  1. Great way to repurpose some leather. It is amazing how resilient leather can be. Keep us posted.
  2. I tried using edge paint. Even bought one of the manual rotary tools to apply it. I may have done 3 project with it, and like @Dwight, never got feedback from a customer that said they missed it when I didn't use it. I still have a couple bottles sitting on the back of the shelf, but typically just dye the edge, then slick it.
  3. Nice work, Indeed. Welcome from SW Missouri.
  4. SOO sorry I missed your earlier post. Praying for continued healing for your daughter. Glad they were able to get everything taken care of. Now the long process of healing. Praying over her for comfort and patience.
  5. Very sharp! Hat making isn't even on my radar. If I did make one, it would be identical to the one you did. Nice work!
  6. Welcome to the forum from SW Missouri. Look forward to seeing some of your FL inspired leatherwork.
  7. Nice job! I have a list of items I want to make for myself. Just keep getting buried in honey-do's, mowing, and other client's projects. I would like to make myself another rifle sling, a shotgun sling, and a Bible cover. Maybe one of these days.
  8. Best bear spray on the market. And you typically get 6 sprays before reloading. Nice looking holster there, @chuck123wapati
  9. Or if you have a GREAT way to exhaust the fumes, you could laser engrave it.
  10. I think that is a good rule of thumb, but it also depends on the size of the project and the design or additional carving as well. Also depends on how it is dyed too.
  11. just measure your current punch with calipers to get the dimensions. Or ask your die maker if they have made anything similar. They may already have something they have created for someone else.
  12. Pretty slick. I am always leery of cutting chrome tan on the laser. Fumes are really bad.
  13. Good looking holsters! Very sharp!
  14. Sorry about that @Northmount 3 pc. template $36.95 4pc. template (combo) $49.95 Ships to US locations flat rate shipping $7.95 Here is a link to purchase: https://pastorbobleather.com/product/rifle-sling-template-acrylic/
  15. Created locally in SW Missouri. Machine crafted using laser engraver. Nice acrylic template for making rifle slings out of leather. No more paper patterns. The template includes three 1/8″ thick acrylic pieces to be used to create either a traditional or thumb hole style rifle sling. The two larger pieces snap together like a puzzle and create the body of the sling. The smaller piece (3 of 3) makes the small loop that attaches to the top of the sling. In addition, should you have a number of other templates, a small pattern of each of the 3 pieces has been etched into the main piece of the template. This way you can be sure which pieces go with this template. There are 3 options available: Traditional style rifle sling (include 3 piece template) Thumb Hole style rifle sling (includes 3 piece template) Combo pack. Includes both styles of rifle sling (includes 4 piece template) Simple instructions are included and are very easy to follow along. If for any reason you have an issue, you are welcome to call the number below to ask any questions. These templates can be used to create simple, plain leather rifle slings or add as much tooling / carving as you desire. Materials you will need to make a rifle sling using this pattern are: 5-12oz leather, optional are glue, thread, stamping tools, swivel knife, dye. To assist in protecting the template pieces during shipment, a protective adhesive paper will be attached to the pieces. Simply remove from both sides to expose the transparent green acrylic. Easy to follow, printed instructions are included as well. Made using acrylic. An easy way to become a rifle sling maker. Contents of shipped package: 3 or 4 pc. acrylic template Instructions
  16. Pretty cool. Do you still have access to the patterns and are you willing to share?
  17. That's a great way to get them out of the way. I looked at PVC pipe, concrete forms, etc. They were stupid expensive. I have been looking for an alternative for quite some time. Glad I waited...the cardboard tubes were free.
  18. Thanks! I started with a borrowed GlowForge (CO2 laser). When I saved up enough to get my own, I looked at all the options for lasers and decided to stick with the CO2. About a year later, i added a Fiber/Diode 20W laser to the mix. Now i can virtually engrave on most surfaces between the 2. I really like engraving on metal / glass / leather / and acrylic. Here is a journal cover I engraved. The theme is travel (those white oval stickers with black letters) of Jesus as captured in the Gospels.
  19. Thanks! I just have dark cloth on the one side. Good idea to have it on both.
  20. Where I work my day job, we have some cardboard tubes that are about 7" in diameter and 24-26" in length. I brought some home to help organize my leather a bit. I just duct taped 2 together end to end. I drilled an oversized hole in the top of each tube on the bottom layer and secured them with screws to the bottom deck.
  21. Recently had a client ask for a cross draw holster. Instead of just making it, I also created a template for future use. Anyhoo, if anyone may be interested, here is a link to it. https://pastorbobleather.com/product/cross-draw-j-frame-revolver-2-barrel-holster-template-acrylic/
