  1. Ok after having to undo 2 hours of hand stitching because of a up!! UGG its finally finished! Decided to make another smartphone case but went with a bit of tooling this time, wanted to do another project with a wood grain look to it so here it is. Since we are limited on size of files we can upload and I am tired will just set the link up to the imgur photos I already have set up http://imgur.com/a/2fY0Q
  2. Was a little bored so figured I would make myself another case for my phone. This is just a prototype that I had in my head figured I would give it a go. Only screwed up just a hair when it comes to the buckle and strap I wanted the strap to go all the way around the case even on the bottom well I kind of screwed up the measurement just a hair after I stitched it to the back. Ah well was an easy fix just cut the part with the buckle off and stitched to the front like I had originally planed just no strap on the bottom is all. I have my phone in a protecitive case already as I am a bit of a cluts and this thing is drop proof from up to 10ms but I hate having it ride in my pocket so this case has a slot for a belt loop. Phone sits nice and snug in the case. All hand stitched and all rounded edges did not want a typical square container kind of bag.
  3. Here are pictures of a Growler case I did a few months ago. Hoping my brother will take it out in public and show it off at Mad Anthony Brewery in Fort Wayne. Check out my website, www.leatherbyjon.net
  4. Been searching for years and I finally found inlay Iphone cases at Tandy. What I have seen previously is taking a generic Ebay phone case and cutting leather to glue on top. the result of this however is a short-lasting case. Does anyone know of a supplier of the actual case for Iphones besides Tandy? Here is a link to what I've been looking for: http://www.tandyleather.com/en/product/iphone-6-inlay-case-kit-2 I would really like to keep my customer price around 20-30 and that is impossible with these kits Tandy has of course! Thanks for your time Derek KD Custom Leather Granbury, TX
  5. Hello. it's my today's work. Happy new year!
  6. Hi, this is my first post and my first attempt at a laptop sleeve! I made this laptop sleeve, one side floral, one side basket weave with a brand. I realize the floral is too small for the side it is on, but I didn't want to go too far off pattern free hand (I am not nearly that experienced). After doing this I realize I need to get a better swivel knife and a better basket weave stamp. My roomie upstairs was not happy with my banging away on all those stamps! -Leather was 7-8 oz euro side from tandy. -Saddle tan gel antique -Resist with Eco Flo Top Finish Gloss -Double sided rivets I appreciate any advice you all might have! Or tips and tricks for next time. Thanks for looking. Lane (AB, Canada)
  7. Here are a few things I have created recently. There is a Hair on Laptop/messengers bag, with zippered front panel that allows access to internal pockets mounted to the front inner wall, and storage for briefs and papers built into the zippered front panel, the lid also has a hidden panel with glove snaps for additional storage of briefs and papers, there is an internal pocket for a laptop (17" laptops fit awesome in this) and a rear storage pocket for books, or notebooks, with a final pocket on the rear wall to allow additional papers or briefs to be stored. LOTS AND LOTS of room in this bag. The hair on cow hide is in purple and black, and the sides are made of laminated pieces of veg tanned that have been dyed to match the colors of the hair on hide. I laced the sides with premium calfskin lace and did it in an Australian double loop stitch. The pencil bag is made out of the selvage of the hair on hide, and is a wide mouth design. The clutch is likewise made out of the selvage from the same hide and pairs very nicely.
  8. This is a carry on bag that i just finished. it is my first work of any significance. My orignal plan was to add a lot more tooling to the body and lid but i soon realized that my skill level is just not up to it at this point. so i added the celtic cross on the ends and left it at that. I used 7-8oz leather so it will hold it's shape in everything short of a plane crash. Anyway, i'm happy with how it turned out and welcome feedback. thanks
  9. Looking for an accurate pattern to make this if anyone has this pattern, please... http://www.victoryge...rimaryCatID=58 Here is a reproduction of the same case... http://onlinemilitar...p?id=3580&bc=no Thanks for any leads...
  10. I've been making these cases for sunglasses. Thought I'd share.
  11. This case holds 2 harmonicas. Dyed dark brown with hand tooling wolf design. Stamped paw prints inside case.
  12. Hey guys anyone have any patterns for a camera sling like the one in my photo or know where I can locate one? Any help would be grateful!
  13. Custom order requested by a shaving enthusiast who found our page on Etsy. Pretty pleased with how it turned out, wishing I traveled/shaved more so I'd have an excuse to make one for myself. Let me know what you think!
  14. Ola folks! Last week I was at my brother's, who spends half his life above a drawing pad, and he asked me if I could make a sort of case to store a A3 drawing pad, pencils, sharpener/eraser, combined with a flap that doubles as a cover and a holder for the sheet that he's working on. So we did some brainstorming and came up with the design as shown in the pictures. 1) The walls are basically layers of leather cut out in strips of 1 cm (25/64 inch) build up till about 1,6 cm (5/8 inch). 2) Underneath that comes a sheet of leather that covers the whole thing, but doesn't fold over on the front over the whole length. It only closes the main compartment for the drawing pad. 3) On top comes another sheet, that gets glued/stitched to the walls of the main compartment, and folds over and closes the compartments for pencils etc. I hope it's a bit clear what I mean from the description and the drawings, if not, please ask! Now for the input requested: 1) Does this look viable construction-wise? I warned him that it's going to be a bit bulky/heavy, but as he's like a 6ft 6 drawing giant, he said that's not an issue 2) The stitching bothers me. I'm planning on gluing the walls together first and then attach the top and bottom. But how on earth will I be able to stitch through 2 cm of leather? Pre-drill holes in the walls first, glue top an bottom and pierce those with an awl? 3) Anyone got an idea on how to attach press studs to the outside of the walls? It's to get the smaller compartment to close. After that is complete, I need to attach a big flap, consisting of 2 sheets of leather with some thin hardboard (or something similar) in between, that he can fold close so it's resting on top of the case (just as big as the major compartment, so the rest stays accessible), with his drawing on the inside, or open so he can draw on the flat backside. I'm thinking of maybe placing magnets on the edge of that flap and in between the walls and the top leather sheet and bottom sheet, so it's easily open-able and close-able in either position. If it's easier I can draw that up aswell and include it in a next post. So yeah, there you have it, big (crazy) plan, for which I would really appreciate some input from the way more knowledgeable people around here! Cheers, Aäron
  15. I had a friend contact me and was wondering if I could make her husband a holster for a 1911 and how much. I told her I will get back with her after I do some research when we are done with the vet reunion this weekend. What I was wanting is some opinions as I have never done this sort of project. For one, is it a big pain in the a$$ to make? I love challenges but don't know if this is a challenge or a headache. Also, if I can get some advice on making one if I do it. She is supposed to send me some pics of the gun and what she wants on it. I am supposed to get with our commander Friday at the reunion to check measurements on the 1911 he has.
  16. Hey guys! I had some not so great scrap leather hanging around that wasn't quit good enough to use for something I'd sell, so I thought I'd prototype something new. It's a case for an iPad mini. It has one main compartment with a belt with a buckle that goes around the whole case. On the back, a notebook or papers could be stored under the strap. For the hardware, I just used an a buckle from an old belt my wife doesn't use anymore. Anyway, have a look and let me know what you think. -Nick
  17. Since last week, I have to make a leather case.
  18. Well decided to try to make something with guessets thought a cell phone holder would be nice well this thing instead of holding just one cell phone well lets say I could fit at least 6 Samsung S5's very easily in this case lol...sides are a bit wider then needed. But it was an interesting expericement the wife still wants to find something "diffrent' to use as a closure so right now there is nothing to keep the lid closed, but it does sit nicely on its own. Also tried two different styles of hole punches for the lace so the wife could see the diffrences between them. Did use two different kinds of thread as I wanted the bottom to hold tighter and didn't think lace was a good idea for that.
  19. I am going on vacation and needed a case to keep my camera in. This is what I came up with. I somehow got the molded part sewed on a little crooked but from most angles you can't notice.
  20. Hi, Just showing off my musical instrument (Greek lyra) case. Specs: - Shell material : Composites technology . Two layers of epoxy resin impregnated glass cloth with intermediate core / sandwich of expanded closed cell polyesterene. -Covered with Italian water resistant 1 mm leather. - The interior is lined with foam , in combination with synthetic wool felt - 3 Storage compartments with humidity absorbing crystals drawer made from 2mm aviation plywood /epoxy varnish finish. -Safety belt - binding instrument. The whole case works like a helmet . -Stainless steel hexagon bolts with locking nuts on all fittings. -Leather shoulder straps, padded. Well.... ok, this is not an entirely leather product.. there are also many imperfections on this case. This kind of cases are time and money consuming. The whole process takes me many days to complete... Greetings from Greece !
  21. This is the second project that I have ever done. I think the hand stitching is a bit better than the first project I started. Still had a little trouble going around the corners. Not sure if I would start from scratch with veg tan leather again, but I like the feel of it. I enjoy stitches, to me they are art when they are done right, so I like them to show really well, which is why I chose the heavy white thread on a dark background. I think most would prefer a black thread here, let me know. The color is one I came up with myself, let me know if you like it. Constructive criticism is always welcome, as I am trying to do this art well! YinTx
  22. So this is my first flip case for a Sony Xperia Z1 Compact (what a long name -.-), It closes with two magnets, got some room for three cards and some bills and is decorated with a heating iron. As the customer likes Japan a lot, the design was set quite fast. Oh well, and besides my first flip-case with my first burned decoration it´s the first time I used some kind of a stiffener (some plastic boards with like 0,3mm) and I sort of like it... but i don´t know, whether it´s similar to the stiffener i.e. Tandy sells. It´s just crappy if you gotta stitch through it or if you have to punch some holes (like for the camera) through it as you won´t get that sort of a nice and clean edge on it. So I hope you like it and if you got some critiques or ideas, I´d be very interested to hear them
  23. Ok first this is actually the second case that I have made this is made for a Samsung Galxay S5 that already is in a case (water proof and supposably able to take a 10 meter fall) but there are two reasons I made this, first was to see if I could, second I keep everything in my front pocket, that includes wallet and now this phone, if I had to answer the phone I had to be careful about pulling it out of my pocket as I have pulled my wallet out as well so thought I would make this case so it clips to my belt. The first case I royally screwed up on so that went into the trash, did learn a lot from that so its not a total waste. This is the only third time that I have ever done a saddle stich, went with the saddle stich as I thought this was the strongest stitch. So Three questions, First and most important question is that as this will be on my belt it will be going out side so which is better to use as a water resist either Fiebing's Aussie Leather conditioner or Tandy's Super shien? ( Have both of these)? I am not worried about the color going darker as its black with brown edging (which is really had to see the diffrents must choose a better edge color lol). Second Question Is the saddle stich a strong enough stitch or is there a better one for something like this? Third Question what do you all think about it and where might I improve on it?
