  1. Slippery needles. I’ve only been leather working for a short while and learned a lot from this forum. one of the best tips I’ve received so far is using latex finger covers when I’m hand stitching. I’ve used pliers and I’ve used bees wax to grip the needles but when I use these finger covers (I only use them on my thumbs) I can sew all day long. Maybe this will help someone else who’s having problems gripping needles and maybe others will share other ideas that have worked well for them. It would also help if you gave a heading for the tip at the top first for easy searching? And maybe one tip per entry? But as often as you like. Thanks for sharing. Ger.
  2. I like that idea! Must look for one of those.
  3. Pinterest is a great place for inspiration, I use it all the time. Another is Instagram but you have to look a little harder.
  4. And they do get rich. Why is thread so expensive?
  5. All the tooling looks great but I especially love the front! And also the way you joined the back and front together, gives it a heavier look to it. Great job! I too would like to see the inside?
  6. I’ve never installed a zipper into a bag or ladies wallet, would you like to try that?
  7. Ya see... No need for a photo!! This is my ugly mug.
  8. This is the only forum I am an active member of. I have started others and even forgot my own name in them when I returned When the show your shop thread was started and did so well, I was going to ask why we didn’t put our real pictures in our profile and then decided it must be a privacy thing on computers? But it would be nice to see who we’re talking to face to face? @Mjolnir and @bikermutt07 did ?
  9. I had mine made by this guy. I know he makes the awl haft’s as well. Good prices too!
  10. Such a nice bag! Nice finish, stitching looks great and I had a look at the building video and you did great there too! I look forward hopfully to seeing lots more from you!
  11. They’re great looking knives! What type of blade/steel did you use?
  12. I would be interested in that leather. What would I look for on your web page? And price? Thanks.
  13. What would your thinnest leather be for wallet and bag making? Without special ordering.
  14. I’ve been looking at your past projects, really good work! I have a couple of questions... When you are sewing with Lin cable thread, what size needles do you use and are they Johnjames needles? Did you ever finish the wooden stump? You returned to leather working early 2017, how much experience did you have before then?
  15. I would also like to know if you have any goat leather very thin (about .5mm thick) ?
  16. We had a snow storm here and it shut us down for a few days and that’s when i decided to make my bag. Thanks for the nice comments. When you make your crease line, do you purposely burn the line into the leather or is that a shadow? Nice and crisp! And the dark line is a nice contrast. What is the thickness of the leather?
  17. I’m sure it will turn out perfect! You’re such an inspiration to other leather workers and showing us all the process you have to go through. This satchel I finally sewed together last night is my first bag to make. It is a lot of work and even though its not finished and also not perfect, You were the inspiration for me to do it at all. As I was stitching all the pieces together there were times I thought would it ever end? I thought of when you were making your red bag and kept going. So please keep up the good work! Also... Maybe it might help other leather workers... I use latex finger protectors only on my thumbs when stitching, you have almost a viselike grip on the needles and still feel everything at the same time and also takes care of the occasional bloody finger as well.
  18. 665 the winner? Will the thread match the edge paint or a contrasting colour?
  19. It will be great to see all the stages. I think a lot of leather workers will be interested.Thanks.
  20. With the quality of workmanship and the accuracy he has to cut leather including his exotic leathers and also how busy he seems to be, I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t use a hydraulic clicker press.
  21. Nice work. I must have a go at that also. I notice you beveled the small knife on the left side and the skiving knife on the right side... I bought a cutting knife with it sharpened on the left side and while it was very well made it tends to cut away from me when I’m trying to stay on a line. Have you noticed anything like that with yours?
  22. Looking forward to seen the different stages of this project again. Looking good already.
  23. When stitching thicker leather you could use this option.
  24. He is cutting around a template of some description or using a clicker die. I find Pinterest and Instagram another great source of information and inspiration for leather work. (Other than Leatherworker.net)
