I use Fiebings Aussie, several coats and dry in between...works good.

I staple all my original plastic seat pans...never had a problem....get urself a good upholstery gun and adjust air to where staples wont go to deep and cut your 3-4oz leather....if leather is damp and even less air so it wont be cut by these staples!! If you have a custom made seat pan, then rivets are the way to go....of course all metal pans needs to be riveted or laced as mentioned..if seat pan is rather flat, then you can wrap it bottom and top and then sew arround it...looks cool and lasts for a long time too...always glue your top to the seatpan or foam! Greetings. Jimbob

The eagle is cool, the holster is nice, but the darn edges are over the top...wow, very nice and super clean!!! I am starting to get the hang of it now too....using Fiebings Glitzerin soap and finishing with Parafin wax....good looking edges just make the hole project look so more professional!!! Well done,...... Jimbob

Need Help! I'm New And Have A Lot Of Problems!
Jimbob replied to aaron61032's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
First of all, I think your machine is not made for what you are trying to do....13mmm is about an half inch or so and this is knee lift....your actuall sewing lift is near 1/4 inch.....maybe good for light upholstery or heavy garment. You need a larger machine, like an Adler, Cobra or Cowboy,,,,your machine needs to do at least 138 or 207 on top (thread size...) and do 92 or 138 on bottom for 2 layers of 5/6 latigo!! Do some research on this forum, trade your machine back in or sell it, or keep it for very light leather....then call Bob Kovar, or Steve or other Sewing machine sellers here on this forum....they will guide you in the right dirrection!! And try to learn as much as you can about leather sewing machines...!! Guess how I know all this....haha...been there done that. Greetings Jimbob -

I've Never Machine Sewn In My Life .... Tippman Boss?
Jimbob replied to RoosterShooter's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
I think for this kind of money I would NOT buy a Tippman, for hand operated or needing a loud compressor near....not my thing....and lots of complains from people own the newer Aluminium housing ones.....as been said, look for a used clone, or add a few bucks to purchase a new clone.....or find a good Adler 105 class...there are options, I would rather buy "real' sewingmachine....just my two cents!! Jimbob -

Double Layer Holster Ques
Jimbob replied to Boriqua's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
have BOTH pieces damp, not wet....then glue them together just laying flat...press well...then pick up and form the spine so you have no wrinkles!!! Works any time!!! -
Done some big carvings on 5-6oz W&C leather.....gonna be car seat panels....skirts will be 2-3 oz milled tooling leather. I have all the leather conditioned with Aussie cream, now I am thinking of putting on a watter repellent finish on......can I put a finish on top of this Fiebings Aussie saddle conditioner.....and what finish would be flexible enough to not wrinkel. peel or do something terrbile funny on car seats, its a show car but seats are still seats....flexing, rubbing and such included. Thanks up front for lots of ideas and input!!! James

OK, my BK swifel knife and 2 blades, small and large in thin came in after several e-mails and calls....seemed to be sharp ready to go.....stroped them on leather a bit and went to work on Wicked and Craig leather...5-6 oz....now I am surly dissapointed....boy, them things drag....I cant hardly make a narrow curved cut....me not being an expert on carving, but done my share over the years.....wonder what I am doing wrong....I expected wonders from this new knife....sharpeded on 400 grid, polished than stroped again....for a few seconds it seems to be razor sharp then it suddenly and unusuall drag's and having real hard time to do round curves....well, now what to do,,,!?? Anybody has any ideas or suggestions...? Thaks for all input James

You will not be able to make a serious holster on a flat bed machine and shurly not on a Singer 111, what you need is a more serious cylinder machine...unfortunatly it will cost you min. 1000 bucks and up used....new ones run 1500 to 5000....so here is NO cheap in this matter...but sometimes you can find one on Craigs list, epost and classifieds for less....I have an Adler 105 and it suits me well....they are not cheap any more either....you will be in a heap of trouble buying some weak or unusable machine....better save more bucks and say lesser bad words later....just my 2 cents. James
