If you are punching holes and your stitch is uneven on the back side it is due to one or both of the following 1] punch is not held at a right angle to the leather when struck. 2] your stitching technique needs work. when you stitch, you have to stitch each stitch the same way. every time

So. here is a bit of veg tan, dipped in my coffee mug , burnished using my thumb and new finish applied, placed next to an unfinished piece of veg tan Does any one else have non conventional ways to finish your leather.? do you have shoe polish? get some KIWI brand. I have never used any other so I can not say if this works on anything else. lite the polish on fire, inside the tin. after a few seconds set the lid on the fire and it will put it out using cotton balls, dip into the wax and apply over the area, you are filling in the crack/scratch with wax then buff the hell out of it NOTE, This is fire, so dont be stupid, get a fire extinguisher, call the fire department to be on standby, inform the EMT and the vet, write out a last will wear boots and a hard hat. Very nice Brooks I use a cheap 9 dollar Dremel from HF, I use a felt polishing tip, that is completely wore out and has turned hard from the [stain] abuse. It is PERFECT and a hand wood burnisher from amazon, I adapted to fit a drillpress

1 1/4'' sch 40 black steel pipe is 1.660 OD [outside dimension] 1 5/8'' is 1.625 so. would a 1 1/4'' sch 40 blk steel nipple with a cap work as your 1 5/8'' round punch drive? the difference is .035 that is like a 1 /32 over
