  1. Good to know. I live near Tullamore, Co. Offaly. I lived in NY for 14 years.
  2. This is wrong. I ordered a sample yesterday morning and had the same problem, I contacted them and got a reply saying they had fixed the problem. I re-ordered a few minutes ago and the order went through with free shipping in Europe. I payed with PayPal because their site said it wasn’t secure?
  3. @immiketoo is right. Your problem is the applicator.
  4. From what I know... the draw back I’d that you can get dye stains when it gets wet, you can’t tool any designs on it and it’s more expensive than veg tanned leather. The only pro’s I think are it’s a softer leather than veg tanned while it’s still strong and doesn’t stretch. It’s probably why it’s used for horse tack and dog collars? Dye stain wouldn’t matter?
  5. Vinegaroon. I can’t remember who suggested this on LW but I tried it and it produced a grey dye. I purchased steel wool that painters use for sanding paint and a bottle of vinegar. Put a small wad of steel wool into a jam jar and fill it up with the vinegar. Wait for 12 to 24 hours and that’s it. when I dipped a piece of 4mm veg tanned leather to test it turned a light shade of grey and each time I dipped it in again it turned a shade darker until it turned black. I slowly dipped dyed a leather belt and it turned a charcoal grey and when I applied neatsfoot oil it turned very dark grey almost black. Don’t forget though... if you use this vinegaroon you should neutralize the leather with baking soda. hope this helps.
  6. @immiketoo Excellent video. I don’t do any tooling of leather yet but it’s a joy to watch your video. Thanks. i did buy some leather tools from a retired leather worker and among the tools were some swivel knifes and a lot of blades, some with the plastic protection still on the tips. When I’m home later I’d like to post a picture of them and maybe you could tell me what I have?
  7. @RockyAussie Brilliant ideas! Im always damaging stuff while trying to fix it. Why not damage cheap tools to save the good stuff!
  8. Wait... why would you change the hardware? He asked for it the way you did it? If he wants new hardware ask him to pay for new collars? Sometimes you get no thanks for being nice. If you damage the collars while changing the hardware will he still pay you?
  9. Very nice stitching! I’ve always thought that it doesn’t matter what size thread you use if you can sew it really well. Your watch band looks really good for it. But if your stitching isn’t so good you’d be better off with a thinner thread so as not to highlight it.
  10. Hi, Nice belt. what ever size you punched the slot for the belt buckle should be the size for the holes too. I think it’s 4mm?
  11. I’m sure Terry’s tools are the finest and I can see why anyone in the states would use him but for the rest of us out side of USA who don’t want to pay big shipping costs it may be easier to buy from Japan or China and still be happy with the quality of their tools.
  12. I’m not experienced enough with the round knife to answer that question for you all I can tell you is it is very sharp out of the box. It is a lot smaller than standard round knifes and the knife you’re looking at looks great, I know a lady saddle maker who only uses a knife like that one. The language barrier with Kevin is a little difficult and it takes him a while to make the tools and then 3 weeks shipping unless he has it in stock. He does keep you posted and when I had bought some tools from him he trusted me to pay him when he had the tools ready to send. I’m happy to recommend him.
  13. I have his 1mm and 2.5mm and they are the only ones I use now. Very sharp and hold their edge. i also bought his small round knife and love it. I also bought his small curved (clicker ?) knife but it’s sharpened on the left side only and seems to cut away from me when I’m using it. I think it should have been sharpened on the other side for a right hand person. Great quality in his tools though.
  14. Lol, you’re right... that’s the way I should have presented them but you’re also right about us being fickle. I would prefer praise if any to be spontaneous and not forced even if it meant no sale.
  15. I honestly didn’t try too hard with this project and because I really do like it I think I will re-do it again and be even happier with it. It was very easy to do too, I wrapped masking tape a few times around the handle and cut the seam on the knife, then I peeled the tape off and used it for my template.
  16. Totally agree with @bikermutt07 and @Rockoboy I have this knife for ages and thought it would be good for leatherwork but it never felt comfortable in my hand. I tried this stitching for the first time the other night and now it’s soo comfortable now i think I will be using it a lot more. I know it’s not the best stitching but I am really happy with it.
  17. Thanks. I will try it but it does sound like a harsh way to remove staining... straight or diluted?
  18. Really nice work! I like the lining. Why dont you use pigskin lining? It’s very thin. Is there much demand for this type of bag these days? I thought satchels were more the trend now?
  19. I have lots of leather hides that have mildew on them. I bought them from a old closed shoe factory. The shiny finished hide are easy enough to get the mildew off but the suede or nubuck are very difficult. If you have a recipe for removing mildew I’d love to hear it too?
  20. Ive bought a used 20 tonne hydraulic clicker because it was going cheap but haven’t set it up yet. I have moved it around with my two tonne manual pallet truck. You would want to make sure the wooden floor was sound before wheeling over it.
