  1. I like black and white pictures. But i think you would do much better having color pictures. Personally for me i want to see what color or close to the real color espically if i was putting down a few thousand dollars for somebody to build me a custom saddle. Just my thoughts and they aint worth much. Nice work.
  2. Here's a picture of mine. Theirs not to much to them. I put mine in a vice when i use it. Weaver Leather has them. Or you can make one.
  3. I have two stamps like that and have used for about 10 years. Never had a problem with either one. Their for two different names i make things under one is used all the time and the other once in awhile. I don't take the best care of mine either, use it and pitch it back in the drawer. Neither one has never had any damage. I'm not sure about different makers being better than the other. Mine came from Hide Crafters. I'm not sure who did the work for them. Or i'm guessing they had some one else make them.
  4. You might try JB Weld. I have used it a couple times and it worked pretty good. That sucks that the post office is giving you the run around. Their just like a regular insurance company happy to take you money but dang slow about paying out it seems.
  5. Macinistchest i went to your site, why do you have sign in with a password ? I wanted to look around but i didn't want to go through the hassle of having another password to remember. Andy i just went to your esty site and i didn't see anything for sale. What do i need to click to see your stuff ?
  6. If my edges need to be sanded i use a table belt sander 4x36 with 40 or 50 grit paper. The finer grits clog up to quick. Then wet the edge with a sponge then use a piece of deer antler to rub pretty hard with. Then finish up with a piece of file folder or a piece of cracker box or something like using the nonprinted side and it works fine and makes a glossy smooth edge. If you use a table mounted belt sander it needs to be fllpped to where the belt turns to you. That makes live alot easier.
  7. to thread it you have to push or pull the thread down through a hole in top to get to the needle. It's close to the shiny thread holder at the front of the machine. If you get it and don't like it you can sell it to shoe repair shop and probely make some money.
  8. Well we have had a scare and a good laugh :-). I'm glad it's not the thing in the picture. That looks like it would be a pain to make. You could use velcro to put on with. Sew the velcro to the leather then wrap and stick. But Kate's ideal might be the best. Good luck on your project.
  9. Funnygirl your case looks good. Looks like you still need to sew it ? Never have heard of playing bones, learn something new everday. Is the corset like one these in the picture ? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:EuphoniumAndTuba_wb.jpg
  10. Craig, search makers marks and you'll find some on the 3rd and 4th pages and maybe more a little futher back. I didn't look any father.
  11. Glad to hear that your up and running again. Their good machines. I have a Pro 2000 that i have been using for about 15 years and never had a problem that wasn't a simple screw up on my end. I'll have to take that back a tension spring once and it took about 10 minutes to fix with a new spring.
  12. i'm not a big saddle maker / builder heck i aint much of nothing.. But get Stholmans saddle book volume one and it will tell ya what ya need to know
  13. You can get scapels at most farm supply stores to. One other you can try is stroping your blade and if nothing else try to sharpen the dull blades. Your not going to hurt anything if their all ready dull.
  14. Check and make sure your needle is in right. The groove on the needle should be on the left side setting at the machine.Plus do you have the right size needle ? You need a 200 size needle for 277 thread.
  15. I don't know a thing about Champions. But i did this on a American straight needle i had when it did what your talking about. Put a piece of scrap leather under the foot open the door where you see things if it has one. Then turn the machine by hand and watch what happens. Is their a hook that comes out and catches the thread ? If it does and misses try bringing the hook out or move it back till it does. Or maybe tilt it up or down. Pictures would help to. If none of that works maybe somebody smarter than me can help.
  16. I would get the cylinder arm machine. In my shop i have cylinder arm, flat bed and post machines and the cylinder arm machine is the handiest to use for everthing. You can get or make a flat bed attachment for one if you want. My machine is a Juki Pro 2000. Never have used a Adler or seen one but i hear good things about them. One more thing i would the longest arm they have. Mine is 16 inches long and the extra room comes in real handy. John
  17. Nice job on both of them !!!
  18. Sharpen your punch just like they show when they do the round end punch. It's the same thing with a different end.
  19. Paint color one point / end and keep that end towards you when you stamp. That way if it is out square at least all of them are headed in the right direction and will be the same.
  20. Try yard sales in your town.
  21. Nice job !! I reuse everthing i can to. I have some cabinets that have been took apart two or three times and rebuilt into different size cabinets.
  22. The ones i have made i used chap leather. As far as a pattern their about 5 or 6 iches long and about 4 inches tall then add your flap. Or you measure a pouch of chewing tobacco their about the same size.
  23. Great job Bobocat !!! That car is one of a kind now now !!
  24. I thread the needle then stick the needle through the thread two times and pull tight.
