack done by old timers and what I like. Some patterns get he camo's and veiners. Some times its just being Old and forgetting to add a tool.
  6. Thanks everyone...... it's great to get feedback The third book is made with a stamp from a guy in NV. I added the small seeder in the design to break up the circles that are formed and move the eye to see it differenly
  7. Finally had time around the holsters to get some new notebooks done for inventory. Tried some new things out of my comfort zone.

  12. Looks great, those are fun orders...... Side note I just figured out that we have met before....I had a rodeo sound business and we worked together at Vancouver WA. (Bob Thain) rodeo and some others... Your leather works is great and really enjoy seeing it.
  13. Try http://www.greyghostgraphics.com/transfer.html they make them.
  14. I have a setter that I picked up for a couple of dollars shown below. I have also set them with out the setter. I just back the rivet with metal and carefully pound the stud down onto the rivet usually in tight places that the setter can't get into. I have also used the technique that you have suggested. I just like the stud personally as I have gotten in a lot of repairs of holsters that belonged to dad, grandpa or other family members with sentimental value where snaps have failed because of years of use. I know that your holsters will be around for many generations of use.
  15. Great work, only suggestion is maybe changing out the snap for a good quality, large riveted sam brown stud. Snaps will go bad and that is going to be a major problem down the road replacing that one. Studs were used on military holsters and hardware I know of from early 1860's clear through 1900's. Research shows they only changed because it was cheaper to produce with the snaps. The original artifacts that I have seen from the civil war some 150 years old the stud system is still as good today as it was coming off the makers bench. I am working on a couple of scabbards and will post them when I get done.

  22. I am one that believes in both ways of learning. We do need a Guild in the Portland area. I would love to support one but I don't have the time or resources to be the contact person. I would help in providing printed material and other needed items. What we need is someone to step up and be the person to schedule a meeting date, location and time. Some one to be available to return calls and emails, to answer questions and general information until we can get the Guild established and more permanent people in place. A Guild can provide possible discounts on purchases, general information on techniques, assistance in bringing in top quality instructors, and place to share. I would also like to see more done in working with the fairs in our area to include more in leather crafting and to show case our local talent.
  23. Fantastic job..... I have been thinking about doing some shoulder styles but haven't had the energy to do it....
  24. Great job on everything, colors are great.
