Guys, I have a brand new spool of bonded nylon Tippmann thread I don't need. White, size Z-277. It's about 5" tall and a couple in diameter. Anyone want it, free? Cheers, Karl

I have a Midas 'standard swivel knife', still in it's blister display pack, unopened. It says it's made by the Kelly Tool Co. New Zealand. Am I right in thinking the company no longer exists? Does anybody know anything about these knives? It's brass and wood with a black metal finger cradle. I don't know much about swivel knives, but the blade apears to be blackened or blued steel , about 3/8" wide and angled down to a point. Cheers, Karl

Michael, Sorry to hear about your bad luck. I can see you're already moving forward mentally, that's a good start. Your new wallet won't ever be the old one, but it'll be yours and it'll be unique, as only a hand crafted item can be. Cheers, Karl

How You Can Help Leatherworker.net
badger replied to Johanna's topic in Announcements and Administrivia
Johanna I have to say thank you as well. It's an amazing place. I haven't been here long, but it feels like home. Cheers, Karl -
Guys, I went mad when I first started out and bought too many tools (we all do it, come on...). So here are three knives for sale. The old knife has no maker's mark but is good quality steel and measures 6 inches wide. The two smaller knives are Danny Marlins and are four inches wide. Reasonable offers only. I'm also open to trades, I'm after a good quality half inch French skiver/edger. Email me at karl(at)karlderrickdotcom Cheers, Karl

Hi, Welcome. Everyone here is very friendly and generous. This is a great place for the beginner and experienced leatherworker. You'll like it. Are leatherworking supplies and materials easy to get in Thailand? I would imagine Ray and Shark would be pretty easy to find, but can you get the basics like veg-tanned tooling leathers? Where do you live? I worked in Bangkok for a while and was a Scuba diving instructor in Pattaya for a few years. Cheers, Karl

Guys, This stuff is great! I ordered a small pot from UKRay and it arrived today (Thanks Ray!). It's a great product. I've tried it out on all kinds of different leathers today. It works in leaving a silky feeling finish and buffs out to a very dignified, gentle sheen. Smells fantastic too. I cased and boned out a piece of Veg tan shoulder, let it dry a bit, and worked the cream in with my fingers as Ray suggested. Even undyed, the leather took on a lovely golden tone with just a couple of applications. I let it dry out for a while and buffed it. Looks fantastic, real quality. Just thought I'd share this. I think Ray still has some...... Cheers, Karl

Hi Cory, I get my hides the same as everyone else, they arrive rolled. I wanted to set up a new workbench with space under the worktop to store all my leather flat. But it isn't really a practical solution for me as it's hard to handle and get at the stuff I want in my limited workspace. What I do now is to open the rolled packages when they arrive and punch a couple of holes near the edge of each hide. I then hang the hides on hooks high up on the shop wall. I use an old horse blanket to cover them so they don't get a suntan and dry out. They're accessible and convenient but safe from harm and the dreaded UV light. They stay nice and flat, the roll just drops out after a while. I have some pieces which are a couple of years old and they are soft as when they came. Hope this helps, Karl

I think working tidily helps keep your head organised. Great shop! Karl

Patrick, I motorized my 45k. It wasn't difficult. I don'tknow what kind of stand you're referring to. Can you post some pictures? Generally, if a machine goes onto a stand, it'll come off without too much hassle. As far as motorizing, you need to buy the right motor (clutched) and make sure the leather or rubber drive belt is correctly tensioned. Cheers, Karl

Sorry to jump in. Where would I be able to buy Shark leather? Is it fairly easy to find? Thanks, Karl

Books on historic gunleather
badger replied to badger's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I appreciate that. In the course of my work I've learned to research things very carefully and from as wide a perspective as possible. So I'll always look for several sources of the same material to be sure. Thanks very much though, I'll look forward to Santa bringing the book. Cheers, Karl -
Geordie, I'm not certain my messages are getting through. Can you give me a call? 0208 575 7550 Cheers, Karl

Geordie, I don't know of any tanners who sell Moose hide. Does it have to be Moose? I'm intrigued to know what the project is Cheers, Karl

Hi, I like the design, very cool. I had an idea for something similar, but as a larger bag with a bandolier type strap running across the chest. Good job, Karl
