I’ve bought 3 different sizes awls, 2 sets of stitching chisels (regular and inverse), a skiving knife, a small half moon knife, a curve cutting knife, a creaser and a 500g mallet from him over the past year and every tool is amazing quality. I’ve looked around Instagram for good tools and his seemed to be one of the best quality and at reasonable prices.

Very impressive! My mother will be 83 next month and she is also very active... Last year she had to go to hospital to have the fingers on her hand repaired, She was mowing the grass and went to clean the grass out of the mower blades but forgot to turn the engine off. Didn’t stop her though, she is now a bit more careful of turning the mower off now. -
Can anyone tell me what kind of stitch this is?

That’s great stitching. Can you put a link to your YouTube video here please? -
Looks great! I can't even see where you placed those magnets? Are they in the flowers?

56 this Saturday. I don't know how to act my age, because I've never been this old before. -

Just curious... does it take long to tan a skin? looking at the back stitching ( picture is a bit fuzzy when I zoom in ) I think you need to tighten the screw on your bobbin to pull your stitches tighter? -

That looks great! Love the stitching, did you hand sew any of that? Ive been using my machine a lot lately and it takes a lot of practise to get it right. How does the back look? -

I’ve bought leather from Tandy, Metropolitan from Uk, Buyleatheronline from Italy and some from a small shop in Dublin Ireland. What I bought in Ireland I was happy with because I was able to handle the product before buying. The leather from Tandy wasn’t finished very well at all. I bought black dyed bridle leather in two thicknesses from Metropolitan and both thicknesses were wrong and the black dye never stops rubbing off. I received my second purchase from buyleatheronline today and each time I was completely happy with the leather. I also purchased a lot of different types of leather from a shoe factory a few months ago and was able to see what I was buying first so I am very happy with that also. By the sounds of it... you bought from buyleatheronline and weren’t happy? -
Useful, easy to use design software - and it's free.

Thank you! I will certainly have a look. Also I love the laminate idea. I’ve been cutting my patterns out of 2mm pvc sheeting I have in work, very difficult to cut with a knife. -
31 Pen Pouches
KingsCountyLeather replied to Rolandranch's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Brilliant job and a great idea to supply a nice leather cover to protect a very nice pen! The cost of the cover wouldn’t be a lot but if I bought a special pen I would keep a leather cover forever also. Nicely sewn too!- 26 replies

I made the box stitching jig a while back and I took it apart to show you how I cut it up from a square piece of oak. The piece of wood can be any length, the end of my piece was 3 inches square but if I was doing it again I would look for 4 inches.

You’ve been watching Instagram... I’ve saved lots of pictures of amazing sewing by other leather workers. It’s what I try to imitate when I’m stitching my own projects and even if I get anywhere close to the perfection that they create... I’m doing alright!

@bikermutt07 I’m only having a bit of a laugh... I have to say... I think you’re the most thoughtful and friendly guy on this forum! You’re almost always the first one to welcome a new leather worker and always have a good word for every new project (good or bad) and always willing to give advise (good or bad ) and even sometimes have a laugh at you’re own expense. I often wonder when you sleep? keep up the good work! And work on those stitches...

Ok @bikermutt07, you keep suggesting this... Last night I cut up a goatskin in to 8 wallets, a total of 48 pieces. I will assemble them when I have time. After I had got this far... I thought of you and realised that if my measurements are wrong? All my wallets could be ruined. Maybe a single prototype that the new leather worker is happy with first and then multiple of that to practise on would be better?

Who makes the clicker dies for you? Thats an amazing amount of stuff. There’s a lovely smell of leather as I walk into my workshop you must get a high from the sell of leather in your shop?

Really nice work. Stitching looks good! -
I think it’s great that you improvised and didn’t let a stitching pony stop you from making leather goods. I would wrap a piece of leather around the wood to stop it marking the project. Yeah... stitching is not as easy as it looks.

At 3:14 in this video, have a look at the placement of the blade against the roller. This is how your blade should look. then you can adjust the thickness to what ever you like. if this doesn’t work, I’ll just have to call over to your place and fix it for you! oh dam... I don’t know where you live?

Practise stitching
KingsCountyLeather replied to KingsCountyLeather's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Oh man... thanks for the complement but that’s not my stitching. I was merely showing us new leather workers that practising stitching does pay off. -
It’s more important to have the very edge of the sharp blade in line with the exact top of the roller.
