  1. You can change the fenders as long as the new sturpp leathers are the same size or narrower. You may need to spay some saddle soap up under the seat jockey and between the skirt and sturipp leather to get them pulled out. Sometime they are real hard to get out if the haven't been moved in a while.
  2. Wonder if a long socket wouldn't do the same thing. Bet it's alot cheaper to.
  3. Just so i understand you have to buy a license to watch TV and the a color license is more than a black and white license. Do you have buy the license if you use a antenna, satalite or cable ? I learn something new everday.
  4. Pouch to put matches or a fire steel ( not sure what their called ) . Mirror or a CD pouch to signal with if you get lost. Hatchet sheath, canteen ( homemade one maybe ) of some sort. Strings and pieces of leather to make or repair a sling from.
  5. DJ, your husband did a fine job on the rounder !! I'm sure you will put it to good use. John
  6. I remembered to take a couple of pictures of the lifters i made. I'm not sure what angle their on, i did trial and error till i found one that worked good.
  7. I just checked and madriver.com is taken incase you wanted a web site using that name. You check domain names here www.register.com .
  8. I made a couple of lifters out of scratch awls. Their not hard to make just cut the end of the awl off sand or grind to the angle you want hit it a lick on your stone buff it smooth and start lifting. They work great and are cheap.
  9. I found some at a local hardware store not the big box stores. A couple of years ago i asked about them at the lumber yard and was told that they didn't make em anymore. Now i don't know that's right or not. But they are harder to find around here.
  10. The card Kate is holding in the picture looks great. But belive me it looks even better in Person !! Thank you Kate ! John
  11. You could take a nail and turn it upside down and make round dents. Different size dents with different size nails. You could make longer dents like it was hit by a sword with a bent nail and just hit part of it. If you don't want to buy the other tools if you don't have them already. John
  12. Granite Tack or Leather . Tag line Built Tough as Granite. I would check on Mad River before i used that. I know their is or used to be a Mad River canoe company and they might give you problems about having a name close to theirs I'm guessing they have Mad River trademarked.
  13. Wouldn't it be cheaper to make a pattern then cut your own.
  14. Great job !! Nice pattern to, guess a person needs to open their eyes and look around and we'll find all kinds of ideals for designs. John
  15. Ray your rivets maybe to long for thickness your going through.
  16. You could turn the built up side down then take a piece of poster board folded to about the same thickness as the padded part ( make the folded piece wider ) so it sticks out and cut the extra off.
  17. I use thread lube quite a bit. Why didn't just call them they have a 800 number ?
  18. I have felt your pain. I had a tack shop one block off of main street in my town for 5 or 6 years. It was like i was in a different state as far as the town doing anything for myself the other business's on that street. I had a customer stop one of the police one time and ask where my shop was. The cop didn't even know i was there and most of them got their hair cut at the barber shop next door. I never joined the chamber of commerce after i seen what my parents went through when the owed a business in the same town. It was a waste of money. Ninety percent of my business came from out of town. Advertising in the local paper was a waste of money to (it comes out twice a week now, used to be once a week when we had two papers). At the time i had my shop in town the internet was just getting to where you could get on the internet locally. I did have good luck with advertising in a free Trader paper that went out to about 20 counties. A regular add worked better for me that a block add and was alot cheaper. You might want to try that if you have one in your area. Like they say word of mouth is your best advertising, but you have to be able to get customers in your store so they can tell other folks.
  19. Hi Jade, i use a maker stamp and i think i got them from Hide Crafters around 8 or 10 years ago. I did a quick search useing (makers marks) and found this one right off the bat, http://www.lasergiftcreations.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=20 . I remember seeing a longer thread that has several stamp makers on it. Mine are made from kind of plastic or nylon i guess. Anyway i use them quite a bit and have for several years and never had a problem with them. John
  20. I broke a tension spring and o ring on the thread winder inside the machine wore out. Undo 3 or 4 screws and the winder comes out slip the o ring on and it goes right back in. They took about 5 minutes a piece to fix. That's all i have had to do in 15 years.
  21. The Pro 2000 is still made. It has a longer arm and sews a little bit thicker material. Sometimes i twill mark the leather if it is damp but not bad. Every machine i have ever had or used maked the leather a little be it a foot or a roller presser foot. Good think is their are no feed dogs to mark it on the bottom. I don't think you find anybody's that doesn't mark it some. Their are a couple more people on here that have Pro 2000's maybe they will tell you what they think about it. I got mine from Mast Harness but Weaver Leather bought them out a few years ago. Ferdco is the company that sells them and they have dealers in other parts of the US. www.ferdco.com is their website. Their super nice folks !!
  22. I don't have either of those machines. But i do have a pro 2000 Juki. I've had about 15 years and i love it. Best money i ever spent.
  23. Very nice work !! Looks like she has been tooling and carving for years.
  24. Much better with the smaller pictures. My suggestion would be lower your buckles it looks like they are set to high. From looking at the picture it looks like you will be setting on the top buckle. Not sure if that will bother you or not. And i would make the under layment under the yokes and sheilds smaller. Maybe stick out 1/2 inch instead of what looks like a inch. That way the shield under layment wouldn't run into the top piece and have to be trimed to fit. Great job though for a first pair of chaps. John
