  1. I also am not a big fan of the western floral design... but I can still appreciate the amount of work and talent that went into these boots. Fantastic work! Also a great idea to give the belt as a gift. I’m sure she will be very happy and will most likely guarantee another order. Brilliant!
  2. Wow, that would be great. thanks. the deerskin I have was bought in Italy while on holiday. It is the softest leather I have and is probably only 1mm thick. cant think of any other use for it. Its too soft for an apron . looking forward to trying something new.
  3. Can we see pictures of your leather? Or do you have a web site?
  4. I’m sorry for jumping the gun and replying so fast at defending myself. When you quoted me and added “Or possibly get out a fresh sheet of graph paper, and begin to draw or draft a measured pattern, of your own delightful design” I thought you were having a go at me and others for stripping down other bag designs. Again, I apologize for picking you up wrong.
  5. Why do I feel like I’m being chastised here? I must buy a pattern from Tandy or other suppliers that I don’t like and alter it so I may like it? Or I must be a designer and design my own pattern? I and others like to work with leather. Not everyone is blessed with the skills or desire to make their own patterns with graph paper. I have no problem paying for a pattern that I do like and have done so before. But If I see a bag or purse that I do like the design, I also have no problem buying it and stripping it down to see how it was made and then altering it to my individual preference.
  6. I agree with finding a nice purse or bag you like and ripping it apart for the pattern. It’s to hard to find the pattern you prefer online or from leather shops.
  7. They’re great looking clam’s. This is my set up when I’m stitching bigger items.
  8. That’s something I’d like to do... I have a lovely piece of deerskin I could use for gloves. If anyone has a pattern please send it this way too. Thanks.
  9. I am! Are you visiting Ireland any time soon?? Lol! Happy Christmas.
  10. Great layout to your shop. Plenty of room to work in. Stitching clam, haven’t seen one like it before. Did you make it?
  11. what about adding it to a seat/horse? That would be something!!!
  12. Q I don’t know how I missed this thread?? That’s looking fantastic! Is this the one you were going to put on a swivel?
  13. Hi, That is an impressive set of tools in such a small bag. Great idea. And I can see you’re well able to use them.
  14. And I’ve bought some tools from this guy. https://www.instagram.com/kevinlee4426 really nice quality.
  15. Are you serious... have you looked at the quality of some Chinese tool makers and leather workers? Im not talking about Aliexpress and Alibaba. Here is a link to one that I follow on Instagram. Have a look. https://www.instagram.com/6t_leather_works
  16. Have you looked at any of the Chinese makers? ive bought some beautiful tools from there. I’m waiting for a 500g mallet and a skiving knife at the moment. I keep an eye for good tool makers on instragram.
  17. Thanks. you know I don’t really know... I bought some leather from a shoe factory. I do know it’s bovine, 2mm chrome tanned. It is used for shoes and bags and is quite flexible but not stretchy.
  18. Thank you. yeah... the stitching. I sewed half of this one night while watching tv and didn’t take too much care. Had to rip it all back and do it again.
  19. Nothing to laugh at here. Thats a great sewing machine! Nice wooden toolbox in the background. Did you make it?
  20. Looking at the pattern from that side view looks great. Is the floral design your own or from a book?
  21. You know... This topic has more than 4000 views! That’s great, But... There must be a few of you holding back on showing your work spaces? We are not here to criticize at all. I for one love to see everyone’s work station no matter how small or untidy. I also am always looking for better, nicer tools and ideas to incorporate in my own space. From the selection of photos already poster you all can see that there is a wide range on work areas, So... post your photos! Be proud of your work areas, be proud of your work!
  22. Hi all, just finished this note pad cover for someone as a Christmas present. The leathers is a nice soft 2mm shoe leather, it’s fully lined with pigskin and hand sewn. Ive been working on my hand sewn but it’s not as good as I would like. While working on the stitches, i did figure out how to make the stitches better. So.. on the next project I hope to see a difference. As someone said “more than once...” Stitching is like gravy. It’s only great if you make it every day. Or something like that... You know who you are! Or at least everyone else does!! Happy Christmas to all. Ive really enjoyed this forum this year, Thank you all. Ger.
  23. Looking great! your carving and stamping skills are coming on well. Did you sew it with a machine?
